I worked for a man, a doctor in fact, who was a first class a**hole and SOB. His was one of the most successful practices around. The man could NOT keep an employee very long. I replaced a girl who was there for about 4 months. I was there for 7 weeks. I left in May and the girl who replaced me was gone by the end of the summer. There were a number of people who came and went during my time there. I have run into probably a good dozen people over the years who worked there. All had the same opinion of the man. He treated his employees like crap. With the patients, he must have had a

Powder Springs Residents Want to Lose Hiram Zip Code
Mama Carol replied to AustinPlantation's topic in RECENT TOPICS
With my sincerest apologies to November Rain, I have to agree with you on this. I am still waiting on concert tickets I purchased in 1995. Ticketmaster said they were mailed, verified my address and I have yet to receive them. Our mail often ended up one or even two houses away. Thank goodness all the neighbors knew each other and got the mail to the right person. Once, a huge check from one of our customers ended up next door. After that, we got a PO box which honestly didn't help matters a bit. We used to get mail for another address, not even our street, so often that we be -
Powder Springs Residents Want to Lose Hiram Zip Code
Mama Carol replied to AustinPlantation's topic in RECENT TOPICS
For 34 years I lived in the same house off Lewis Road that runs between Hiram Lithia Springs Road and Oglesby Road. I lived as close to the city limits of Austell as to the city limits of Powder Springs. I had a 943 telephone number. My power came from Douglas EMC (later Greystone). The street BEHIND me, in my subdivision, has Georgia Power. The street that virtually connects to my street, in Westridge Subdivision, most of the residents had 944 or 948 (Austell) phone numbers and Georgia Power. We actually found out that we have Greystone and the street behind us (literally behi -
Keep both documents short. My resume is BARELY two pages now. My cover letter is barely one. I did not list all my skills or positions but instead target the resume to the job. Obviously, if I'm applying for an office job, I highlight my office skills including my typing speed, software I use, etc. I leave off the sales clerk and the movie theater ticket sales. I put month and year but not the date. There are a lot of resume templates out there that you might use. I can't remember where I found mine but I believe it was on Google Docs. The resume and the cover letter are bot

I would give my notice and just tell them that I found a position that was... closer, paid more, had better hours, whatever. I'd leave it at that. If they have a high turnover rate, this won't take them by surprise. And no point in telling them why you're really leaving. I'm actually quitting a job tomorrow and tomorrow is supposed to be my first day, so your question was timely for me, too. But like everyone said, don't burn bridges. In this day and age, most employers know that they can be sued if they give you a poor reference, so I wouldn't worry too much about that in the

I had a 2000 Altima. It was smaller than the Optima I have now. You can really and truly get five people in my Kia. You could barely get two adults and two kids in carseats in my Nissan. I think the current owner gets four teenagers in it plus himself. I saw a Prius down the street this afternoon. It had a Paulding county tag. What's so unusual about that? I'm in Florida, MILES from the beach. But you're right, they do look roomier than the older Prius' did.

My Kia got over 35 mph on this last trip down to Florida. Darn sight bigger than a Prius and I had it pretty well loaded down with stuff. I know Mercedes cost an arm and a leg (and a few other body parts) to service. My daughter and SIL had one and when they needed work done on it, after pricing the work, they just sold the car. Someone a couple of streets over from us has what looks like one of those!! Cool cars.

Three employees who actually do something. Nine who push paper and crunch numbers. Sounds about right. The people who work for you obviously need to take off those rose colored glasses and stop drinking that laced kool aid because this is NOT what a normal economy looks like.

I hear you. Between the increase in my husband's Medicare and the increase in my health insurance, we saw a 40% + increase in our premium every month. Thankfully, Florida has a lower premium for my health insurance but it did little to decrease that 40% increase. I think we're down to about a 36% monthly increase now.

How is that possible that people are beginning to have mandatory coverage? It isn't yet mandatory! Believe me, employers aren't going to do it one minute sooner than they are forced to. I expect you need a new bunch of economists.

If by investors buying all the houses for sale and putting their contractors to work making repairs and then their staff of agents leasing them out is a surge in the housing market, it's true. I still don't see many mortgage brokers, builders, developers or trade contractors going gangbusters. There's still two or three times as many inactive real estate license holders as there are active license holders. Still too many builders or contractors who are working as teachers, deputies or just barely making enough to pay for groceries. I wish the housing market would pick up. It's better

But how many jobs were lost? Employment numbers on the third of the month are all smoke and mirrors anyway.

Hey, if your wife said you were wrong, you were wrong. 'Nuf said. But no, you're not wrong to long for the good old days.

You can handle bill collectors when you really do owe the money. You can simply ask them to stop calling you or ask them to not call you at work, and they HAVE to abide by your wishes. But you have the opposite problem--you don't owe the money and they aren't really bill collectors. The best bet would be the next time he calls to tell him in no uncertain terms that you have spoken to the Paulding County Sheriff's department (or City of Dallas Police, City of Hiram police or whatever jurisdiction you're in) and have given them all of the contact information you have on them. Then get C

Guess who isn't working in her yard any more this year
Mama Carol replied to lucky64's topic in RECENT TOPICS
We saw a dead snake somewhere up around Brewton, AL back in March. Thought it was a bit early. Even little copperheads can do a lot of damage. My dad was bit by one, not much bigger than a pencil, and he was very sick for about a week and then had problems with the bite for several weeks after that. -

Oh, they sure can be ornery. They can chase you, too. Thank goodness I was a fast runner when I was a kid. We have some timber rattlers in northwest Georgia. Don't know if they chase you or not. Didn't give that one that was across the road from us a chance. I can't remember what it was my husband killed out at Sweetwater Creek Park. I'm thinking it was a copperhead. -

I've always heard that a non-venomous snake can still bite. Like you, I'd die of a heart attack regardless. I remember being about 6 or 7 and me and my dad were down by the pond behind our house when we came across a water moccasin. I climbed up on his shoulders so fast I almost knocked him down! I have NEVER liked snakes. Never have, never will. If I see one here in our yard, and it's back to Georgia I go. -

HELL NO!! Only good snake is a dead snake. Don't care what kind they are. If they're alive, they're bad. -
Moving To A Milder Climate: Suggestions?

Depends on where on the Texas coast you're talking about. Closer to Louisiana, I've not been to the Galveston/Brownsville area though. That's supposed to be nice. -

Maybe it's because it doesn't come to mind when people think about a place to move to. -
Moving To A Milder Climate: Suggestions?

South Florida, yeah, really hot summers and really warm/hot all year especially the closer you get to Miami. We're in the panhandle and the highs and lows are really comparable to what they are there except the records for each are not as extreme. I think the last time it snowed here was about 4 years ago and then it was just a dusting. Before that, it had been years apparently. I've asked several people and none of them can remember. They CAN tell you about the hurricanes, though. 60 years without a direct hit and then two in one year and then two a year apart. -
