  1. Pardon the annoyance, but there are dozens...maybe even hundreds of children who have flooded homes and nothing to wear to school much less a way to get there. Then you have to account for the caved in roads and bridges, eroded roads, etc...school buses can't go over those roads with bus loads of children. Sorry for the inconvenience, the Board of Education is just doing what is safest for the children not to mention more convenient for those who weren't as lucky as you and I. Many of us have to work. However, many of us would rather the hassle of schools being closed than teachers,
  2. Isn't it, though? I'll have to post more snippets of what's going on locally and link them to p.com just to see if it works. Now it's like a science experiment.
  3. Just to clarify, I personally wasn't worried about whether or not I was getting paid. I didn't work, so what exactly would they be paying me for? My curiosity was completely surrounding the mandatory non-paid days we are required to take this year and whether or not we could use these as those particular days...then later on those days I could actually work and get paid.
  4. I agree with this one. I got little bit a *giant* set with a container for less than $20. We actually wound up with two sets - but I gave the second set to a friend a few weeks ago. She's almost five and still plays with them almost every day.
  5. Click on it! You got a Mayberry, which is sort of like a 'thank you' for something that you did. Anything between the parentheses that is a - is a good thing. If you're in the + that means you have bullets...three of those gets you a suspension. Nobody can see anybody else's bullets or mayberries, but if you click on yours you can see all of the bullets and mayberries you have received.
  6. I just got an email from the office - If we came in Monday and stayed until campus closed, we get paid for the whole day. If we came in and left early, we get paid for the time we were there. If we didn't come in at all, we can use vacation or unpaid time or use our furlough. For today, we get paid or can use one of our furloughs.
  7. MY question is this: The University System of Georgia has a mandatory 3 furlough days before December and another 3 before May. I wonder if they'll let this count towards the furlough days? I mean, we're not working and aren't getting paid anyway. That would make sense - or atleast if they make it an option. I know a few weeks ago I had to miss a Friday with the stupid flu and they asked me if I wanted to take a sick day or use a furlough day.
  8. Unless the AJC is right and they really will have the place open this weekend.
  9. Wayyyyy overdue. I haven't seen a blizzard since like 92 or 93. I can't even remember which year it was I was so young. I don't even remember it.
  10. That's what I was thinking...all of the stores with merchandise, the games with prizes, the restaurants with food...that's alot of stuff. I mean, just imagine the toilet paper supply for a place that large.
  11. I would imagine because there are roads closed, flooded, and washed away all over Paulding County...the buses can't get through. There are people out in rowboats....
  12. Seriously? That's insane. I guess they're prepared for things like this. Some of the buildings are flooded up to the roofs.
  13. My mom came home to New Hope from Chattanooga yesterday and didn't hit a single road block. She said she didn't see a thing until she got home and watched the news, then she saw the flooding.
  14. I don't remember Six Flags ever being underwater, but if it happened when I was a kid or before then chances are I won't remember it. I figured something had happened before...the park is right off of the river. I'm just worried about the employees there...that's hundreds of people. I know I had three relatives that worked there previously and used the money for Christmas and to get through the winter. They normally close at the end of October, and it's already the end of September...I can't imagine that they'll get everything cleaned up, repaired, and replaced by the end of their season.
  15. I should do it more often. It's pretty cool because I saw the different states and was like 'Where in the heck is Palo Alto, California?!'...then I kept reading. It shows up like this: Powell, Wyoming arrived from google.com on "Shais Creations: Flooding in Georgia" by searching for flooding in georgia pictures. 19:35:12 -- 17 hours 17 mins ago Powell, Wyoming left via paulding.com from "Shais Creations: Flooding in Georgia" 19:35:25 -- 17 hours 18 mins ago
  16. Six Flags is underwater. I wonder how long until these people get to go back to work. I'd be willing to bet they just shut it down for the season.
  17. Sunday, I did an update on my blog and promised another one later that evening..but I got caught up in the storms and blinking power and completely forgot. So, yesterday I updated it and started off with a paragraph or two about the flooding, and included a link to the thread we had going on here yesterday with all of the pictures. I just checked my feedjit (which tracks who visits, where they came from, how they got to my blog and what link they left through), and I had over forty people from out of state visit my blog yesterday after doing a google search about the flooding in Georgia. No
  18. Oh wow! I've been waiting for us to break the June 07 (I think it was 07?) record for.ever. So sad that it was this that did it.
  19. I just got an email, phone call, and text message all at the same time (on two different numbers and three different email accounts ) stating that campus will remain closed tomorrow and classes are canceled. Thought I'd let folks know.
  20. I'll let her know. Thanks. I know Barrett was reported as having standing water at 4 this morning, but I don't know how it looks now.
  21. 1) I doubt they have the money for a hotel, but I can try. 2) My step-dad is with her, I highly doubt he'll be willing to do that until he comes upon road blocks and realizes how bad it is. Of course, knowing my luck he'll find the ONE clear road in Paulding County and then pick on me for 'overreacting'.
  22. HRs#1NANA is on her way home from her camping trip in Tennessee and had NO idea any of this was going on until I talked to her this morning. How can I get her home? He was planning on taking 41 to 92, but I think 92 at Crossroads is closed, I know Due West is closed to where she can't get home....Cartersville end of 61 to the courthouse maybe? She lives off of Bobo Rd in New Hope. Good news is she's in a Dodge truck...so I'm worrying about her >thismuch< less than I would be if she were in the Mustang.
