Yep, batted zero I haven't gotten a simple answer to some simple questions. For instance, if the only substantive difference between SCF with and without a 139 is that they can have scheduled passenger flights, what is wrong with serving people? Nor have you said why you don't want the market to decide. Two very basic tenants of our free enterprise system. I certainly don't think we could do worse than Mid-America Airport and I suspect we would do much better. The reason is that St. Louis is not much of a hub whereas Atlanta is. From the consumer's point of view; if you flew into Mid-America airport, about the only place you can go from there is St. Louis... even if you drove the 50 miles to Lambert field. If you landed at SCF ... you'd be within 35 miles of HJIA ... and you'd still spend more time at HJIA getting to your plane than you would from SCF to HJIA (except between 7a and 10a MF). pubby -

Mid-America is in the St. Louis area and is across the river in Illinois. It is a failure, for sure. Given the relative ratios and assuming that Silver Comet is as bad at attracting passengers as Mid-America Airport; the relative size of the markets would be the deciding factor. The math of ratios would be based on the 12.4 million passengers at St. Louis' Lambert Field vs. the 27,000 passengers at Mid-America Airport. I see, your three high school grads sitting on the BOC are going to do that with the GA airport because of their deep experience in economic development. Where's that business plan? They've done a great deal to moderate the sound from commercial jets during takeoff and landing is the first thing to note. The regulations regarding sound, btw, don't apply to corporate jets (which are, typically smaller - less thrust) but often exceed the sound levels of commercial planes. Without question, military jets - because performance is the critical design criteria - are the worst offenders in regard to sound. Actually Whitey, I thought I was very factual. What I said was that the airport before and after the proposed 139 application would be pretty much the same. The runway won't change. It will have a few more electronics for a control tower and, yes, there would be a fence around the perimeter. Oh, and the big change is not that airplanes would fly in and out ... but that the airplanes coming in and out would be authorized to carry people. Aw come on Tundra. With out something like the part 139, there is little to attract folks.
