  1. So much for free enterprise and competition, huh Now you're being silly. A significant portion of those flights would come from Rome, from Cartersville, Douglasville, and Carrolton. Given the destinations will likely not be the same - I'm suspecting smaller cities will be served (Those cities from which service to and from Harstfield has been suspended to make room for International flights and additional flights to major cities.) less than half the traffic in a 'best case scenario' would be to and from Atlanta via 278. I'm also thinking we're talking more about families ..

  3. Hartsfield-Jackson to set annual passenger service recordBased on a statistical model provided by accounting firm KPMG, officials at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport believe that its 100 millionth passenger will arrive there on Sunday. The milestone will break a record for the most passengers served by a single airport in one year. Last year, the airport received 96 million passengers.

  5. An emergency phone call asserting a home invasion robbery was in progress led the Paulding County Sheriff's office to 5439 Villa Rica Highway where six adults and two children refused to come to the door, creating the possibility that a dangerous hostage situation was unraveling. After about an hour and a half first one, then two and ultimately all six persons holed up came out; the first one with the kids in tow. While we heard the constant pleas for the folks to surrender to officers, it took the threat of tear gas at the end to dislodge the last hold out. We talke

  7. Everyone has surrendered. There were six adults in the house, a youngster and an infant. All six adults are in custody but no charges have been made as officers have to sort out the situation to determine if a crime has occurred. The woman who called 911 is also being interviewed, said Sgt. Henson. The process now is to obtain a search warrant for the property to conduct the forensic side of the investigation while investigators interview those being held for questioning. I do have a video of the interview with Sgt. Henson. pubby
  8. Michelle and Josh ... come out of the house ... the officer instructs. come out the front door. You are not going to get hurt, you are not going to be thrown to the ground ... Michelle, we need you and Josh to come out of the house. It is unclear which of those in the house were hostages or perpetrators as that will be determined by further investigation. pubby It appears that authorities are about to fill the house with tear gas to force their exit. pubby they are coming out without the need for tear gas If you wonder how I'm getting this ... the property in question
  9. Two people identified only as Stephanie and Riley surrendered just moments ago. Two others, Michelle and Anisha, remain in the house ... and as I type, one more has surrendered .. "just walk on up to the road" the officer with the bull horn instructed. Apparently there remain two more people in the house: "Michelle" and an older person. Come out with your hands up and nobody is going to get hurt .. we are not going to leave until everyone is out of the house. Need you to come out ... we are not leaving or going anywhere until you come out of the house.
  10. HOSTAGE SITUATION ACTIVE ONVILLA RICA HIGHWAY Georgia Highway 61 south between Jane Harris Road and PineShadows drive is blocked by a contingent of officersincluding the Paudling County SWAT team as officers seek toascertain the condition of presumed hostages as 5439 VillaRica Highway. Officers can be heard pleading with individuals insidethe residence to reveal themselves, call 911 or put theirhands slowly out a side door of the home. Sgt. Ashley Henson said a female resident of the home called911 to report a home invasion robbery in progress. Thewoman, Henson said, had escaped and ma
  11. They adopted the names legally. If you knew anything about Islam and fundamentalism, you'd realize that the jihadists females tend to dress very modestly once they become 'devout' ... and it takes a devout fundamentalist to be a jihadist. I guess for folks who may think that Obama is a Muslim, anyone could be one ... and considering that 43% of Republicans mistakenly believe that he is and considering statements also suggest they think the only good Muslim is a dead Muslim, these could be tragically dangerous misconceptions. Surely you don't think that Obama is a Muslim; do you Tund
  12. The woman charged in this does not appear to be Muslim at all. Look at her hair, her makeup and her name (Holloway). To assert that she was a Muslim is sheer demagoguery and totally irresponsible. All they're doing is trying to raise a mob for some kind of lynching. pubby
  13. Thanks for the post, LPPT: It is not nearly as rare as the Indian man who survived a tiger attack by grabbing the animals tongue and choking the beast to death ... but it may choke those who seek to divide and conquer. And if you haven't guessed ... dividing and conquering is the game played by elites ... and things like religion are the tools. That insurgents - those who are out of power but seek power desperately - use the same tools should not come as a surprise. pubby
  14. I'd recommend using the gallery. You've done it before click here: You upload the image there; look under options for the links dialog and then select BBCode to put it in your post (based on the size). The upload button should be on the right. It will ask if you want to use a new album ... not necessarily. pubby PS you can find the gallery on the line below your name on the top ... or choose 'my gallery' from the drop down on your name.

Bloomberg's Ashlee Vance went to Hotz's home to find out... and took his retrofitted Acura for a test-drive. 16. No they don't. You want a town hall meeting, go to Vermont, or is it New Hampshire ... I'm told they may still do that but it was never a feature of government in the south. What are you, a Yankee??? I have been a bit miffed by the changes in the open meetings law in 2012 ushered through the General Assembly by Republican governor Deal and Attorney General Olens. I think the air show effort ought to be a marketing tool at best. From what I hear in the video of the meeting, it was a debit that was supposed to be repaid but repayment doesn't look promising. I think for other reasons the ai
  17. Just got a call from my wife who had to divert off Bill Carruth/Hiram bypass because of a serious accident between her (she was going east bound on Bill Carruth) and 92 at about 5:10 p.m. Apparently as many as six cars may have been involved. Be aware and be careful. pubby
  18. you used to be funny. I didn't criticize you for posting this because it wasn't local. Fact is it is national. The document points to the crony capitalism practiced by leading republican governors like John Kasich (R-OH) and presidential candidate, Scott Walker R-WI (former presidential candidate), Rick Perry (R-TX) former presidential candidate also in this round. Bob Martinez (R-FL) , etc. etc - all republicans. Frankly, I'm not a great supporter of public private partnerships - they can fill some needs on a practical, pragmatic level - but the champions of the tactic are a

  20. Oh, I see ... so how many billions of dollars has Atlanta pulled in for HJIA? It is all about an air transportation SYSTEM ... and ever since 1980, the Republican mantra has been public/private partnerships. I guess you're not in favor of public/private partnerships? Always trying to make things personal ... I suggest you make an appointment yourself. I doubt the trees on the airport property will grow back. What happens on the 9400 acres once the PR value of 'leaving it undisturbed' by the city of Atlanta - they're playing to the NIMBY crowd with that one - is what conce
  21. Having seen the comments here before watching the video, I was surprised. All I can say is hearings can be dull, redundant and boring. Those who left the meeting, unlike Mr. Pownall, were not likely to seek election to any office in the near term. Ultimately, Mr. Pownall, I feel, wanted to strut again and the assertion that all the members of the AA didn't stay for the entire hearing was at best a weak criticism. For a little bit different perspective, check C-Span some time and, in those brief moments when they show more than the well (where people speak) you'll see that most repre
