The Beginning of the End for Airport Expansion?
gpatt0n replied to michaelsudan's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Whitey: Landslide? BS ... with the turnout so low, the only thing anyone can say about that election is that apathy ruled. On the court cases, your opinion doesn't count. In the convoluted legal system we call ours, finding the opinion that does often takes seven to ten years. If you don't like that situation, move to a dictatorship. I deplore the sewerage spill and the state regulators, who are probably 'no-regulation Republicans', obviously are ducking their responsibilities. That said, we have greater problems with sewerage in the county and your suggestion that spill wa -
The Beginning of the End for Airport Expansion?

No actually my $20 bet is on the anti-commissioners throwing up their hands and selling the facility to HJ ... which would mean that Delta would be in control of the airport ... and we'd be looking at the construction of a couple of 9,000 ft. runways in the decade following the ultimate shell game sellout. pubby -
The Beginning of the End for Airport Expansion?

I disagree. Everything these folks did to keep the wraps on things was authorized by the Sam Olens 2012 rewrite of the Open Records/Open Meetings law. I disagreed with that policy change and this distrust is the likely outcome but the idea that these folks were doing anything illegal is silly. You've got to look at the motivations ... and the outcome. The motivation for secrecy was obviously because Delta and the powers that be surrounding Atlanta's Hartsfield Airport are very jealous of their stranglehold on the market and would do whatever they could to wreck any effort by any en -

I need to do a before and after for sure. I'm guessing the cost of having them drop it off won't be too great (although I might be able to charge them if I pick it up Most of this stuff goes into the landfill anyway. pubby

CC: It will look better after you put gravel on top If you know anything about road building, the fabric mesh of the carpet will help stabilize the gravel. Besides, it is more useful than putting in the landfill. pubby

Yes, there is a minor drainage problem ... the kind that typically comes from (for Paulding) amazingly level ground combined with the amount of wet weather we've had in recent months. The good news is that the areas I'm using from driving typically dry out enough in about 48 hours to be solid (there is drainage but it is relatively slow). I mentioned needing to get another bobcat out for placing gravel ... well the work done will have to be a bit more than just gravel. All I can say is that task is in the works ... pubby

I've already laid two dump trucks of gravel on the property ... and let me tell you that it is a lot easier to spread it if you have a bobcat ... so much easier that I expect that I'll have to do both again ... and at about the same time ... so it is pretty expensive. The plan is to build a bit of a underlayment for the path and then add carpet on top. I'm thinking the weave in the carpet will help keep the gravel put on top less likely to be lost in the mud kind of like the bit TP showed with the plastic mesh used in England. LPPT: Maybe it is age but I'm not seeing what part of B

I know that most of the scrap carpet ends up in the land fill or is otherwise recycled. I have a need for a fair amount of scrap carpet in shoring up a driveway that with the amount of moisture we've had, is becoming a mud pit. I've heard that a strip of old carpet could be helpful in making a make-shift drive by covering some of the more difficult areas. I'd need about 100' of 8-10' wide carpet to provide a base. I figure I could come and get the scrap ... but I don't imagine there would be additional cost? Or am I just not thinking right on this. pubby

Cop, Who Feared For His Life, Gets Charged With Murder.
gpatt0n replied to Eddie Bennett's topic in RECENT TOPICS
For those wondering, this is the Decatur policeman who was charged with murder in the incident where the family called the police for help because their son/brother was naked (unarmed) and acting erratically jumping off a balcony, etc. (a veteran diagnosed with PTSD, BTW) and then shot by the policeman who 'feared for his life.' According to the article that I read in the NYTimes the grand jury chose to indict the officer even though he was given the opportunity to address the grand jury in chambers (secret) and explain himself without so much as the DA being able to interrogate him (Geor -
Pope Francis spoke out Friday over the increasinglyaggressive nature of much political discourse and the use ofsocial media as a forum for personal abuse. I think another explanation may be people burning trash and the boom could be the occasional spray can that explodes in the trash. Sometimes these are more exciting blasts than the average person anticipates. pubby PS: When burning trash, remove spray cans of stuff or ... run a video camera to make your own jackass movie:)

I had a guy doing some carpentry and from his position in the house, he said it sounded like it came from the east side of the property ... but it was pretty close ... I suppose it could have been a transformer but I saw no disruption to the electricity that would indicate so much as a surge. pubby

I heard it too. It sounded like an explosion or possibly a wreck. I looked out the window and saw that traffic was still moving on 61 so I discounted the wreck explanation. I didn't see any smoke or other evidence ... and I will admit no one I know has that bad of gas. pubby

I just got through viewing this documentary that proves that monkeys are more informed as to the basics of human population than the best educated brits. I have to admit the monkeys were, on average better informed than I, as well. The point is the population bomb - source of much of the pessimistic attitudes regarding the earth's future for mankind - is not nearly as dire as most assume. The point of the presenter is that the future of mankind in the context of population is not a runaway example of exponential growth that will only be controlled by a mass killing.

Alan Rickman, famous for playing villans, dead at 69
gpatt0n replied to gpatt0n's topic in Paulding County NEWS
I did find that when he was in a production, I would tend to watch it. For some reason the word 'acerbic' seems appropriate. I think that comes from his role in the first die hard movie. pubby -
