  1. Yep, batted zero I haven't gotten a simple answer to some simple questions. For instance, if the only substantive difference between SCF with and without a 139 is that they can have scheduled passenger flights, what is wrong with serving people? Nor have you said why you don't want the market to decide. Two very basic tenants of our free enterprise system. All I've heard are complex, convoluted comments that conjure conspiracy theories that put any of mine to shame. pubby

  3. I certainly don't think we could do worse than Mid-America Airport and I suspect we would do much better. The reason is that St. Louis is not much of a hub whereas Atlanta is. From the consumer's point of view; if you flew into Mid-America airport, about the only place you can go from there is St. Louis... even if you drove the 50 miles to Lambert field. If you landed at SCF ... you'd be within 35 miles of HJIA ... and you'd still spend more time at HJIA getting to your plane than you would from SCF to HJIA (except between 7a and 10a MF). pubby
  4. I understand that we've probably upset people in every imaginable group both by commission and omission. That is the price of offering a forum where free speech is encouraged. I don't think people truly realize that such a forum is represents. As a believer in free speech, including those opinions with which I oppose, I obviously do. pubby
  5. Mid-America is in the St. Louis area and is across the river in Illinois. It is a failure, for sure. Given the relative ratios and assuming that Silver Comet is as bad at attracting passengers as Mid-America Airport; the relative size of the markets would be the deciding factor. The math of ratios would be based on the 12.4 million passengers at St. Louis' Lambert Field vs. the 27,000 passengers at Mid-America Airport. That represents the market share of Mid-America Airport at somewhere less than 1/4 of a percent (.22% market share.) So what would a .22% of a percent of the Atlan
  6. I wasn't degrading their educational status ... I was stating fact. As far as more votes in this, that is comparing apples to oranges. Now, as far as your facts ... I would suggest they are opinions. Pure supposition That is almost absurd to state and definitely an opinion ... such business plans are considered corporate secrets, at least in my experience. A small percentage of voters have spoken - somewhere in the neighbor hoot of 4 percent of the registered voters as the May 2014 primary in Paulding had but 5004 ... or was it 5020 votes cast from a registered list of
  7. ... pissed off the state chamber of commerce ... I know ... the titular head of it being ... Delta's president I really got a good laugh out of that one Strange thing about free enterprise and fostering competition ... those who feel they are entitled to a monopoly get pissed. pubby
  8. I see, your three high school grads sitting on the BOC are going to do that with the GA airport because of their deep experience in economic development. Where's that business plan? The real reason that the FAA is even considering the 139 is because they are at loggerheads with HJ and not a little pissed that folks like Delta have turned up their nose at subsidies the FAA is giving to smaller city airports to arguably the biggest hub in the world ... thus crippling commercial air transportation system. Why? Because they can make more money on international flights and other flight

  10. Actually, I've been pretty outspoken about the culture here ... let me clarify ... the vindictive culture here that I feel is responsible for prosecutions, litigation, observed efforts to intimidate and bully, not-too-subtle boycotts ...etc., etc., etc. I was just pointing out that all who act in this manner feel justified because the culture endorses the idea that if you don't decimate anyone who challenges you, you are weak and to be exploited. And if you put up a fight, they fight to the death with little mercy or consideration. And your smartass comment suggesting that I deny cra
  11. They've done a great deal to moderate the sound from commercial jets during takeoff and landing is the first thing to note. The regulations regarding sound, btw, don't apply to corporate jets (which are, typically smaller - less thrust) but often exceed the sound levels of commercial planes. Without question, military jets - because performance is the critical design criteria - are the worst offenders in regard to sound. The other way that sound is lessened is by locating airports in more remote areas. Silver Comet Field is about the most remote, least inhabited area in the sprawling
  12. I find it fascinating you want to turn over the administration from a board that included pilots and others directly involved in economic development to an elected board that contains, at most, one person with more than a high school diploma ... because the airport board lacks expertise. You point out that there is nothing in the EA or other document that says that commercial will be any more successful than a general aviation airport ... and they shouldn't. The Environmental Assessment was there to determine if there was a substantial change in the environmental footprint of the facilit
  13. Stradial I've never suggested the county was run by six or seven families. I've always contended there were two major factions - one the "Dallas Crowd" and the 'not Dallas Crowd." The two groups swapped power every four years going back to the times of the single ordinary as county CEO. The various factions were notable because they tended to spend the county to near ruin at the last of the four years and were justifiably booted out leaving the other faction to struggle to govern the first year, get a handle the second, do something the third and try to get re-elected by spend
  14. I beg to differ Whitey: It is well known that David Carmichael resigned in early November; February being in the future. The suggestion above that it was in February was an error and will be corrected. I was thinking ahead to the next deadline when Mr. Pownall may elect to resign so he can make his run for Chairman. BTW: I was there this afternoon. I sat in the back of the room. As far as your suggestion of he Chairman as King, David Austin was simply asserting the power that the Chairman has traditionally held. That contrasted with Mr. Pownall who wrongly asserted that post commis
  15. Appointment's to IBA 'skipped' In a scene that conjured nervous laughs, the Paulding Board of Commissioners efforts to move along in the agenda literally ground to a halt as no motion - even motions to table the appointments of Matt Buzzelli and Alan Shipp to the Industrial Building Authority - seemed able to pass, or in many cases, even gain a second. The scenario of motions that either died for lack of a second, or were seconded only to fail to gain a majority was replayed like a broken record to the amusement of the gallery - so much so that Pat Tibbits, clerk o
  16. You nailed it RM: It is the 'modus operandi' of the GOP and has been since Jimmy Carter. The discipline of those on the right is legend in this respect and part of the ruse is to deny it, assert independence and 'so-called logic.' Why? Because the psych-ops playbook says that is the most effective. There are the rewards of power for those that follow this path. As the likelihood that Donald Trump is going to get the Republican nomination increases - I mean who is going to stop him? - his strategy for gaining the office is being recognized for what it is (and what I've
  17. Whom ever said you can fool some of the people all the time sure had it right. Consider that the status of the lawsuit and strategies in targeting the Environmental Assessment would become completely worthless if they proposed the previously threatened landfill or some other intensive use. Put it this way, I won't believe they intend to leave the 9400 acres undisturbed until they legally divest it to some conservation group. The WMA designation is revocable and it has been threatened before. Besides if the city of Atlanta were dedicated to the environment, why didn't they withdraw t
  18. You want those things (water, sewer, infrastructure? I wouldn't elect the slate of folks that you backed and elected if I wanted those things as they are dead set against such use of tax revenues. Talk to any of them about what government should do and they'll be the one's who say, government shouldn't do squat. They want the job of commissioner because they promise the people to do nothing meaning they got a job that pays them to do nothing. That is a misstatement. There is a lease on the facility that guarantees that the bonds are paid (like rent) as overhead and at the end of t
  19. Au contraire This thread is a perfect example of the anti's effort to baffle people with BS: The "official" purpose of the environmental assessment was to determine if the granting of a piece of paper and the modest improvements - adding a fence, building a control tower and fire station for instance - would significantly alter the environmental impact of THE EXISTING AIRPORT ... since the project does not include any major extension of the runway or other 'CAPACITY expanding' actions. So, did anyone from the anties answer that question? jobs are. Well I see about five or six wi
  20. Actually Whitey, I thought I was very factual. What I said was that the airport before and after the proposed 139 application would be pretty much the same. The runway won't change. It will have a few more electronics for a control tower and, yes, there would be a fence around the perimeter. Oh, and the big change is not that airplanes would fly in and out ... but that the airplanes coming in and out would be authorized to carry people. I pointed out that right now the airplanes could carry toxic substances, poisons, and any number of other things. These things fly in and out of
  21. If you think of it logically, you can see that you're logically only half-right. The folks who, as you say, take glee when a right wing gun nut shoots up a school, theater or church, those who don't drool over gun metal or get sexually excited by guns do feel they are justified in saying "I told you so." These folks, however, do not profit from this insanity even when the perp is that right-wing gun nut. They may be outraged. Logically, they know if folks didn't have guns or feel the need to have, hold and use a gun, the tragedy would be avoided. But more than that. The liberal agenda
  22. The finger is pointed at the media - the commercial media - which has led us into war before (remember the Maine ... remember yellow journalism?) The media has always been tied up in the short term. With the cuts in news staffing literally world-wide, the wisdom that was the institution was given the pink slip and the exuberance of youth directed only by the pencil-pushers interest in short term results have become the priority. Yes, if it bleeds it leads ... and we'll go to the ends of the earth to deliver you a timely story of mayhem ... and to hell with all the boring stuff good ci
  23. (Paulding County, GA) Are your kids getting a tablet or cellphone for Christmas? If so, do you know how to keep them safe while they are online? Sheriff Gary Gulledge wants to help keep kids and adults safe this Christmas as they explore the world online. The Paulding County Sheriff’s Office Crimes Against Children (CAC) Unit is active in preventing and resolving cybercrimes that affect children. Every day, CAC Detectives encounter cases where crimes could have been prevented if parents had more knowledge of their children’s internet devices. The Crimes Against Child
  24. TP: We don't slaughter our neighbor for food when we're hungry (normally). Society seeks through customs, mores, and taboos, to limit sexual contact between adults and children and closely related family members. That it happens is because of our baser instincts. Civilization is an effort to control and contain those baser instincts. Why? Because our culture, intellect and upbringing usually tell us to strive to be more than savage animals. pubby
  25. Aw come on Tundra. With out something like the part 139, there is little to attract folks. I mean the benefits of the commercial aviation license is something special here and would demand a premium ... instead of the facility being just another general aviation airport like the thousands of others. What your asking them to do is sell a new Black Cadillac without airconditioning in Miami in August for full list price that you've got to fill with people who are already angry. If you're so sure that it would be a disaster to go commercial, why not do so and then punish the principals for
