  1. I saw the message that low put up and saw I got one like it ... but I didn't look .... I need to check my messages more often 'cause there was proof of Thad with Daisy Click to enlarge. Looking good pubby
  2. That is if these folks, which turned up a key bit of evidence which is a copy of the song published in 1922 - a year before the copyright which established it is too old to have been covered by all the other copyright extensions, lose the current case. That they've got a 'good case' for bringing the song into the public domain is why it rated a NYTimes news story and why I felt it was worthy of discussion. Bottom line, whether the copyright will continue until 2030 really is in question. pubby
  3. One of the conflict points in social media is the use of the "happy birthday to you" song that inevitably gets dinged by the copyright owner Warner if you post a public video to youtube. Filmmakers, those who use the song in commercials, tv shows, etc. end up ponying up to $2 million a year in licensing fees to the 'copyright holder' of the song. That may end and those who did pay for the privilege may get rebates for their compliance ... at least since 2009 ... as it appears that the song was published in print in 1922 (and some other process issues) that would mean that song is in the

  6. It would be 'the current contention' if the decision to move to the North Industrial Park location had been tabled to ask such questions. Now, we know that they will have to spend possibly another $50,000 for a mile for extension of the 'trunk line' - what ever that means - from the current location to the new one. I.e. a sale. Would there have been a sale otherwise or would the county have been able to use the current fiber network? We don't know and frankly, do you expect that any of the FIVE commissioners KNOW ... or KNEW ... at the time of the vote? We really don't know ... you
  7. Published on Jul 23, 2015 Warning issued for a large earthquake to strike the West coast near San Francisco California (quote) "Any day now" comes from professionals: http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2015/07/21/major-quake-on-hayward-fault-expected-any-day-now-fremont-earthquake/ Notably, that USGS warning has been withdrawn. Still, a July 2015 New Yorker magazine article calling for a M9.2 earthquake along the West coast in the near term future: http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2015/07/20/the-really-big-one TV News ticker accidentally shows M9.0 "mega
  8. From what we've gathered, the neighbor has not provided countervailing evidence, at least momof3 has not acknowledged that there is any conflict in the formal records. Two, the failure to assert ownership by presenting that kind of evidence and instead strong-arming their version of the property line is not untypical of some people who simply seek to dominate and subjugate a neighbor for no other reason than to take the property. The mowing of it ... and for that matter the fact that is unencumbered and open for the presumed enjoyment of all could be negotiated as well. What are we talk
  9. I would tend to think they are bullies and their whole purpose is to bully and effectively show dominance. They probably have weaponry and given the nature of the stand your ground gun laws, they figure they may get to bully someone into victimhood. "Sure I shot 'em ... I wuz jus standing my ground." One thing you could do is dig a deep trench on your property and install a barrier down to about five or six feet. Fill it with concrete. This is well within but close to the property line. Then plant an invasive species of bamboo just on the other side of it. You will in a few shor
  10. Thanks for the explanation. You might be right, though. The folks at the county might just grasp that the existing underground fiber connection to the airport was 'appropriate' meaning there really was no need for any new 'trunk line' to the airport whereas the area 'just a mile' from the current location is not served by that kind of communication infrastructure and would need new, buried cables to be extended at a cost of $20,000/mile. I.e. the closer location might be a 'sale' vs. a 'no sale' for connection to the fiber net. But as far as scrutiny ... there won't be any now.
  11. Radiohead is right about concentrating on the lens, etc. What I might also consider is your actual situation. You know property line in question. You also know that if you put something on what he thinks is his side of the line, he is going to remove it. This means you have control over the time and places of his reaction.... you are effectively controlling him. This also helps solve the security problem of the cameras being vulnerable. You hide them in a car or a bush or even inside. You also do it in the daytime ... because you have more control than you think. Anyway, for $50-
  12. I just now saw this topic. The posts that TP made were 'off topic' ... pubby
  13. Satellite, would he have even entertained the idea of it being $30,000 a mile less if he trusted the figure? You still haven't answered the question that with the digital basis of the telecom system, why copper-based trunk lines would even be necessary. If I read you right earlier, you wondered as well. pubby
  14. For a good part of the time - you act as if it was a forgone conclusion that we'd not have an EA by now - the belief was the EA would be forthcoming. The delay is and was due to the conflict surrounding the airport. The legal strategy of those opposing the airport expansion and commercialization was to thwart every action associated with that projects success. Delay was the strategy and the point was to stop the airport by stopping the fire station. That the contract was/is expiring is certainly a reality. That the contracting business climate has changed here in the past two years w
  15. I appreciate your point ... but does anyone want to quote ATT like they are the gospel? Sure that is what he was told and I don't think he particularly believed it. And the point I was making is that the county could have paid for the ten miles and maybe even justified spending it if it would leverage investment in the western part of the county. I don't think I was making cheap sausage of what was said, especially if you take the discussion on the issue that included Mr. Pownall. Of course you are entitled to your opinion but it does seem you're saying that the three anti-airpor
  16. I did what you asked and reviewed the video ... and pulled this transcript: It is not precise but it is very close: So actually, David Austin saying the reason for the discussion is to get something in writing and get something clear cut fits the description of prodding, which I gather was your primary objection. Where I erred was in the use of the term "thinking" ... i.e. some facts were not certain (as Austin pointed out to Mr. Crowe) ... and I suggested that Mr. Crowe thought it would cost 'x' amount. He never said 'think' ... that was a conversation between Mr. Carmichael
  17. I understand and I was confused over Tony's use of the word think and the incident earlier when I think it was the chairman who pointed to Todd's use of the word "Think" ... to suggest uncertainty. I was dealing strictly with my impressions and not notes. Why he came back with his $20,000 cost per mile figure I don't remember but certainly it could have been a visual prod vs. a verbal one. (Someone, maybe even me, expressing an incredulous visage on the information might have been the prodding ... as I remember wincing when he called out the $50,000/mile figure.) You do know that my r
  18. Whitey: By being at the highest point in the county, the radio coverage from one central point is best. Indeed, there has always been trouble with radio communications in Paulding as there are, as I understand it, numerous 'dead' locations in the county. I think that answers the question, especially when you realize that antenna, regardless of where they are, attract lightening. (Oh, and that old Patriot, Ben Franklin, had a fix for that ... and it still works.) As far as the tornado ... you do know they have 911 centers (and they are important- really important) in places like Ok
  19. I think your version and mine are close enough be generally accurate and I don't have a problem with your take. My point is that he was told those attending the meeting that it would cost $50,000/mile and he offered that he didn't think it would suggesting it could be as little as $20,000 a mile - the uncertainty being what I understood. I apparently missed his saying he was for tabling the measure until then but I may have just not thought it a realistic comment. I mean he could say that all day long and I would still doubt that was ever going to happen given the Post 2 commissioner
  20. Huh???? pubby PS: If the original story weren't so weird, I'd swear this was off-topic. Thank goodness that it wasn't an anti-cop post
  21. Whitey: I'm not saying you're sipping the koolaid ... but I hear you're supposed to limit consumption to one squirt in a ten-ounce bottle of water. Be careful, violation of that recommendation can result in the breakage of internal organs. pubby PS: You make my case that the split in the commission remains and is not likely to get any better for the next 18 months, at a minimum.
  22. You know I am aware of that fiber is to the airport - part of the Parker Fibernet thing paid for with the stimulus money back in 2009. According to statements from primarily Tony Crowe, whom I wouldn't normally cite as an authority, the cost of running "Trunk lines" for the 911 center would be $50,000/mile although under prodding he said he didn't exactly know - it could be $20,000 mile ... but that they'd only have to construct a mile of those lines now to move the 911 center in the North Industrial Park wheras he was figuring it would be 10 miles or half-million dollars more to run them
  23. Whitey: A good idea (laying stuff on the table because government shouldn't be in that big a hurry) is a good idea, especially when it would avoid yet another divisive vote. The principal is that there are few things that government can't wait two weeks before actually acting. I don't care that you like your government slam-bam-thankyou man ... but hey, that is what we've had and what you complain about. The election of 2014 is ancient history ... but the failure to wait a week or two to build consensus happened Tuesday. And because of that, the conflict will continue.
  24. It seems the gun dealers are salivating at the prospect of buying 1,500 guns - many new and apparently rarely if ever used by Mr. Lash - from the LA cops for pennies a pound. The police are saying they plan to destroy the near seven tons of ammunition. Link As far as our mystery man ... He comes up as an investigative reporter for some rather wild place called iflscience.org ... Will Smith said it best in MIB ... This definitely rates high on your weird s*itometer. pubby
  25. But even that wasn't the issue with Mr. Carmichael's motion to table for four weeks. Mr. Carmichael was saying lets think about this for a few weeks and if everything looks the way it does right now, we can all vote together to make this move ... but we don't know we absolutely have to move off our original plan. Todd said - very distinctly said - I THINK we need to change. I think the important point is we were talking about four weeks. There is nothing short of evacuating the county that county government does that can't wait four weeks. That was my point back when I was
