Rockster: First, I'll answer you however I choose. It is called freedom of speech. As far as the involvement of the citizenry, it is never an absolute good nor absolute evil. Usually, better citizen input comes in more informal ways - in the halls, on the phone, by email and in conversations - rather than in the formal meetings conducted under formal rules. This is most desirable when the politicians and people are confident in the honesty and integrity of all concerned ... and directions and decisions are known well in advance of actual actions. (If you recall, the seemingly

Oh my goodness, I figured that you folks were more inventive than this. For instance, why not claim there was $100 million spent; wouldn't that be more impressive than $70 million. Of course you and I both know that both figures are made up because how you count the investment depends on what you put into the mix. I mean the least you could do is take off the $3.5 million for the 911 center and fire station that I can only assume was lumped into whatever made up figure concocted. (By just lumping the bond issues together for all these projects, which includes the Movie Studio, the figure

Is It Against The Law To Flip Someone Off?
gpatt0n replied to Eddie Bennett's topic in RECENT TOPICS
There is another element in this. If you flip off another driver or even a cop, typically all you have is a he-said, she-said circumstance in which you can plausibly deny ever having done the deed (unless the deed is caught on camera.) To wit: As you and your protagonist stand in front of a judge, he say's 'you flipped me off' and you say, "No, your honor, I didn't, he flipped me off." Any other witnesses? ... He-said/she-said is the essence of reasonable doubt. Now dogs; you put it in print. No reasonable doubt that you said that and the idea that you meant is also unreasona -
And the city of Atlanta would likely lose their ownership of H-J if it wasn't for Delta and their clout in the General Assembly which typically has bills introduced each session to wrest control of that airport from the city and put it under the state. To add to LPPT's comment above, the folks at both the city of Atlanta and Delta are horribly afraid that any airport other than H-J would get the support of the state legislature in addition to support from the FAA. When you think about that, you begin to wonder exactly what the potential of this as a commercial airport would be and you al

Austin addresses state of the county at chamber luncheon
gpatt0n replied to gpatt0n's topic in Fastread page
Mojo: I've thought about this aspect a great deal. I understand the reaction of Todd and others who felt betrayed by the secrecy associated with the announcement. That said, I would caution you to consider the money, the investment in tony lawyers from downtown ATL, the use of distortions in the presentation of the cases and other subterfuge that, in my mind, says that we are dealing with a very sophisticated and determined corporate entity ... which is frankly sticking its nose in our business even to the point of putting their puppets in office as they take over our county. When I -
So Whitey, with your first statement that you bow down to the economic royalty in Atlanta because they're so special. Let me ask you this, do you bow from the waist or drop to your knees. Who in their right mind, you ask, might do this? Maybe an entrepreneur is someone who sees opportunity. I think most entrepreneurs would be considered 'crazy' ... you know like the guy who invented cars because he hated stepping over the horse droppings that everyone thought would always be a feature of Main Street... or the guy who envisioned electric lights to replace natural gas lighting and keros

Anyone can sue anyone else for virtually anything. It is obvious that you subscribe to the notion that everyone should stay in their place ... or at least ask permission before they 'step out of line' and challenge a "Delta" or "City of Atlanta." BTW, the city of Atlanta has sued us before. They felt that since they were a big city they could come in there and buy that 9700 acres and not pay on it because ... well, they are special. I think it was the Georgia Supreme Court that told them they had to pay taxes. Hummm ... maybe that is why you like them so much ... they don't want

We all know that delta has a near monopoly at H-J ... that's why they're doing their best to kill any competition. One way to kill the competition is to gain control over the entity that seeks to compete ... however modestly ... You also have to consider that they own 9,400 acres here they (or their partner at H-J - the city of Atlanta - would like to convert to cash.) It makes supporting those forces here that want to turn the airport into a drag strip and do a little astroturfing to remove the airport overlay zoning that impacts all their 9,400 acres. They are also still a bit miffed

Thad... I got it. Nancy is just not heading that way today. Helen had borrowed the one I had at the office but we found another one at home. pubby

One of the principals of the company is the guy that ran Hartsfield-Jackson ... Saw him represent Propeller in a Congressional Hearing where he appeared as an expert. The video was posted here. A company is made up of people. They recruited and have the people with the expertise. This is one of the more disingenuous memes the anti-forces have concocted. pubby

then we should be empowered to make public every businesses plans ... of course starting with Delta which depends on the FAA for funding of that capital intensive operation called Hartsfield-Jackson. You'd have to have standing to sue, Whitey. You mean all those $900/hr attorneys down in Atlanta can't find someone with standing who would let them sue on behalf them without them knowing who they were because it if ever got out that the overall effort is for the city of Atlanta/Delta to put the paulding BOC in their pockets, it would insult most of the Paulding County voters. pu

Something they did got a business plan award from the US Dept. Of Commerce back in 2007 ... Perhaps Mr. Swafford forgot. Number two, the county went out and recruited a company to privately manage the airport and it is them that have the business plan including representing the county to new businesses. Privatizing the airport to a third party developer constitutes a plan. I figure that Mr. Swafford was bs'ing you over not having a plan ... kind of like an adult palming a quarter and then pulling it out of your ear. I mean I've seen him present five year plans about the airport tha

Well, I'm confused ... Oh, what you are saying is that they threatened to cut it from $200,000 to $130,000 and discussed it at the 10 am. work session but didn't formally amend the chairman's budget and so it never happened. that of course made it like the threats - Wasn't it Vernon who said they were idle threats and insisted that they didn't fire anyone - that were made to department heads and the like that was discussed in the morning meeting. I mean we all remember the onslaught of folks who suggested that this guy and that needed firing during the campaign. Hell, we see the appar

What the attorney said is that this is not a county manager system, which is formal governmental setup that includes the role of the county manager as the full-time hired CEO ... who also typically has his own staff in addition to department heads. The county manager system most typically involves part time commissioners, aldermen, ordinaries - they even call them county legislators in NY State - who act as a legislature and governing board. Indeed, we would recognize a 'county manager' system by noting its similarities to the school board superintendent, who is a hired administrator who

You obviously have no idea how budgets in governments work ... and neither do the geniuses who sit on the BOC. Further, you and they have no idea how others perceive the cutting of budgets. Rather than expense being a continuation, it becomes a new expenditure. And when you cut a budget like that of the economic development ... budgets unspent may be and are repurposed in the coming year without near the penalty. So, when budget time next year rolls around, we start with a $130,000 commitment to economic development. What should we do, applaud Tony's commitment to economic develo

I think the galling thing is that if the could, cptlo, they'd sue you for posting the pictures of the puppies ... just like their suing the guy who posted the state of Georgia owned and good-ole-boy dealt rights to sell the state the publication of the state law to a third party. If you would do something other being a smart ass and dissing TP, you'd know that. pubby

Former President and Georgia Governor has released the fact that he has cancer. The cancer was discovered when he had surgery on his liver earlier this month. The cancer has spread. The release was the first notice regarding the nature of health problems that Mr. Carter had late last month. Here is the article in the NYTimes.

In an effort obviously designed to punish Commission Chairman David Austin, the three insurgent commissioners removed from the county's budget funding for the county administrator, county government services director and the assistant to the county administrator. The position of county administrator was previously held by Mike Jones, who has been involved in the controversy with post Commissioner Todd Pownall; going so far as to suspect him of extortion and ask for an investigation. The move to remove funding for the positions was passed after a plea from Chairman Austin who begged the pos
