  1. If you can plow your way through this article it'll just blow your mind starting about half way thru. It's long and the writer comes at it in kind of a disjointed way. But by the end if your familiar at all with bridge construction, you'll have a pretty good picture of what happened. Why is still up in the air though. Rapid building technique gets scrutiny after bridge collapse: https://apnews.com/ed1fdde1d68248debf4e5a57f10a7884 Shared via AP Mobile.
  2. Article says they were post tentioning over live traffic. Post tentioning in place of what I understood to be a prefab bridge span is beyond me. It explains the pictures and video though. This has the making of one of those engineering disaster shows where everything went wrong. Design and practice at least. Throw in some bad materials and you've got the perfect storm.
  3. Same video. If you watch closely the extreme right of the span that's in place, there's a jerk at the bottom of the span and the top of the pier. It's a slight drop in relation to the size of the bridge, but its carrying the entire mass at that point. Then the downward movement of the span starts. The end of the span falls that little bit to the top of the pier and then the span fails out over the lane, that's where the pancaking starts.
  4. Feel for all involved. Can't imagine knowing I had done or not done something that eventually led to this. From the pictures and a cell phone video I've seen on line, it wasn't the bridge that failed. It was the foundation on the end you can see with the shortest section of complete bridge (canopy and deck) remaining. From the aerial you'll see what appears to be the cap of the end bent (the support on which one end of the bridge rests) on the ground behind the support on which it should bear. The pancaking in the middle of the span is from the canopy failing and crushing down on the deck f
  5. This was supposed to closely follow the fly over bridge on Liberty Rd. Times-Georgian: Funding delayed until 2024 | Villa-Rican. http://www.times-georgian.com/villa-rican/funding-delayed-until/article_78312ec5-def9-5013-abd9-c2245dc6236b.html
  6. Yes it is. There is the outside the box thought however, that the higher the percentage of calls that end like that for a given individual, the higher the possibility that introspection may be in order.
  7. Between devices that update the time themselves and that most wonderful concept ever created by civilized man, retirement , well, let me quote Rhett. Frankly my dear........ That being said, if there were to be some action taken that would keep it from being dark at 5:30pm any time of the year, that would be fine by me.
  8. Probably this. Dallas-Hiram, GA Patch: Dead Body Found On Road, Sheriff's Office Investigating. http://google.com/newsstand/s/CBIwrrenzjY And that would have been here. 8404 Pleasant Grove Rd https://goo.gl/maps/R8hWCSseka12
  9. I know somebody got fooled into planting something they shouldn't have with the false spring. Come on. Tell the truth.
  10. One of my favorite subjects now a days. Now that I can afford some better equipment and the musics digital, I've been really listening to lyrics for the first time. Melody's always been the thing for me. Probably because the words were unintelligible. That's most likely why lyrics on liner notes were such a big deal. I know I've seen my broke ass musician friends sitting with a tape deck and a spiral notebook hitting play and rewind over and over trying to decipher the lyrics so they could work up a song they recorded off the radio. Anyway, right here lately I've learned two things fore sure
  11. I know this sounds awful, but it's real. When submitting for intersection improvemnent funds, a part of the submission is an accident history. I'm not privy to what it is now, but there is/was a formula that takes that history into account when funding is decided. Weight is given to higher percentages of fatalities. That area has got to qualify by now. Wonder if there's anything in the works?
  12. Thought I heard something way off in the distance earlier.Experience would tell me that from your list of equipment and location, somebody pulled out of the side road and got hit. That's a pretty frequent thing right there.
  13. Free and easy to download, don't know if I've got it working yet. Thanks, good info.
  14. Sometimes things go on that just make enquiring minds want to know. About an hour or hour and a half ago, at least 5 sheriff's cars went flying EB on Nebo. Now that's more cars than should conceivably be in the area to start with, but its not all that unusual. The unusual part came when no more than two minutes later, they and a whole bunch of there buddies came back in the opposite direction. I quit counting at 9. Just makes you go hmm.
  15. I'm now officially looking for me some crazy, drunk ex-wife protection. Geez, just in the off, off chance that she might read this I should quickly add that it's a joke about a story in the news, Dear. It's not about you I swear, honey bunch. Please don't come burn down the house around me in my sleep, Sweety Pie.
  16. Just so it's clear. He's a member of the State Transportation Board. He is not a commissioner and has no direct authority over anybody, anything or any pot of money as a result of the position. He is however in a very powerful position, especially the Board taken as a whole. One that is very susceptible to temptation of someone that I would trust in the first place. I would be intensely interested in reviewing the Right of Way plans for any projects he would actively push into the pipeline.
  17. I swear for some reason every time I read this title I flash back on that lady who's pet monkey ripped her face off.
  18. You heard it here first. Over the next 4 year's you'll start to feel the squeeze to approve a transit tax and a push to join Marta. Scoff if you will, but do some research on something called the Atlanta Traffic Link (ATL) and its 13 counties. While you're doing that reading, keep saying the name Jerry Shearan at the end of every paragraph. Sit and mull that over for awhile afterwards and then tell me it can't happen.
  19. ... my bike. Weather like this makes me start thinking about wanting to get out for an afternoon run. Say, to the finest chili dog at the worst dive in west Ga? I know there was a couple riders out there at one point. Then I remember discussions about selling bikes and trailers and leathers and getting out all together. Was it everybody? Any riders left?
  20. Something must have happened to break it up a little. About mid-afternoon umpteen leo's left EB at speed, lights and sirens.
  21. I've always known I wasn't the brightest around. At least now I know I'm not alone.
  22. Variable Message Board facing wb traffic approaching Dallas-Nebo. No message on it, but it's set up to run. Usually a sure sign of coming construction or special event, Anybody?
  23. And that's why the state can't build prisons or farm out prisoners to a profit based private system fast enough. That right there.
