  1. Mine went up over $300 plus but the market value went down $10,000. Go figure

About the same as you, the house is no where near being worth what the county is appraising it for. It is a downright shame that our county, state, and nation is completely out of touch with reality.

And the middle class gets screwed again.

We did appeal the assessment, the website doesn't show a change as of yet. We haven't made a single improvement to the property with the exception of cleaning up the landscape.

  2. Brother, Air Force Intelligence (I know, that's a strange pairing of words), just spent his second birthday in a row overseas (21st in Afghanistan, 22nd in Korea).

I was in the Air Force for a tour, and I've been out a year Thursday. I miss it greatly, and might go back, but I've gotten the run around from every recruiter that I've tried to get in touch with (all branches, even Army!).

The problem is, if I did go back, we'll have a tough time selling our house. Thanks, economy!

  3. So why can't you be friends with someone that has a drink or two now and then or smokes? If YOU don't want to smoke or drink, don't. That doesn't mean others can't. I'm not suggesting you hit a keg party or start hanging out at places your not comfortable. Go to a nice bar, have a coke, let the others have a drink or two and play triva there. It really sounds like you have a "fear" of drinking and smoking, that if you are around it somehow you will start drinking or smoking through osmosis. It doesn't work that way (Ok the 2nd hand smoke kind of does but your not going to pick up a pack of Camels on the way home and start puffing away), as long as you have some will power you will be ok. I have a lot of co-workers that don't drink but they often join us after work and just have a soda and join in on the conversation. Being around it won't "destroy" your body like the rest of us are doing. (By the way, the holier then thou attitude that comes through in this post isn't helping you out either if you talk and act like this in your real life).

Hey, everyone needs a good designated driver from time to time.

  4. You ask so many questions that don't necessarily have answers.

The answers are much deeper than debating the worth of those here illegally. If our culture wasn't appetizing to any type of immigrant, would they come here? No, but if this wasn't a good culture, would you want to be here? Of course not. The problems stem with basic economics and lax enforcement of immigration policies. It all comes down to profit, and if we made the builders, restaurant owners, businesses, and farmers really hurt consistently in the pocketbook, then they won't hire those here illegally.

Americans would do the jobs of the illegal immigrants if the jobs paid minimum wages. But, we would have to have a wholesale change in how the medical system is currently set up to greatly lower costs for both the worker and employer. My idea would be for the government to absorb all medical systems, and pay them similar to how the government and military pay systems are handled. That'll never happen, however. We'll also need housing, living, and food costs to drop to allow those on minimum wage to survive. We would need to stop seeing record profits by major corporations (big oil for example) when the market as a whole is struggling.

There are many things that would require changes, but the changes wouldn't be consistent with capitalism.

  5. Two words:

    Nolo contendre.

And be good for 5 years (1 down...4 to go...48 in a school zone almost exactly a year ago...45 was the normal speed limit and at 9 AM in August, being new to GA, I had no idea school was in progress and I SWEAR the warning lights weren't flashing, but it wasn't worth my time to fight it. Paid I think something over $100 in Cobb).

I've been good since, even as I navigate the E/W Connector every day.

Great, I just cursed myself. Dammit!

  6. I predicted that Tex signs a somewhat (3-4 year) long term deal with the Angels. He is a better player in the AL and who can resist playing with that pitching staff and in SoCal?

The Halos do have a lot of cash coming off the books in terms of expiring contracts. They could make a run to resign Tex, but if they don't, they still get 2 draft picks in between the first and second rounds of the draft. The Angels are similar to the Braves in their prospect development, and they wouldn't be too heartbroken if he leaves.

  7. Are they still trying to dump Dale Murphy and Dave Justice?

Anyone married to that drunk driving witch Halle Berry needs to be traded...to his credit, they did get divorced.

  8. Better then getting nothing which is what they would have been left with had they not pulled this deal. He had the chance to resign for big money this summer and didn't. No other team wanted him from what I read, at least we got something. The pitcher is averaging more strikeouts then innings pitched at Double A so give him a year and he'll be a nice addition to the bullpen. Kotchmen is younger then Tex and pulling about the same type of numbers as Tex did at this point in his career. I like the move. We aren't going to make the playoffs, its nice to set up for the future rather then try to make a playoff run that wasn't going to happen anyway.

I like your point of view. Tex will command at least 20 mil a year next year (Scott Boras client), and the Diamondbacks couldn't add a good player on the major league roster like the Angels did. Marek could be a good addition in 2010, and Kotchman will be controlled by the Braves at a reasonable price for the next few years.

The Angels wanted to win now, and they put themselves in a great position, but it might cost them in the future. Kotchman has been their most consistent player this year. I too think the Braves made a good trade, even if it means hoisting a white flag on a nearly lost season.

  9. GT grad Mark Teixeira was traded to the Angels for first baseman Casey Kotchman and double A pitcher Stephen Marek.

Do you think the Braves got enough in return?

  10. Let me do it for you (with the pay) and you take off for 4 weeks!!! :p

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy I have a job, but I work for the toughest person that I've ever worked for. I get asked daily how do I do it. He's sexist, racist, a bully, and thinks he walks on water. I have a No one has lasted as long as I have in my role. It takes a lot of my old military discipline just to get by. Believe me, he has a laundry list of complaints with the department of labor...

    End Hijack.

Looking forward to a chili dog.

  11. I fully support this. Seeing quik-clot and other things like that in action is fantastic. It really is important to become desensitized to blood and other visions of battlefield trauma. It really helps when it counts. I'd trade a million pigs to save one military life.
