  1. wow, must suck for Tate going from Cartersville to potentially San Diego in 3 years. haha

and of course the Pirates make their draft move based on signability instead of talent.

You're right about the Pirates...and Tate is one lucky guy if he can get to SD. Great place to live if you have the $$$

Looks like SF might go for Wheeler at #6....

    You might be right...

Zach just went at #6 to the San Francisco Giants. Congrats to Zach and his family + friends!

  2. MLB Network just showed Zach waiting for his name to be called...Orioles at #5 are on the clock.

yeah...Looks like SF might go for Wheeler at #6....I hope he makes it to Atlanta. However, going to a team away from home might be less pressure. For McCann it has been great to play near home. Francour on the other hand has buckled under the pressure I think.

I don't think being close to home has bothered Frenchy too much...his strike zone is the problem.

  3. negotiations from the college pitcher's end will start at 50 mil, but most baseball people expect 20-25 to be eventually what Strasberg signs for on a 6 year deal.

If Wheeler is drafted in the Top 10, he'll be a millionaire if he puts his name on a contract.

Well, at any rate, Zach Wheeler will be with a MLB organization by 7 PM.

  4. Must be good if he's going so high in the draft. I would think there are better players, since I have only just now heard of him. What else does he have besides a fastball to throw at opposing hitters in the ribs with?

How are your ribs feeling these days?

  5. Understand - being drafted in baseball is not the same as most other sports. You will most likely go to the minors starting in either Single A or Double A making less than most make working full time jobs. Only a very few ever go from HS or College to the Majors. You start slow which is why you see less baseball players get into trouble with money than any other sport. Once he get's to the majors then - and only then does he stand the chance to see contracts worth millions.

Good Luck to this young man and no matter where you end up - I can say to you "Job well done"!

His signing bonus will be very large. He'll get more money than most of us will make in a decade.

The first pick in the draft will get a contract worth near $50 million.

  6. True, but if he is terminated he wouldn't be eligible for unemployment. If he has a doctor's excuse, the unemployment office views things differently. I know someone that this happened to and they were able to draw unemployment. Because of the doctor's excuse the unemployment ruled against the employer.

If he quits, then he isn't eligible for unemployment, unless constructive discharge is considered. If he is terminated (aka, fired, laid off), he is eligible for unemployment depending on how long he's worked for that company. http://www.dol.state.ga.us/js/unemployment...individuals.htm

  7. Even future Hall of Famers are getting laid off...on a bright note, the Braves acquired Nate McLouth from the constantly terrible Pittsburgh Pirates. They traded away OF Gorkys Hernandez (came with SP Jair Jurrjens from Tigers in Renteria trade), P Jeff Locke, and P Charlie Morton. Great trade.

  8. you have it mixed up. spring is skill and technique. in my opinion fall is for fun. not much competition.

congrats on a allstar player :)

Agreed. I loved "fall ball". If he loves baseball, definitely get him signed up. Congrats.

  9. And my husband is going into this, he is going to be training these people.

My brother worked with the ANA last year, and really respected the men he was training. But he wasn't shocked to read about this incident either. Many of the ANA didn't trust members of their own units.

  10. The cutoff for Georgia is Sept 1st. My 5 year old's Birthday is Sept. 5th .. and they wouldn't make an exception for her .. even though she can do cartwheels around kids her age. I was told no exceptions .. good luck.

I'm not very optimistic about the possibility of her being able to transfer back into the state. You'd think it would be common sense, but because it is government...you know the rest of the story.

  11. :o  Hate to say it but why does this not surprise me? This is what happens when you aren't in a military community..No support! Sorry it happend to you.

I'm with you DR, even though the way the bulk of Paulding has supported Spc King and his family has been the best show of support that I've seen outside of the military community. There are jerks everywhere, as someone alluded to, but there is much more understanding from the military community as a whole than anything in the civilian world.

At least those bastards from the Westboro Baptist Church didn't threaten to show up....

  12. Hello all. My wife is considering taking a term position in California for the remainder of 2009. The job is near her parent's house in Southern CA, so this is a great opportunity for my daughter (will be 5 on Halloween) to spend time with her grandparents.

Here is the conundrum...in California, my daughter can start Kindergarten this school year (cut off in December). However in Georgia, the cutoff is either late August or early September, but either way if she was here, she wouldn't start school this year. She's tall for her age and very intelligent (I swear I'm objective...), and I think she'll do fine in Kindergarten, but it wouldn't bother me one bit if she had to wait until 2010 to start school.

Will PCSD let my daughter transfer from the CA school system in the middle of the year, say in December? We haven't made it up to the district HQ yet, so excuse me asking here.

    Thanks for your insight.
