  1. I don't think the punishment fits the crime, and I think someone really over-reacted here, but I really wish these kids had not decided to egg cars...

I agree, but in this day and age, you'd better be damn careful if you go off doing stupid things to people's property.

  2. Me thinks you're missing something.

I =never= said the Bible doesn't condemn drunkenness. In fact, I 100% agree that it =does= condemn drunkenness.

But it does NOT condemn drinking. In fact, X drank every day. Everyone in that culture drank at least wine =everyday= because that is what killed the stuff (somewhat) in the water & they had nothing else to drink.

Don't forget that until Dr Welch invente non-fermenting grape juice to placate those folks who didn't think anyone should drink at all at anytime, every church used real wine in the Communion Service.

As for the use of the "X" ... The X is the Greek letter "chi" & is the first letter in the name of Christ (xristos). In English, the "chi" is the letter "X." The early church believed the name "Christ" was holy & to be revered, just like the Jews did with the tetragrammaton. The Jews wouldn't say the name of God because they believed they might somehow misuse the name & disgrace it. So they came up with an alternative name, Jehovah. Same with the Xian community. The X is a show of respect.

It is also shorthand that is used universally.

It is not "taking Christ out" of anything but a show of respect & reverence. Hopefully, it will get people to ask the question (like you) & gives the opportunity to explain the great principle of the faith --- & a little history too.

Many of the early copies of the manuscripts of Scripture have X in place of "Christ" --- that means the Bible used the X instead of writing out the term.

It was used extensively by the common folk until the 18th century when then it became mostly an academic & business use but it has been used for a long, long time, ever since the 1st century.

The chi is similar to the fish symbol, as in the Greek word for fish (ichthus, spelled: Iota Chi Theta Upsilon Sigma).

That is an acrostic which has many translations in English. The most popular appears to be "Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior"

    Iesous (Jesus)

    CHristos (Christ)

    THeou (God)

    Uiou (Son)

    Soter (Savior)

Yeah, thats the best explaination I've seen on this message board. Good on ya!

  3. What a waste of money!

I'm split on this. I COMPLETELY see your point. I'd love to catch a train from Dallas or Hiram to get to the NW side of Atlanta (Vinings) for work. The lack of transportation is absolutely moronic out here, all the while new construction is going on unimpeded. Every morning, I'm one of thousands in the "Paulding Procession" heading out of our county into Cobb and beyond on the E/W Connector.

Oh the other hand, sidewalks are rare here. Drivers are morons and it isn't safe to ride a bike here on the streets as there isn't enough space to stay on the far outside of the lanes. My daughter and wife love to go to the trail and bike/run. It is a peaceful place to get some good exercise without getting smashed by a redneck in a monster truck.

  4. Sweet. Good for him!

A buddy of mine from high school (Jason David) won a ring with the Colts, signed a big payday with the Saints, and is now getting torched every Sunday by the best wideouts in the game.

Oh well, he'll make more money this year than I will in the next 15. Shoot, I'll get torched by TO for half that...

  5. Partner, No one has to say it. We all know it is true! Some are not willing to accept that truth but it still remains the truth! I got money that says someone in Lousy-Ana gets killed cause they stay and wait on the Gov't to come pick them up and drive them to safety. I mean come on, this storm is gonna hit'em when they ain't got no money and can't afford a bus ticket. NO that is obviously Bush's fault. They have got to have their malt liquor! COME ON!!!

I'll be watching the crime rate in the areas where people head off to to avoid the storms. It is amazing how much the crime rate went up in cities like Houston and San Antonio.

  6. Shoot. I forgot to post how awesome the Holdens were for us too. We had some kind of sink hole that the Holdens filled for us. Bryan and Chantell are awesome (got some cute kiddos too!).

Support your local businesses!!! Give the Holdens a call.

  7. Absolutely appalling.

I personally think that Casey dated half of the police departments in her local area, and someone assisted in covering things up there. I doubt she is smart enough to do anything like that by herself. Its also amazing to see how many people she has tried to con.

Her wacko mother should have let her give up Caylee for adoption...better loved by a new family than not loved by the parent.

  8. First let me say I agree with Darwinism here. I have a good bit of info on this because of my job. I will say this: He was attempting to steal the copper wire out of a building. Yes the system was still charged. Yes the saying is true... If you're gonna be stupid, you better be tough. The person is now in a real world of hurt and he would be better off having died right there. When units arrived he was rolling on the ground attempting to put out the flames. He then got up to run and the flames came back. Injuries sustained were as follows: Bilateral 3rd degree burns to both arms up to the elbows. Both kneecaps are "gone" as he was trying to pry the wires out with a prybar while kneeling. Elect. follows path of least resistance. His liver has been fried. So while Karma is a Bi-otch his quality of life and prospects for the future are quite dim. I too thought the whole thing rather funny at first, but when tempered by my compasion for others I have to feel sorry for him. :( Everbody knows I am not a liberal pansy but I feel for this young man. It may be that God is using him as a lesson to others on what to do and not to do. Let's all learn from this lesson. Show a little compasion for his current situation and hope that those others learn not to steal from others.

The irony behind the whole story... The high power lines are not copper, they are aluminum. He did this over .01 cents worth of Aluminum not even Copper.

I only feel bad for the people in his life that "cared" or "tried" to raise him right. Even the worst criminal had someone who tried to save them from their self-destruction. I feel bad that my taxes may go to someone who might have to be cared for for a long while, if not the rest of his life.

I'm sorry, I save my compassion for the people who truly deserve it. Not criminals.

  9. Share this with your kids as an object lesson... HIS BUDDIES LEFT HIM TO DIE...... :o

    bb

    Great point, forgot about that.

We should make a law that if you commit a crime, get injured and want to sue the property owners, that if and when you lose the case, you are automatically liable for 2x the legal expenses.

    That or death by catapult.

  10. Hmmm, that seems ok, but we'll probably save that for a date night...sometime before the end of the decade (the next occurance of date night).

My grandkids love Applebee's and Buffalos. They have a great kid's menu at Johnny Carrinos, the Firehouse (their subs are fabulous and the kids get a fireman's hat; no alcohol though. (I didn't mean no alcohol for kids; well, you know; I meant they don't serve alcohol.)

We also like "something Azteca" (Mexican) next to Kroger on Ridge Road.

    Have fun!!

Azteca was good. We're just being picky tonight, I suppose.
