  1. I was an early adopter to CFLs...back when they were $15/piece and you had to turn them on 10 minutes before you actually needed light! Gosh, they've come a long way.
  2. So they're probably HPS...you should know that astronmers hate you. Still...what's a flood light? $15? So you can see that you thought about the bigger picture before purchasing. I actually think that anything under $100, that doesn't require us to do anything differently, is probably a no-brainer to the average household...but there's a lot of people that view taking their own grocery bags as a huge inconvienence.
  3. It should be on the owner, unless you're doing spec work. The added cost to construct a LEED certified building is usually less thn 2%. A secured leasing agent should be able to prove cost advantage up front. I'm surprised about the materials, since local materials (less than 500 miles) is actually a qualifying LEED point. Of course, as you mentioned, LEED is full 0f contridictions and people have to decide up front what points they're going to chase. I will say however, as a general rule, I think that the construction industry has turned into little more than a cookie cutting indu
  4. Global warming is TOTALLY different that being an environmental steward. But, I actually agree with you. I do not believe in global warming - I do believe in being earth friendly. Thank you for your input. Would you consider making changes, for instance - reusable grocery bags - if you someone could show you the impact? For instance, if I said (and this is totally arbitrary), that by you using reusable grocery bags for 5 years, it would be the equivilant of taking one car off the road...with of course metrics to back it up.
  5. Thank you!! I can tell that you want to see the financial impact and that the social aspect just kinda "comes with it". Did I read into that right? I actually think that your thinking represents the majority and that financial gain is important. Now, that said, CFLs don't save right away - they're actually 3-4 times more expensive up front. That said, you obviously see the long term gain. Tankless water heaters are a good example. Most of us dont have 5 grand laying about to invest, but they pay for themselves in a matter of 2 years max in water savings. So, that said, if the right money
  6. You know...I've been looking at churches for a while now, as well as a fall festival and activity for me and my son for Halloween.
  7. I'm in the "green" industry..and I'm actually going to be doing some new things. So, I have some questions: What do you do to be "green"? Do you care about being "green"? Would you be more or less likely to buy something that has a "green" angel? If you could make small changes to be green, would you? Do you think that there's any impact to what you're currently doing?
  8. I've only had a nail fungus once...back when I wore acrylic nails (wow, what a waste of money! and it took 6 months to get them back in good shape). I used tea tree oil, which worked perfectly, and its probably the same price as vicks!
  9. Schools out!!! And it looks like the ladies are already at the bike rack! ya'll so dern sassy, I just wanna spank ya! Homeward bound...gonna listen the Fish and lament on lifes beauties...like pansies, pepperoni in a bag and fan clubs. look out glambert!
  10. There is one thing that I know...some people are more sensative to language than others. For instance, I know boys that refer to me as their "f"-hag...and I know gay men that hate the term "f". I know a lot of people that can't stand the word "queer" and for them in conjurs up as much emotions as the "n" word. I have to be sensitive to this, because these words carry power to certain groups. If I offended you, I'm sincerely sorry. MOST of my gay friends are decatur "scene" types, with normal lives, and normal things that they do...but I know this one guy that wouldn't be ANYTHING if he we
  11. Damn Mark...someone call Chris Kids and tell them I'm a phobe. Or call my 3 lesbian roommates that I lived with for 2 years. Or my uncle, or his social worker at the Ryan White Foundation, or the fabulous Drag King that I made out with that one night at Le Buzz...oh God, and the things I did at Backstreet!! And all this time, I was really a homophobe. Who knew???????!!!!!
  12. I'm just saying that good looks can take you everywhere. I didn't buy the book for the content - I bought it for the pictures. People aren't even discussing him in the context that they are Lady Gaga or Rhianna, which have both brought outrageous FASHION to the music scene. He's every person that you walk by at Burning Man.
  13. I believe that I've mentioned my fabulously gay uncle on here. I have no phobe. And please don't compare this glamourtard to Bowie or Freddie...hell, I don't know if he can compare to Gary Glitter. Bottom line...his over the top sexuality is the ONLY reason that anyone is talking about it. Shame when the only thing that gets morning radio stations talking about you is the fact that your album cover looks like a Nagel print. But, I do understand Mark. Heck, I bought Paris Hilton's book for goodness sake.
  14. JMT IS MY HERO!!!! Adam Lambert is pretty...and beautiful as all the other precious gay boys at Bulldogs on any given night of the week. Snooooooze.
  15. I totally get that he's summoning his inner Chaka Kahn...but dear God, even the New York Dolls didn't suffer from this kind of identity crisis.
  16. Since you need one...bloody ears will result (this is possibly the WORST sounding thing I've heard)
  17. I agree with this. I think that 10 or so you can start to leave them, for brief periods of time, while you run an errand. We have to give them some independance so that they're not scared of life. I mean, is there a difference leaving them inside for 30 minutes or letting them play alone outside for 30 minutes? And my son is 7 and I let him play in the neighborhood with friends. Of course, this is if they've shown responsibility in the past. Anything younger - no way. This woman was whacky, but NC is right...there's little that will/can be done. Maybe an investigation, but sometimes - wai
  18. It is...and agreed. But this part was mentioned and thought...is that really so out of the norm?
  19. Wow. What a powerful story. Sunday, DBF and I were both headed out. I walked him to his gate and he saw that they had already boarded. In a hurry, a quick kiss and he was running down the jet way. He got out of sight when I realized that I didn't tell him I loved him. I texted him right away and didn't feel "normal" until I heard from him that night. It was the first time I didn't tell him I loved him since the first time we said it. I pray to God that I don't ever forget again. We're all in such a hurry - we have to slow down.
