Man, I'm going to have to read the handbook AGAIN??? Grrrr. 14yr old will be in 9th next yr. Seems like there is a lot of rules for all of the stuff. What happened to just go to school. Attend the classes (learn if you can) pass the final, and move on?

Me either. I actually think that it is quite rude to send your sick kid/s to school. Not only does it expose the kids to the sickness, but the kids could take the sickness home to elderly grandparents, or others who may have an immune issue. If my kid is sick he stays home. I really don't think the kids should be marked absent, but I sent in a note that stated that I kept mine at home due to the weather.

My son was. It was marked "unexcused" yesterday. I sent in a note today, and now it is marked "excused."I'm thinking it will be a big deal to those who might be wanting the "perfect" attendance award.

Gifted Classes Cut Because They Are Not Diverse Enough

How is a child any more advantaged then any other? Don't give me the BS about money, and crap. I'm sure Dr.Carson would disagree with all the fall back arguments. As well as Mrs. Obama, and her brother. I see this as certain people seeing other kids (who happen to be white) being gifted. I truly feel that if the kids were "other" then white this would not be an issue. I see that the racial make up of this school is fairly even. I also noticed that 61% of the students are reliable for free lunch. http://www.greatschools.org/new-york/rego-park/2466-P.S.-139-Rego-Park/?tab=demographi -

Gifted Classes Cut Because They Are Not Diverse Enough

Well that's wonderful. I guess those kids who can read at a second grade level just get to sit around bored while the other kids are figuring out what an "A" looks like. Still the class has/will be discontinued because there are more white kids then others. Wonder if those white kids were Asian if this would have happened? -
Gifted Classes Cut Because They Are Not Diverse Enough

First of all News Junky is a real lady. Please watch your language. Next no where in the original artical (sp) does it state that there was a cut in funding. I am thinking that the only way for any child, gifted or LD. Will be to place them on an IEP. This way if the school is not able to serve the student, the parent has the option to move the child to a school, public or privet that can. -
Gifted Classes Cut Because They Are Not Diverse Enough

You are right. These kids that are our future innovators must be encouraged. But, as long as we have quotas (although denied) our children, not matter their race will suffer. Now comes the question, how do we make sure that the kids who are gifted (and maybe on the precipice) get the challenging curriculum that they NEED. When a quality education is contingent on race, then America is stepping back. We need to stop this focus on race, and focus on the children. But, you know that will never happen as long as the "diversity" police are allowed to make policy. -

Never mind. Why do I even try to have a coherent discussion with you? That's a rhetorical question. That means you don't need to answer. -
Gifted Classes Cut Because They Are Not Diverse Enough

OK???? TP, Pup, and a couple of others have a totally different topic going on in this topic. When their topic is separated, I will address the funding part. As it is this topic is about the racial or lack of "diversity" in a kindergarten class. The topic has nothing to do with funding. Reading comprehension is fundamental. -
We have a 42", and hubs has said he wants a bigger TV. There's no way that's going to happen. Our living room isn't big enough for a huge TV. Now I wouldn't mind a surround sound system.

Backing out now. After having seen many declaws in my 20+ years working in veterinary medicine I will NEVER declaw my cats. There are too many cons vs pros for doing this. Want to save your furniture? Train the cat to use the scratching post. Learn to clip the cats nails. Use soft paws. This is a surgery, and it is very painful for the cat (even if it is done with a laser) it can cause even more behavior issues. Thank God there are less vets willing to do this, just like with ear cropping.

Gifted Classes Cut Because They Are Not Diverse Enough

I just want to reiterate for those who are reading comprehension challenged. This isn't about not having the funding, but about the racial makeup of the program. I see it as this school not wanting certain groups of students to feel badly about themselves. I also noted that this apparently is a Kindergarten class. It does not make clear that this is all of the grade levels. I would like to know if this is the case for all of the grades in that school. -
Cats do have a way of coming into our lives when we think we don't need them. She is there for you. All of the suggestions are great, except for the declaw. We use a spray bottle on mist when the cats were little, now if we have to use it (we use it more on the dogs) we will use the stream. We shoot in their general direction, with a firm NO. You can also scruff the kitten when she is getting out of hand, and tell her no, then put her in time out. If you have other people in the house everyone needs to be on the same page. Scratching post, the plastic ring with the ball they chase aro

First clean your wounds with anti bacterial soap, at least twice a day. If they don't start to heal pretty quick, a trip to the Dr. may be in order. Now for the behavior issues. Is she wanting to play, and is being really rough? Try to distract her with a laser light, or some other toy. If she is trying to be the boss of you (I know cats aren't usually thought of that way) when she starts the misbehavior put her in a time out. A small crate for about 5mins. One other thing (also because of the behavior you are dealing with) do you have room for a second cat? When we adopt cats we do in p

Gifted Classes Cut Because They Are Not Diverse Enough

That school will have a rise in discipline issues, and ADD/ADHD diagnoses. Again schools are teaching to the lowest common denominator. When will "they" stop trying to level the playing field? Our kids are the ones that are getting screwed in this, and if a child isn't found to be gifted, or less then average at the Elementary level, then they will not be able to get the help, or more challenging classes in high school. The plain fact is that these kids can't wait, and they shouldn't have to. -
But, that's not right either. They specifically said the winter break would be used as make up days for any snow days. With that being the case, why should any other plans have to be made? And, you wonder why we can't trust them to keep their word.
-
Well that's not fair to those of us who know that if there are any days to be made up they will happen in January. Knowing this some of us made plans for Spring Break. This is stupid. First, I thought that because of the state of emergency the days would not have to be made up. Second, I for one don't think there should be a "winter" break, but if they insist on it, then IT should be used for the make up days.
