  1. Well, I still don't have my answer, but you made me laugh!
  2. Maybe I'm not being clear - I apologize for that. But again, that's a result of parenting - not what is offered through Cobb county schools. If people are going to continue to say that Cobb county schools are superior to Paulding's, I want to know why. Yes, statistically, students have a higher achievement rate in Cobb, but that tells me what the students are doing, not what the schools are doing. If my son sits through a semester of Advanced Math at SPHS, and then sits through a semester of Advanced Math at Hillgrove, what will he learn at Hillgrove that goes beyond what he learne
  3. Does the school system pay for tutoring? I know that at my son's school, tutoring is offered weekly by teachers, so that's not an extra. All of our schools have computers. That's my point! So, I just wonder why we CONSTANTLY hear how superior Cobb county schools are to Paulding.
  4. Okay, that's what I'm looking for. What is Cobb buying for its students that we are not?
  5. See, that's what I believe. No matter where we live, how much money we make, which schools my kids attend, they will have every opportunity to excel - I'll make sure of it. I've lived here 12 years, and I've grown tired of the white trash jokes (in which I have at times participated) and the constant ridiculing of our educational system. It's easy to see why certain colleges or universities are superior to others. The programs offer far more than competitors' do. The degrees one receives carry more weight (not the case that I've seen with any high school diploma.) In a conversation w
  6. But, again, the school system has no responsibility in this.
  7. I'm just stating that no one, yet, has given an answer showing the investment that Cobb puts into their students' education which makes it superior. I have, however, read many answers showing the opinion that financial success of the parents, parent involvement, geography, etc. seem to be common denominators in the students' success. So why are the Paulding schools taking the bashing? From the responses, it seems that we, as parents, are to blame.
  8. But again, these are statistics based on individual student performance. What is the Cobb SCHOOL SYSTEM doing to offer an education superior to what our system here offers? I'm not interested in statistics. (Not trying to be snarky. We've all seen or heard them) My question is, "What does Cobb county offer its students - that Paulding does not - that makes the education its students receive superior?"
  9. You might want to join the other thread! Sure, that's what we do. But I'm not so short-sighted to know that for many families that could pose a financial hardship. And this also speaks to the issue of not having books. It's never been a problem for us, because we have access to internet, and we take the time to find the information our child needs.
  10. This is something that has always bothered me about our schools. When my son was in middle school, it seemed to be a bigger issue. He frequently had assignments that referred back to the textbooks. Now that he is in high school, he rarely has homework. He completes the assignments in class. That concerns me to some extent, but again, if he is excelling in the work assigned, and completing all state expectations, it shouldn't matter. One issue I have is the summer reading list that contains books that are not readily available in our library system. So far, from your posts, all
  11. Okay, but if the tax dollars aren't spent on advancements that teach my child something others from another county don't have the opportunity to learn, the education isn't "better", just more expensive.
  12. That is a statistic and has absolutely nothing to do with the education my son is (or isn't) receiving here in Paulding as opposed to Cobb. What are they teaching the children that is different/better than my child is being taught?
  13. Serious question: Why are Cobb county schools superior to Paulding county schools? My son is a sophomore at a Paulding county school. He is in the top ten percent of his class and maintains an A average. He has colleges already interested in him, and a good chance at receiving both academic and athletic scholarships. Students in Cobb & Paulding must meet Georgia Performance Standards, and teachers in both counties teach accordingly. They have teaching guidelines in place brought by policies such as NCLB. Both counties encourage their teachers to teach a curriculum based
  14. I don't know. They never said his condition, and I never heard a call for the coroner - just an investigator. (I am at work and could have missed it.) I just know that one deputy responded to the accident @ Scoggins and Hwy 61, then left there when GSP arrived to go to Bob Hunton. PS - While typing, the deputy went 10-8 from the ER.
  15. One of the deputies that responded is at the ER and has been for awhile. Hopefully, that's a positive!
  16. I just turned it on, too. I heard one of the supervisors advise to wait for back-up, and they have an investigator en route. I wondered what was up to warrant that.
  17. I hope you have good luck. By definition, he was in the "gore". The definition you listed above, if you'll notice, says "usually" and "most often seen", but isn't a complete definition. The gore is ANY area of the road where two lanes converge. I paid a ticket recently for speeding. They're certainly not cheap these days!
  18. I wondered when I saw your post. I heard the call yesterday. Then, she was threatening to use a gun. I hope she gets help, too. She is obviously crying out!
  19. Yes, it is normal. Costume companies make the costumes according to the orders received. If the studio does not order by November of December, they will be pressed to receive their costumes by May. And the costumes must be prepaid by your studio owner with their order. This really is something out of their control. You are not being hoodwinked! (I did this for 20+ years, so I know it to be true!)
  20. From where you are, Cedartown is the best. He'll be there in 20 minutes, and in & out in 10.
  21. Maybe you just buy a ream of pink paper, punch some holes and bind it with yarn. Allow her to get all the autographs while you take pics. Then when you get home, you could make a really cool scrapbook, cut out each autograph with the funky scissors, and paste them on the pages with her pic of each character. It would be a work in progress, but I bet she would enjoy putting it together when you get back.
