  1. Right Michigan - Update Well fortunately, this story actually ends on a happy note. Embarrassed at what a dysfunctional charlie-foster the Michigan DHS has degenerated into, someone finally got off of their sorry complacency and looked into this case. Lo and behold, they actually found something to act upon. Thanks to the efforts of the Department of Human Services' Office of Inspector General and the Menominee County Sheriff's Department, it was determined that some funny business was going on and arrested one Louis Wayne Cuff for food stamp trafficking. Buying high-end foodst
  2. I wonder how many folks were laid off in ANTICIPATION of this judgement?

  4. If I were one of those jurors, the State could keep their $15 a day; I'd rather have my privacy!
  5. You're right mei lan, what do we even care? I thought a discussion board would actually be a place to hear all sides, even those we do not agree with.) Will bow out gracefully. Good luck to all those involved.
  6. Didn't say a relationship couldn't be facilitated; it's just that much harder. How many military personnel would rather hug their kid every night than be across the pond? Didn't say Dad couldn't afford airfare. Inferred it would be very difficult to pay the CS and get over there frequently to spend time with their child. And very few people can afford to jet-set on a regular basis to England. Most people can barely afford rent and groceries. So, not quite a leap. And I didn't say she hated her Ex. I said you're supposed to love your kid more than you hate your Ex - commending Dad
  7. She put it out there; she's going to hear all opinions. You can say I'm being a pot-stirrer; I'm just a by-stander throwing things out there.
  8. The point I am trying to make is while Mom and child will be having this experience, what about Dad? Dad will be losing valuable time with their child. Dad will very unlikely to afford enough trips out to England (or have the child fly back home to visit) to facilitate the relationship. In a divorce situation, I get that there have to be compromises and you're supposed to love your child more than you hate your Ex. There are too many variables that have not been thought through. So far we've heard, "Money" and "great experience", but there is so much more.
  9. Yes, they both still have to provide with THEIR child. This is a choice the MOTHER is making. Great that Dad *says* he is willing to support this experience. Wait until reality sinks in. How is he supposed to pay for their child and get proper visitation while Mom is in England? Who's paying for that? MONTHS without seeing their kid. I think there are too many factors right now that aren't being taken into consideration.
  10. Looking forward to reading the transcripts!
  11. Still no updates? Pubby? Surepip? Surely there is *some* news at 6:35 at night...?
  12. Waiving child support for the year you are gone? Dad's gonna need it to see the kid...
  13. Why can't he just live with Dad for a year and visit you? Military deploy all of the time and leave their families behind for a year +. Regardless if you think this is a great opportunity, Dad still has rights and it's not right or fair to him to have to live without his son for a year.
  14. Another story: 6 young illegal immigrants arrested in Ga. protest The young people were protesting a policy that bars Georgia's most competitive state colleges and universities from accepting illegal immigrants and they were opposing strict new state legislation. A federal judge on Monday blocked two key provisions of that law. The young people, who decided to risk arrest and deportation for their protest, say that's not enough. "It's time to stand up and let the world know that we need to fight for what we believe in," said Nataly Ibarra, a 16-year-old high school student.
  15. Georgians react to judge's decision to halt parts of anti-illegal immigration law WTF?!: In Doraville, illegal immigrant Fidel Hernandez breathed a sigh of relief... Before the judge’s ruling, Hernandez was considering moving his family to Los Angeles or Las Vegas, where he has relatives. He crossed the Mexican border illegally more than 20 years ago. His wife is here illegally. So is his 17-year-old son. A handyman, Hernandez drives to work without a license. He was fearful he and his wife could be arrested and deported in connection with new the law. “I was having a lot of stress,”
  16. I don't think he was intending to be "racist" in his remark Surepip's comment of "would you want recent parolees... druggies, robbers, home invasion crimals... working unsupervised for you?" I think champsbbcoach's comment was more along the lines of, "Illegals can be all of those things, too, so your argument about parolees is moot." Parolees has paid their debt to society; have the illegals?
  17. No, definitely NOT the bath salts you use for a bath! 'Bath Salts' Drug Trend: Expert Q&A A new designer drug known as “bath salts” has become increasingly popular and increasingly scary. Poison centers across the U.S. have reported growing numbers of calls about the synthetic stimulant, and more and more states are banning the drug. But as of now, there is no federal law prohibiting their sale. Make no mistake: These are not bath salts like those you would use in your bath. First of all, what are bath salts? "The presumption is that most bath salts are MDPV, or methyle
  18. It's simply amazing and disheartening to see the amount of venom spewed and the amount of contempt shown towards the "average" County employee...

  21. Sorry, I just tried the "LOOK WHAT I FOUND" with hubs - no dice. Hope you find that sweatheart a good home, but it IS kitten season. Shelters/rescues are FLOODED.
  22. Prices soar on the used car lot Dealers and automotive analysts say it's the same across the country. A variety of factors, including the nation's weak economic recovery, high gasoline prices and the March 11 earthquake and tsunami in Japan, have converged in recent weeks to send demand for used vehicles skyrocketing and supply plummeting, said Jeremy Anwyl, chief executive of Edmunds.com, which tracks new and used car prices.
  23. Hmmm - Riddle me this, Batman: For those who are collecting Unemployment, why can't we take the healthy ones and bus them down to pick fruit/harvest crops? Yes, it's back breaking work, but if you pay them more than what they are getting on Unemployment, no reason to biotch. For those [healthy] who refuse to do it, you don't get Unemployment. Will your family suffer b/c you can't put food on the table, pay your mortgage, etc., yeah. But you had a CHOICE to work and you turned it down. That is NOT the government's fault.
  24. So is anyone going to the meeting and asking questions?
