  1. http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn23332-astrophile-mighty-trojan-found-marching-with-uranus.html Astrophile: Mighty Trojan found marching with Uranus I almost got up and went to the restroom to check.
  2. Often the bank either has in mind or is actively looking for someone to manage it and re open asap. It may not be the case but I have seen that and knew a management group that would go in for GMAC and Chrysler when they foreclosed on a store. They would get it making money and could sell it for a lot more. I was in a Chevy store where they told the owner we bring in this group or we take it from you and bring them in. The owner learned he did not know what he was doing and let the mgt team come in. I got the call to come in and set up a conversion van department(late 80's) and train the sales
  3. I so miss Kool Corners in Midtown!
  4. It may not have been up to them, the bank may have taken it.
  5. I hate when they want us to ask each candidate the same questions. If I ask what programming languages do you know and they flop it only embarrasses them if I dig deeper and wastes my time. I also may have someone with an experience I want to know more about. It is even hard to create the surveys for those on hiring committees for after the interview. What is funny is how different people can see the same person especially when race or gender is involved. You can really see that racism and women's rights fights are far from over.
  6. If I start a business I want you on my hiring committee!
  7. Try not to get too complex in your solution, chances are someone out there has created the software you need. I helped a union get set up with MS Access and was able to quickly find a nice template someone built for $99 that they now run their daily operations with. Once you get a good template set up all you are doing is entering data and running reports.
  8. Sounds like you have good hiring skills, maybe you could be part of her hiring committee. They don't have to work for or with you to be on a committee, we use people from the outside, student groups etc... . I do online surveys with questions and allow comments, it is easy that way to come up with a scoring system. Often the key to success is not in your strengths but understanding and overcoming weakness.
  9. Right there with you, sick and hoping my kidney remains stable. Stay away from protein and whole grains, if you are not holding down water get to the ER. DO NOT listen to vegans, they will have you on foods high in whole grains, bad protein and phosphates.
  10. One thing I found out about myself is I am not good at hiring as i want to see the best in people. Research hiring and try to use a committee, I am on hiring committees and often I find others have great points about a candidate I did not see. Also learn to hone your management skills as those of us with big hearts don't always make good people management decisions. One thing I try to get across when consulting is if the manager is good the place runs great when they are there. A great manager has processes in place so the business runs great even when they are not there. The ladder is easier
  11. Again thanks, here is the email she sent me today, great service through that contact! Dear Mr. XXXX: Thank you for contacting Comcast Cable regarding your service concerns. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused for you. Comcast strives to provide outstanding customer service and we appreciate your bringing this matter to our attention. Per our records, UPS delivered our digital converter (Anyroom DVR) to your home on March 19, 2013. We applied the promotional offer of complimentary DVR service for twelve (12) months, March 2013-February 2014 for this
  12. I emailed them and got a call Saturday. I explained my issue and that I would at this point expect a new box shipped to me. She agreed and was able take care of it.
  13. If your son has a black Dodge pick up that is wrecked in the front I got the car he hit. Calling the cops when I get home to go do a report and turn in your info. Contact me if you like and we can avoid your arrest. I tried to find who to contact you via your tag number but I guess only a cop can get that info. Ooops Dodge... I am really batting zero Saturday!
  14. Called them on my lunch, explained what was up and that I would like a new box shipped as I don't want to deal with the rude office. They could not do so, Saturday I get to go back to the lovely Comcrap office to try again. I am going to ask they test it with me present, at least show me it powers on.
  15. Idiot is being kind, I went with a dead box, they gave me another dead box. Upon return they were very rude and talked down as if we were dumb. She was insistent we did not call the number to activate the box, if would not power on so why call the number. Now comes box number 2, as soon as it was plugged in I could smell a capacitor heating up and of course this box does not work. It does not take a genius to plug in a box to see if it at least powers on.
  16. We had something like this in NY once where authorities claimed not to know then reported it as a transformer. They actually knew all along someone went in the woods and set off a very large charge. The hole was huge and they never found out who did it. It was a lot like this event where the travel of the noise made it sound like it occurred closer then it was for many. They thought someone would brag and get caught but that was 1990.

  18. I knew from the beginning this was not about a simple question but rather trying to roll out an agenda. This person knew the answers and was simply looking to bait the conversation.
  19. My niece was born to the minute, 24 hours after my grandmother passed
  20. Lots in business journals this week, they tanked because their CEO went with his gut and ignored data. As we say in the data world, in God we trust, all others bring data. I went in at Christmas, none of the usual sock, pajama or other items I usually can find there were not available. There were lots of end cap displays with over priced items and I read they put those in all stores, not just a test market. PS This should be the final nail in their coffin unless a major investor steps up
  21. I agree, these folks knew what hey wanted and had experience or someone guiding them. It just stinks there are idiots out there, you should be able to have a nice little business and life is good. Instead you have to be a computer expert and spend resources on security. I thought about a consulting business for small firms but I learned years ago many are flying by the seat of their pants and don't want to spend money on being proactive. It would be easy to come up with a hardware/software/human solution fairly cheap. Since they are small most don't need outrageous priced automation, they need
  22. Who regulates accountants? It seems to me like they need a gov't agency to come in and see what happened, why and what is the liability and who is responsible for contacting those affected. In most cases those that created the data breach pay for credit lock programs for the next 10 years and they have to show a game plan on how this does not happen again. If I were this accountants I.T. person I would be very proactive as it looks better when fines are determined if you actually did something. Next I would ask myself why was I dumb enough to leave this data so easily accessible. 2 removable d
  23. I was on a dating site and found most lie so bad on those and use pictures 10 years old. I thought one date went great, the next day she complained to me about my profile being a lie. She told me to change it from, "like John Holmes" to "humble white guy"
