  1. All the way to downtown Hiram. He says if you can to find another route.
  2. I have been thinking about Lori Paul a lot. I am not sure if everyone remembers her. She is the wife of a fireman, they have 4 children and own a small carpet cleaning company. Lori had a very large tumor behind her eye that was also invading her brain. Lori's insurance would only pay for her to have a procedure were they opened her skull and went through her brain to remove the tumor. They knew for a fact she would suffer deficit when the tumor was removed, the possibility of her never being able to take care of her kids was a huge possibility. Lori had found a doctor to do a surgery go
  3. I wanted to respond to this Mr. Heath acknowledged me with a hello as I was going through the door. Before the meeting he came up shook my hand and said hello. I definitely give him credit for having proper decorum in public. I think that it is very important that we all practice that especially when it comes to politics. I have always shown him and his wife respect when we are out in public, he is the sitting senator and I am old fashioned about those things. He knows I don't agree with him on everything, and I am sure he probably believes the rumors that I am a democrat and disagree with
  4. I have the video, I am still thinking it over whether to post it or not. If you have read the mail from either candidate you pretty much know what was said by Heath. I have 3 concerns that make me want to post it. The disclaimer that Heath knows nothing about the pac that paid for the mailers, that he can't get any info from the secretary of state on the ethics complaint and the persistent rumor that the Teaparty signed up candidates for the liberal group backing the lobbyist gift limits. He did however create his own document to limit his acceptance of lobbyist gifts and signed it in fron
  5. People wonder what has happened to America, we are convinced that the pie is so small that every crumb should be fought over. We are the ones that made the pie and the world began to eat it. We are now convinced it is almost gone by people that want us to believe that the resources are shrinking. These people drill for oil, dig for coal and turn corn into gasoline. They starve the brilliant people that we once gave fertile ground to and allowed them to do great things. There was a time that we welcomed immigrants to this country to work to make us a greater nation. We have come to the point
  6. I am not fond of the lottery, it places the profitability of business above the purpose of the lottery to fund education. The casinos will do the same. I inquired about the lottery the percentages of what education gets are inflexible. The board of regents frequently raise tuition and cost of education goes up every year. I don't like the answer that we will make the same deal casino's to make up the deficit. I don't care what anyone says gambling is a vice and in most area were they are you have an illegal industry that evolves to serve any all vices (while in Rome) we will lose more money t
  7. I am trying to connect the dots here. I don't have much to go on as we don't regularly tape these meetings. ( Just so Anon and others know Pubby and I are stretched thin) Under the new sunshine laws anyone can tape those meetings and post them here on the county wide news and we would even assist with the upload) As far as audits go our government and any one that does business with them should be an open book. I have no issue with well educated people being paid what they are worth JJ, you get what you pay for. It looks to me as though a lot of money has been spent on capitol improvement
  8. Will still watch were I am walking up here, wasn't there a story about a man that stumped his toe on one of the biggest nuggets ever found
  9. What does that have to do with anything, the owner of this site is not running for office or making any of the decisions. As far as I know every commissioner is a business owner and owns a home and some own land. Their taxes go up too. Do you think the government exempts liberals from taxes? Of course one is a liberal these days if they dare to acknowledge that they actually see any tangible benefits from tax dollars. Funny how you never hear companies whine about what they pay to lobby, only about the taxes, spending money to unfairly persuade our representatives to legislate for them an
  10. Let Kay know those were some of the best fried green tomatoes I have ever had!!!
  11. I think we both made our point very well How the hell would I know what your fair market value is going to do? Some went up... some went down. The BOC has no control over fair market value, as it's assessed by the BOA. That is the job of the assessors office that sets that value based on criteria from the state and has no influence from the BOC.
  12. You are talking about our local government, the one that we know close up and personal. The people we can pick up the phone, write an email to or walk up to in the grocery store. No person running for the BOC in this county can promise you anything but that they will do their best. They have to vote on most things. Some of it is always going to be unpopular. You don't lose anything when you admit that they are doing a pretty good job with what they have been handed in a recession.
  13. The county and the employees are going through the same thing as the rest of the population. They cut their budget just like you did, they are doing without just like you are. They prevented the loss of more income to serve you. You can still pick up the phone and call 911, you can still go to the hospital if you are penniless and have your life saved. Your water is still clean, your children can still go to school. They are taking furlough days and less pay, they are paying more for their insurance just like everyone else. They pay more for gas to get to work just like you do. You act like
  14. You are right, if my property value goes up this year and the rate stays the same I will pay more next year. I just assumed that everyone understood that without all the clarification. If your value went down you will pay close to or less than you paid last year. But to say across the board that we will all pay more taxes is not the truth. When you use the word pay you are talking about a currency exchange. You may or may not exchange more currency with the tax rate hike. Those of us that truly understand that are informing people that they more than likely will not pay more this year th
  15. All those things simply show that we all have different views based on personal experiences. I honestly am not sure if my actual pay out will be a little more than last year because I have not received it yet. I know that the value of my home went down again. Considering what I have paid for my home since I bought it, including the interest and maintenance,I have lost close 200,000 dollars since the market crashed. My tax assessment makes me want to throw up a little. People that had a 200,000 dollar house with 10 or more years of payments may have lost as much as 500,000. I would have
  16. Your welcome to say anything you want on here, but when I know for a fact that it is not how you say it is, I am going to speak up so is Pubby and anyone else that knows different or has a different perspective. Your not being squashed, it's called debating and discussion. But if you think everyone should take your word on every issue then that is your problem. You state your opinion and others have a different opinion, but they don't do anything to stop you from posting it.
  17. I have it completely straight, based on my assessment I would have paid less in property taxes this year. The millage rate as in my taxes went up, because of that I will be paying the same as last year, maybe a bit more because of the fire tax. I am not the least bit confused about any of it. I understand that I have to pay for these things, the roads I drive my car on, the school I send my kids to. The judicial system that protects and serves me. I also understand all the other departments why they are there and what they do. I understand that I have friends and neighbors that work for th
  18. You are wrong, you would have paid less taxes because the value of our property had gone down again. They cut as much as they could looked at what the reports from the fire department, the sheriffs department and other operations. They ask them to cut their budgets to the bone and still be able to function. They get a report with the projected amount of tax income. It is projected, businesses could close open over the year so they have to have some room. If we are still short when all these add up they have no choice but adjust the millage and fire tax. We don't allow taxpayers invest
  19. Actually it served a good cause, now folks know that unless they click private on gallery images others can see and they show up on our forum page. It's all good
  20. You might try to be patient, as the new folks need to get their feet up under them. I was talking to friend today about when people have a problem with something that everyone clearly sees is wrong, they want folks to act like a dictator. The bottom line is that some things could have been done wrong, it may not have been clear that they were being done wrong at the time they were done. It is a little late to shut the barn door after the horses are out. My understanding is that there is no need for a witch hunt, but to look at things and go about doing them correctly from here on out.
  21. thank you Miss Sophie, if you only knew how badly I needed that chuckle after the week I had. here is a bewbie hug.
  22. I believe she had good reason for what she did, these contracts are up for review every year.
