  1. Yes. Jan 2013 I went to Paulding hospital with extreme abdominal pain. The ER doctor wanted to do emergency surgery on my colon as I was diagnosed with diverticulitis. The surgery would have required me to wear a temporary colonoscopy bag for 3-6 mos. We asked that I be transferred to Kennestone where my kidney doctors are. The ER doctor said he would see if a Kennestone surgeon would accept me. Dr. Memark did and I was transferred. But, after he reviewed my records he determined my body could not withstand the surgery. He said as a surgeon he would love the opportunity to do my surgery but it
  2. THE Farmer John's in the parking lot of the service station at 120/92. Years ago he was at 92S/Hiram Sudie but moved to the location at 120/92. He has been there for years. Initially both locations were called Farmer Johns but I'm not sure if he is still affiliated with the one on 92 South or not. We hope to get to the Farmer's Market at 3:00 on Thursday to get some homegrown veggies. We've gotten there after all the veggies were sold out previous weeks.
  3. I do not eat potato salad therefore I do not make it. I am a "sampler" as I cook so if I don't like to eat it I can't sample it. DH enjoys going to friends homes for cook-outs that have it homemade and he will occasionally order it when we eat out. He is deprived. I have NEVER bought a jar of Miracle Whip in my life. And, the only mayo that is brought into our house is Hellman's Light.
  4. What I am finding REALLY STRANGE is I am not seeing several comments that I made yesterday in this thread??? Some of you even commented on my comments and I don't see those either. Do y'al see them???? ETA: When I go to "My Content" it shows I've been active in this thread.
  5. Audry, Do you still send out the email with the weekly menu? I used to get it every Monday but haven't gotten one in a long time.
  6. Thoughts and prayers are with you and the family, Thad. Praying for the surgical team and all who will be taking care of you in the hospital. It's good Louise and Omar are here to help Melissa once you get home. If y'all need ANYTHING my number is in my signature and we are just down the road. Hoping for a complete and speedy recovery so you will finally have some relief from the pain and be more mobile.
  7. Whatever was "found" in the father's office appears to have prompted the investigation to go in a totally different direction. Reports Friday stated the preliminary autopsy report would be available yesterday. This is speculation but it is possible the autopsy showed Conner did not die from anything heat related and was dead before the father put him in the car. IF so that opens up the question IF the mother was somehow involved? Regardless it is a SAD, SAD situation that hs touched family, friends and strangers.
  8. We went to a few yard sales in the Acworth area this afternoon and on the way home stopped by our close friends home in Alatoona Bay. After a couple hours visiitng we drove to IHOP in Cartersville for breakfast for dinner. Great food and fellowship.
  9. As HORRIBLE as the thought of a parent forgetting a baby in a hot car and it smothers to death the TRUTH in this case may end up being much, much worse!! I can't get the link to attach. But, the info is on CNN.com.
  10. That is a typical response and I admire you for knowing your limitations. I couldn't foster either. People (and foster parents) use to tell me they didn't know how I did the job I did and that they couldn't do it. I would tell the foster parents that I couldn't do what THEY do. To give 110% of your heart and soul to a child, staying up with it all night comforting it's fears, wiping the millions of tears because they think they are the ones that did something wrong or do not understand WHY they can't go home. Being awakened several times a night to nightmares or night terrors. (if you never ex
  11. That is VERY true. I spent a LOT of my time trying to find just a bed for these "children with baggage" much less the right placement for them. But, not everyone is cut out to be foster parents. At one time in my career I licensed/trained couples to be foster parents. Although these people had huge hearts and WANTED to help there was a 40% drop out rate by half way through the 8 week training course. With that said, I would love to see more people consider and look into opening their hearts and homes to these children who desperately NEED them.
  12. I am hopeful there will be changes made for the good with the new DFCS director. The purpose of DFCS in the past was to keep families together and reunification once they were removed from the home. This was often done against the argument of the case worker and not always in the best interest of the child. (Obviously) I heard the Governor say last week that agenda has been changed to protection of children. DUH???????? You hit the nail on the head momof3!!!
  13. Last night we had spaghetti meatsause & meatballs, salad and garlic bread. Our 11 yr old neighbor came home from a week at DARE camp. One of two out of 500 Paudling County students chosen to go. This was a huge accomplishment bc he has Asperger Syndrome. So, he got his favorite meal for homecoming. It was also his sister's 13th birthday so we had Publix birthday cake for dessert. Tonight was onion pita stuffed with shaved rare roast beef dipped in au' jus topped with shredded lettuce, chopped tomato, mayo and balsamic vinaigrette. Lays potato chips.
  14. I don't eat chicken salad but will make it for DH when I boil chicken for casseroles, chicken 'n dumplins, etc I will hold out some chicken and chop with small diced onion, apple, kosher pickles, mayo, salt and pepper. This afternoon we drove over to Kennesaw to eat veggies at Whistle Stop Cafe only to get there after they closed. So, we went next door to Tom+Chee which is as it implies a grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup restaurant. They were featured on Shark Tank. We got their Tom+Chee Special and a Build Your Own with mozzarella, cheddar, roast beef and tomato on sourdough with
  15. Yesterday afternoon/evening was wonderful!!! Low Country Boil with 17 of our family and closest and dearest friends. 12 lbs shrimp, 8 lbs Kielbasa sausage, 24 mini Corn on the Cob, 10 lbs Red Potatoes and seasoned to perfection. Dessert: Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream Key Lime Pound Cake YUMMMMMMMMMMM
  16. Soon after it happened while at some friends house near the Whitlock Kroger they got a call re: the shooting. In confirming which Kroger it was our friend asked "the Kroger at Whitlock or the Kroger at the Avenues?" I didn't think anything about it being identified by the Avenues because that is where it is. Both of those Krogers could be identified as being on 120 or could to me. I agree nothing is funny about someone being desperate and feeling shooting themselves and someone else is the answer. So sorry for family members who have lost one and possibly two family members. At the very le
  17. Let me add: years ago we had a friend who was the pharmacist at WM. He said every week the pharmacy has one islt where everything on that isle the company loses money on. Why? It is a marketing ploy. A customer picks up a couple of things they know to be cheaper than the drug store or other places and the brain responds "IF these are this much cheaper than so and so, then every thing in the store must be cheaper". The isle changes every week. Interesting that they play games like that all over the store. Have you ever noticed that the smiley face showing markdowns goes up and down constantly?
  18. I can't believe people still think Wal-Mart is the cheapest way to shop. DH and I tried for years to convince DD that WM was not the cheapest and she wouldn't even try other stores. She had been brainwashed by the millions of dollars WM spends to convince the American public with their marketing. FINALLY she started sale shopping going to Publix for the BOGO deals, Kroger for the 10 for 10 and sales and Food Depot for meats. It is time consuming but when buying for a family of 7 it is necessary. I was tickled about 2 months ago when she called to tell me she actually understood that WM
  19. I didn't realize they didn't. When did they stop? YES.......Let me say again YES!!!
  20. WOW. We were by that area this afternoon and I would have loved to have stopped by. Hope to remember next Thursday.
  21. I knew where to go when I walked in the door and it was on Breaking News on WSB-TV. I will be checking back for updates. Prayers for all involved and the families. My heart goes out to everyone.
  22. I was thinking the same thing as some of you. Our youngest DGD had her 10th birthday last Monday, Memorial Day. On Tuesday we took her, our 13 yr old DGD and their 12 year old friend to Folks. The 10 year old ate the BBQ ribs meal on the FREE childs menu, half of my mac & cheese, several corn nuggets and a chicken tender from each her sister and friend. That child LOVES to eat and her Pop and I LOVE to watch her eat. She throroughly enjoys food.
  23. Yes she is doing well. I purchased a Zen she did for me to give as a birthday gift. She's been doing some beautiful work she post on FB. She and I talk about it and our furbabies.
