  1. I cancelled Comcast a while back. I was looking at the different types of antennas available online. I saw that some are flat and can hang on the wall. Some look more like the large old style antennas. I have attic space so that is one option. What type works best in our area? What channels can I expect to get with a good antenna?
  2. Its supporters: Who Supports Meatout? Meatout draws massive support from a broad cross-section of groups and individuals. Supporters include animal, environmental, public interest and consumer protection advocates; health care providers, educators, meat-free food manufacturers and retailers; mass media, public officials and celebrity entertainers. Supporters are deeply concerned about the devastation to consumer and environmental health wrought by intensive meat production and consumption. Meatout not only promotes better food choices, but also supports a positive future for the pl

  4. David Arquette told Oprah that he drank beer at age 4. It was one of his earliest memories: (CBS) In his first interview since leaving rehab last month, David Arquette is sharing details about his battle with alcohol and the intervention that led him to seek treatment. In the interview, the actor tells Oprah Winfrey that he tried his first beer when he was just 4 years old. He recalled, "I was down in the basement with my dad and the beer was there and I just grabbed it and drank it. I remember that. It's one of my earliest memories." "I seriously started drinking probab
  5. Have you hear about The Great American Meatout? It's March 20, 2011. It's an annual event: Meatout is an international observance helping individuals evolve to a wholesome, compassionate diet of fruits, vegetables, whole grains. The purpose is to expose the public to the joys and benefits of a plant-based diet, while promoting the availability and selection alternatives to meat and dairy in mainstream grocery stores, restaurants, and catering operations. Meatout has grown explosively since its inception in 1985 to become the world's largest annual grassroots diet education campaign.

  7. Thanks for sharing your experiences. These conditions are getting more attention in the media now, and researchers are looking at better ways to treat them.
  8. There's quite a bit of interest in CTE. Injuries to young athletes is one concern: In recent days, other National Football League players have been contacting Nowinski asking about CTE, what they can do to help the center conduct its research, and how they might ward off the condition, Nowinski said. "They are recognizing this is a serious issue with serious consequences," he said. Although CTE can be diagnosed only during an autopsy, living athletes can participate in studies in which researchers collect DNA samples and then contact the athletes once a year to administer cognitive
  9. I didn't know anything about the connection until I read your post. Thanks for helping educate us concerning CTE. I remembered it when I heard about the recent death of Dave Duerson: The recent and tragic suicide death of former Chicago Bears player, Dave Duerson, due to a gunshot wound to the chest, shines the light on a progressive degenerative disease of the brain found in boxers, football players and other athletes with a history of repetitive brain trauma. The disease is called chronic traumatic encephalopathy. Dave Duerson, in a text message to loved ones, asked that his bra
  10. How do you view humor? This article is about humor "styles," and how humor can be healthy in some cases---destructive in others: What's Your Humor Style? Are you a joker? A teaser? A clown? How you deploy your sense of humor says a lot about how you relate to others and to yourself. By Louise Dobson, published on July 01, 2006 - last reviewed on February 23, 2011 In today's personality stakes, nothing is more highly valued than a sense of humor. We seek it out in others and are proud to claim it in ourselves, perhaps even more than good looks or intelligence. If someone h
  11. I see more and more people acting like another person's property is their's to use as they please. I'm not sure where the idea came from. I think they know it's a crime, but they just don't care.
  12. What is it? I clicked continue and then run. It was taking a really long time, and I never saw what it was.
  13. I was searching for a chocolate flax seed muffin recipe and found this one. I haven't tried it yet, but has a lot of good reviews. Does anyone have a favorite chocolate muffin recipe that uses flax seed? Here's the one I found: http://allrecipes.com//Recipe/irresistible-double-chocolate-muffins/Detail.aspx
  14. I'd like to try your Veggie lasagna. What time are you lunch specials served?
  15. People are responsible for having boundaries in their lives. Boundaries do work in many cases, but not all---or else criminals would stop when they encountered a locked door. The way people treat others seems to be more complex than just the way someone teaches people to treat them. It can be a factor and in some cases it may be a major factor, but I don't see it being the only factor. Edited to fix typo.
  16. BeatBoxinGranny47, please remember you ASKED. I have written for various publications; regional and national magazines and newspapers. They have all paid me for my writing. When they publish one of my articles there is a byline that says By (my name). Sometimes at the end there is a short bio that says something along the lines of "The writer..." I hope that answers your question.
  17. CaptainOblivious, do you begrudge books for having separate chapters instead of lumping everything together? As a writer, I sometimes see a need to add a separate post to a thread. To me it's similiar to writing another chapter...

  19. Harry Chapin had a heart for the stop hunger movement. His daughter, Jen is carrying on some of the work started by her father. Other people have other causes that they feel passionate about.
  20. She is also active in the movement to stop hunger: WhyHunger (formerly known as World Hunger Year, or WHY) is an organization that seeks to address the root causes of hunger and poverty. WhyHunger was founded in 1975 by folk singer Harry Chapin, a social activist who was as well known for his humanitarian efforts as for his guitar ballads, and 95.5 WPLJ New York,[1] legendary radio D.J. Bill Ayres. Its Board of Directors is currently chaired by Jen Chapin. WhyHunger is convinced that solutions to hunger and poverty can be found at the grassroots level... http://en.wikipedia.org/wik
