  1. WHAT!!!! I've changed my opinion of you again. lol. Tell your 16 friends to get to the game on time. (And how much do you charge for this service? I am always ashamed to save more than one or two seats...)
  2. Hahaha. Every parent will have their comeuppance. Kids will always find a way to make an a$$ out of us. 90% of parents are doing a great job juggling working/family/responsibility. The other 10% let their 15 year old date a 20 year old and then wonder what the heck happened and try to sue somebody. (The school, in this case, might be sued. I looked at a local high school's handbook. It didn't have a provision for a high school student leaving school like they do for elementary students, except when they are signed out early. I guess they can leave with anybody they want...)
  3. Mmm. Only it would be Corona Light and the sandwich would have to be on super fresh, soft, Sunbeam bread. Bockmist Firlefanz Schmarrn (in place of all the innumerous dialect words) Kladderadatsch Larifari Mumpitz Schmonzes, Schmoo (Yiddish) (source: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=523511) Not sure if they are accurate, never needed more than one way to say it.
  4. Same here. Everybody should register Libertarian. Cuts down on political mailings and you can still vote how you want. Wonder where they got their information? And you could call bull$#!^ in more than one language.
  5. Dang. I heard all the North mamas are on those lose-weight-and-still-be-able-to-drink-at-LaBamba's-shots. (Sorry, being evil and stirring the pot. Have heard it, though. Know a few, in fact. )
  6. Is this "friendly rivalry" getting a little out of control? Sorry, have to blame the coaches on this one. They are in charge of the players and should have clear expectations of behavior in place BEFORE the kids get on the bus.
  7. That's all true. Kids make very bad decisions sometimes. That's why we limit when they can drive, vote, drink, etc. Somebody has to be in charge, though. Circumstances make that harder for some parents, BUT it doesn't change the fact. The boy in question graduated from that same school in 2008. All the girl's parent had to do was either look at a yearbook or call his parents to see how old he was. Who lets a kid go somewhere with people they don't know? That is just crazy to me. It is slack parenting. We are all just used to it now. Kids have the right to be raised in a safe and loving en
  8. Ehh. I know it sounds like I was bragging, but that isn't intentional. Being responsible for everything all of the time sucked sometimes and was hard, tiring, and scary and wasn't my first choice. I understand how people lose control of their children, I just don't like it. People are too eager to make excuses for their kids because of their own deficits. I knew when I messed up, and so did my kids. It didn't matter that I was young, poor, alone, and undereducated. They were MY kids, my responsibility, my reward. I just can't get over the age thing. I'm probably inflexible with things like
  9. www.voterfactory.com/voters-GA-Dallas.html I'm not sure I'm comfortable with this information being readily available online. It seems to list your party of choice and lists your partial street address. I did look up a few of my friends, though, to make sure we can still be friends. Are you listed? Is the informatin correct? Do you care if the rest of us can see it?
  10. Nope. Mine had parttime jobs at 15 (and played sports, and school clubs like drama). They were busy with the right things and didn't have as much of a chance to do the wrong things. By 15, mine were mostly raised. They knew what they could get away with and what would drop the hammer. They still don't curse in front of me and they are grown. I STILL can ask them to take something off of their facebook page and they will out of respect (and out of love, by looking at it with my perspective). They grew up to be kind and decent. I know they aren't perfect, but they operate within acceptable
  11. Lol. Yeah, I had to read that twice. You were automatically forgiven when I saw your signature. Anybody who liked Mitch Hedberg is OK with me.
  12. i raised mine myself and put myself through college during that time. They were 2 and 3 when I ended up on my own. I am not from here and didn't have family. I always worked more than one job. I kept mine at home (with a sitter when they were little) or busy with sports most of the time unless I knew the other kids, and parents of the other kids, mine were associating with. If I heard a breath of a slack parent, mine didn't go there again. You would be surprised at how many of our local parents supply their kids (and their friends) with alcohol or let them run wild. Mine knew early on that I d
  13. Sexual abuse pretty much trumps everything. You can't polish this turd.
  14. None of these are even close to acceptable. There is no good reason for a 20 year old to be involved with a 15 year old. The law, and child protective services, would back up my opinion. If you know where your 15 year old is, and who she is with, things like this don't happen. If she is a horribly manipulative child, then she should be dropped off at school, picked up from school, and stuck at home the rest of the time. If her parents had no idea, that speaks to how involved they were with her. There is just no excuse I can think of for this to happen. People need to stop trying to und
  15. The problem (as I see it) begins with a 20 year old dating a 15 year old. WTH? And please, if you are the angry mother of the 20 year old here in Dallas, please don't bother justifying the behavior. It doesn't matter if your son has the mentality of a 13 year old or if he was only driving 35 MPH at the time. Does anybody have parents anymore?
  16. I'll take the bullet or suspension in defense of free speech (which usually isn't my bag, funny how tables turn). You accused me. I wasn't being mean. I was being truthful. If that pissed people off, they really need to question WHY another point of view makes them so angry. It is just words. What I did DIDN'T HURT ANYBODY. In fact, I was trying to save lives. I saw where certain family members visited my profile, I'm sure to look up my posts so they could complain about it. Instead of board admins telling them that people have different opinions on things, they chose to call me out pu
  17. How dare you accuse me of personalizing an attack when THAT IS WHAT THE THREAD WAS ABOUT and then lock the topic before I can defend myself about the accusation. No kidding that if a thread is about a certain incident, that is what the replies will be in relation to. If you read my posts (without your victimization glasses), I said Fox5 lied. If you really want to split hairs, the rest of us get our information from a certain poster who is a "friend" of the family that wants to inject herself into every tragedy by posting personal information the rest of us don't know. Oh, and blame of
  18. I'm taking my shark steamer with us on vacation. The thought of bedbugs and people sitting naked on bedspreads freaks me out. If I really start thinking hard (all the butts that have been on the toilet and all the feet that have been in shower), I would never take a vacation. We wear flip flops in our room.
  19. I hate to correct you, and I really am not a race-sensitive type person and usually avoid these discussions, BUT I think you are confused. Stereotypes can be a form of racism, but don't have to be. Depends on what you say. The statement you posted above most certainly IS a racist comment. If I said "All men would hump a rock to see what is underneath", that is a sexist stereotype. If I said "All Democrats are uneducated", that would be a political stereotype. If I said "Most white people don't understand the difference between ethnocentrism and racism", that would be the truth. lol. Et
  20. Nope, I meant what I said. EtymologyFrom French racisme (1935/36). Racism 1.The belief that each race has distinct and intrinsic attributes. 2.The belief that one race is superior to all others. 3.Prejudice or discrimination based upon race. If you make a blanket statement about the characteristic of a particular race, it is racism. I didn't say it was intentional racism or prejudice or hate speech. I was just educating people who do this type of thing without malice. A lot of people don't understand that it IS a form of racism (including you, I guess). They think they are co
  21. The same guy that filed the complaint with the ACLU (Afghanistan veteran) also plans to file another complaint about a statue at the memorial depicting a soldier next to a cross. Please refer me to the case law that includes cities in the 14th amendment. Good history lesson. I saw that Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina did not wish to be included in the 14th and had to be forced by the Supreme Court.
  22. This is my hot button issue of the month. I see it everywhere lately. All it takes is one person bitching and threatening to sue and we ALL have to bow to their singular wishes. The Constitution surely didn't intend that to be the case. America: Where every man can be a king (if they bitch and threaten to sue).
