  1. YEAH!!! YEAH!!!!! YEAH!!!!!! :yahoo: If you use one of the priority boxes from the post office, that will be your cheapest way for something this heavy. Thank you!!! And CO - it doesn't have to be NEW bars. It can be pieces of old bars, travel sized bars, etc. I'm thinking of trying to go to the Holiday Inn here in town and seeing if I can get them to save me the partially used soaps out of rented rooms for a week, instead of throwing them out. Your welcome! I think it's a great cause. Cool. Enjoy! Please do! Here's anothe
  2. The glaring difference is that Danny Glover is an actor, an entertainer from Hollywood. Pat Robertson is a religious leader of the protestant Christian faith, with a multitude of followers, and an impact with those followers. And for the record, I don't agree with either of their opinions.
  3. I so hope these two young people are found. Sad!
  4. I've not been hurt by Pat Robertson personally. However, I've encountered plenty of people who think like he does, and feel just as righteously emboldened in those beliefs as he does. I think it's all an interesting and though provoking topic myself. Not saying that at all.
  5. Yet, Momof3, Pat Robertson HAS followers. And they rake in the money. We can't simply dismiss him by saying he's not a "true Christian" because what he says makes people uncomfortable. You know what I'm saying? Now, yeah, to me - I agree with you. I think he's a flake and far cry from a "true Christian." Yet I cannot dismiss his voice, the influence he has, nor the fact that he continues to be around in spite of all the stupidity he has voiced. I think there are more people out there in the US who think like this man that some wish to admit, or at least acknowledge. I've encountered m
  6. Well said!!! And part of the points I was getting to yesterday. To simply dismiss Pat Robertson, or Limbaugh, as folks who aren't "figureheads", or "don't speak for me" -- is to dismiss millions of people who whole-heartedly support them both! Yep, yep, yep....
  7. GOOD FOR HIM!!!! I think that was great.
  8. So, how exactly does all of the above apply to Haiti, and the earthquake there Freebird? Thanks in advance for sharing. Because that's what this topic was started to discuss, that's why! No one has questioned in any way (that I've read) the outpouring of aid from around the world to Haiti. This topic was about what people thought about Pat Robertson and the statements he made.
  9. No worries! I chuckled when I saw you reuse the term. Sure thing!
  10. Voudon would be an abomination as far as Christianity is concerned, based upon black-n-white beliefs. They do not share much in the way of core beliefs. And they certainly would be seen by many Christians to be "worshiping evil as if it was good."
  11. Glad my choice of words amused you so much!
  12. Yep, awkward to say the least. I'd rather apply the believe of transmigration myself, and picture him as Dung Beetle next time around.
  13. I can tell you that there are people here in S. GA. who think he is spot on in what he said! It was a recent discussion on a local message board. Some Christians were horrified over their stance, while others said it was biblical. :::shrugs::: Use the word "leader" if figurehead bothers you. Thanks for sharing Madea. I always enjoy reading your opinions and thoughts.
  14. I'm just playing "Devil's Advocate" (pun intended) in this conversation. As a non-Christian, living in an area which is mostly Protestant-Christian, I have a different perspective than many. It's interesting tossing out different ways of looking at it, and talking about parts of people's beliefs which are otherwise uncomfortable to discuss openly. Voodoo is it's "nickname" per say. Voudon/Vodun/Lucumi/Yoruba are more along the actual names of the religion. Here's a base page on Voudon: http://www.religioustolerance.org/voodoo.htm
  15. In short, Voudon absolutely believes in a "higher power", a "higher good." New Orleans is known for being a very occult based city. That's where part of Pat Robertson's commentary before was born from. There is a large number of Voudon, Hoodoo, etc. workers in New Orleans.
  16. True, Protestants don't have a Pope. However, there have been many people seen as "figureheads" per say within Protestant religions. Billy Graham comes to mind. I don't doubt the aid going to Haiti Madea. The fact remains though - how many of those folks praying, and sending money would in actual reality invite a Voudon believing / practicing family / Priest / Priestess into their home, with open arms, with no fear - without a second thought? Natural disasters bring out THE BEST in most people. Most people drop any and all prejudices and seek to help their fellow man - regardless
  17. It's easy to say the above. But in fact, is his belief REALLLLLLY that far out there as far as his faith is concerned? What other places are believed to have been destroyed because they had "turned away from God?" Sodom and Gomorrah anyone? My point is -- is what he is saying *really* that out of line, as far as Christian beliefs are concerned?
  18. Very well said. And essentially, I agree. The problem arises when you have someone who is a very visible, public, powerful/rich figurehead within Christianity. Whether or not the vast majority of people believe exactly like Pat Robertson becomes secondary to the fact that this figurehead is spouting what he's spouting. Plus, let's face it. This guy has been around for as long as he has because he DOES have followers. LOTS of them. They've supported his ministry with tons and tons of money, and continue to do so. We cannot dismiss those facts. Sorta like the Pope. He recently poo-pooed
  19. This is just an example of someone who believes in a jealous and vengeful deity in my opinion. Plus, it illustrates their inability to even attempt to understand a non-Christian faith, which is Voudon within Haiti. I'll have to refrain from using my favorite adjective to describe Mr Robertson. In short, what a moron. Don't you know that God as well as Satan are so many people's absolute favorite scape goats??? Think about it. Something good happens - God did it. Something bad happens - it's either "God's will" or Satan was involved. Then there is the third option of
  20. I have a different autoimmune disease, Sjogren's. And I've been having a HORRIBLE time lately - and I do think it's do to the colder weather.
  21. So very sad. This always seems to happen in the south when we have an extended period of cold weather.
