  1. See, I just like the image I have in my head of Jefferson sitting at his desk with a knife and glue cutting and pasting a Bible together. Brillant!

I'd say it would give a reader a partial look into what Jefferson was about, but not the entire picture. It is very interesting to see what he choose to not include, and to looking into why he did that. Those things certainly give great insight, in my opinion, into the mind of this founding-father. And as for his version of the bible, it's online! ;)

And why would he do such to begin with? I like this excerpt from Wikipedia article on it:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jefferson_Bible

    Intent and Initial Attempt

Prior to the "Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth," Jefferson had made an earlier abstraction of the words of Jesus entitled "The Philosophy of Jesus of Nazareth," the purpose of which he mentions in a letter to John Adams dated 13 October, 1813:

"In extracting the pure principles which he taught, we should have to strip off the artificial vestments in which they have been muffled by priests, who have travestied them into various forms, as instruments of riches and power to themselves. We must dismiss the Platonists and Plotinists, the Stagyrites and Gamalielites, the Eclectics, the Gnostics and Scholastics, their essences and emanations, their logos and demiurgos, aeons and daemons, male and female, with a long train of … or, shall I say at once, of nonsense. We must reduce our volume to the simple evangelists, select, even from them, the very words only of Jesus, paring off the amphibologisms into which they have been led, by forgetting often, or not understanding, what had fallen from him, by giving their own misconceptions as his dicta, and expressing unintelligibly for others what they had not understood themselves. There will be found remaining the most sublime and benevolent code of morals which has ever been offered to man. I have performed this operation for my own use, by cutting verse by verse out of the printed book, and arranging the matter which is evidently his, and which is as easily distinguishable as diamonds in a dunghill."

Jefferson frequently expressed discontentment with this earlier version, however. "The Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth" represents the fulfillment of his desire to produce a more carefully assembled edition.

  2. High school cheerleading is considered a sport.

Regarding the concessions, they need the uniforms, equipment, etc right now. You can't use money you don't have yet.

Is High School cheerleading $ out of pocket since it's not considered an actual athletic sport (like in middle school)? Also, if football was able to keep the money made from gate entrance, concession, spirit items and so forth without having to divide it among all the other athletics then it would be mostly (if not all) self sufficient.
  3. See, I believe you get what you pay for when it comes to haircuts. I have had a $10.00 haircut and, well, it looks like a $10.00 haircut. But, you are right that you can find stylist that will not charge you an arm and a leg for a good cut.

I would not laugh. I am a firm believer in just because you pay a high price for something does not always mean that you get what you pay for. There are stylist out there that do not charge an arm and a leg for a good haircut. I am sure after checking around you will find a good deal and a good stylist.
  4. Well, from what I read, they have the most downloaded songs from imusic and from itunes I don't think their fans have really gone anywhere. Just because their songs are not being played doesn't mean that they don't have fan and people don't appreciate their music.

    Political comments aside......

How smart is it to bash the fans that brought you fame in the first place???

And then they wonder why they haven't been played on most major markets in years??? And they wonder where all of their fans have gone???

Okay, they say they are happy having just a few fans...yeah, right. Whatever makes them feel better I guess.

  5. Just any ole box will do but dress it up by putting Hershey kisses or the little Hershey's bars in the mix. They will melt and make the brownies a gooey, delicious mess.

i just signed up for brownies for the ice cream party in my daughter's classroom on friday.

does anyone have a favorite recipe that they are willing to share?

or even better a favorite box mix?

or even better still a favorite store bought made already to go brownie?

    thanks.

    me :)

  6. I totally agree with you. One on one time being a reward. No thank you. Not to say they aren't great parents but every child deserves one on one time everyday from both their parents.

I saw this too and it made me sad. I thought it was horrible that the older children were made to look after the younger children. That's not why they're there. Those poor kids are going to be so lost, should they ever venture into the real world. I agree with Lesley that with that many children there is no way the parents have enough one-on-one time with any of them. Not only that, but if I remember correctly, one-on-one time with mom and dad was a reward for good behavior. That's so wrong, in my opinion. I'm perfectly content with my one, but I know that I will have one more because I want her to have a sibling. However, another child is a few years off still.
  7. Where is the HD going to be in Powder Springs?

I hate the Hiram HD will all the life in me. HATE IT.

I have heard this for the 3rd time mow, from different people.

    Ready?

LOWES has purchased the land and is forcing out everyone in the old Publix shopping center at 92 and 278.

They will raze the shopping center and build.

I hope it is true, then maybe that dump called Home Depot will clean up it's act, especially wif a new HD opening less than 5 miles away, in Powder Springs.

  8. Well, I have never had a problem picking up a tag for me, my husband or any member of my family in all my years here. I wonder where the problem is because, truthfully, this is the first couple of times I have heard about trouble getting tags.

  9. Save your money and buy a good pair of walking shoes and hit the SCT. That crap is a waste of money and there is nothing "all natural" about it.

A friend of mine is selling Herbalife and wants me to buy some of the weight loss stuff.

Have any of you all used it?? I am very skeptical of this stuff and don't want to waste my money.

Is it better cause it is "all natural"??

    What do you think??

  10. Is this the one kinda behind Brookwood and across the street from Dallas Elementary?

Does anyone know much about this childcare center????

We are looking at new daycare centers and was wondering if anyone used this facility or has any feed back on it!!!

    Thanks

  11.  :o

I swear, this is one of the best posts on p.com in a looong time.

Your problem is you seem to actually care what Arcaidy says. :o

Just treat what he writes the same as you would a child who thinks they know everything. Read with feigned interest, post a pithy comment (if you have one), then move on.

  12. Actually, I applaud the teacher in this case. This one quote from the student really sums it up: "You can say whatever you want but it can get you in trouble," he said.

HENRY COUNTY, Ga. -- A Henry County high school student is facing criminal charges after posting comments about his teacher on the Web site, MySpace.com, reported WSB-TV in Atlanta.

  13. Ah, not all salons have pedicurist that speak in another language!

Due to the Sjogren's Disease that I have my skin does not slough off like it should, and my feet get in really bad shape from time to time. It's not fun. :( So, I'd really like to have a good pedicure done, and would love to just be pampered!

But the thought that they are going to be chatting about how horrible my troll feet are -- well, it keeps me from having more pedicures than I'd like to go and get! I know, I know. Get over it! :)
