  1. Again, some of us were here long before the development started. Not all of us are newcomers....

surepip, I wish you would pull your comment out. I find it quite interesting and would love to see the responses.

I don't understand how those of you who are up in arms about the continued development in this county think it was okay when you moved here for the schools to have another child and the roads to have another car. BUt now that you are here that's enough?

You wanted to be the last one in the county and then close the gates?

  2. Well, that shouldn't be too hard since both the new DOT guy and the new Speaker live in Paulding. ;)

    Hiramgirl,

Money was programmed for Hwy 92 in 2001. I personally watched them put it in the "programming". Speaker Murphy and Senator Nathan Dean were there to make sure it happened. But

A: that was 2001 and not one inch of right of way has been purchased.

B: it was for the northern section of 92

We just got FHA (federal highway administration) to extend the "logical terminus" of this project to Nebo Rd in the last few weeks. Prior to that, it was the Paulding County line. However, having the money programmed does not mean a thing. Because, the State recognized the "critical need" to 4-lane Hwy 92 in 1980. They have programmed money to Hwy 92 many times in the past. ARC only started "programming" money for us in the T I P (State Transportation Improvement Program) in 2002. And to-date, none of that programmed money has come thru. It has been committed, yes, but projects keep getting extended. I was told directly by the head of State DOT that 92 was to be started in 2003. He lied. He also lied to the Speaker of The House at the time. Now that we have a new DOT guy and new Speaker maybe I won't get lied to. But if you think programming money means a road is going to be built, you are wrong.

  3. I called and spoke to a Judy, I think, at the ARC. She told me that the section of 92 all the way to Nebo has already been programmed (not real sure exactly what that means) and that state money ($200,000) in FY 2007 has already been dedicated for preliminary engineering.

BTW-Hiramgirl, the design and planned construction does not include the section of 92 that was addressed by the zoning. The previous terminus of the Federally funded widening was the County line. And it will be around 2012 before that even gets done.

  4. How in the world do you find the time to decorate cakes? Should I have done that all in caps?

I have yet to sell a cake to anyone, but I've auctioned a few on here for fund raisers (which the winners have yet to claim, hint hint soapmom) :)

I'm afraid that if I did it for money it wouldn't be quite as enjoyable.

  5. The only problem I have with cookie cutter homes is that they seem to be the first subdivisions the head south - this just maybe my own prejudice showing though. I just can't imagine those houses on West Hiram Parkway not completely falling down on themselves in a couple of years.

I live in a cookie cutter house. I don't think anyone has a problem with any current house. Well, anyone other than the chairman...
  6. They, being the neighbors, probably had no idea. This isn't like Wolf Creek in Carroll County. These developments aren't noticed in the paper. Plus, how many people here even know about DRI and the Department of Community Affairs?

One item to note - 1113 homes would have to have gone through the state DRI - the state feels the development is in the best interest of the state/region. Where was everyone when this development was under consideration by the state DRI process?
  7. I don't know. I peg DW as someone not very secure in their own faith or someone that feels the need to beat others over the head with his/her own religion as a way to be legit. Overcompensation for past sins? No clue.

    WOW! Thank you!

...But you see, DW's response to my question to L71 adds to the turmoil of discomfort...not that I'm complaining.

If DW's a troll, he a very good one. It pains me to see people actually spending time and effort to post intelligent responses to what he writes, when he's just jerking them around.

On the other hand, it could be that DW is just plain ******; so ****** that it's painful to witness. This coping with DW has advanced to the point that, except for the people on here who actually have to interface with him/her, most everyone has assumed a position on one of these two corners--troll or ******. Being this as it may be, the answer to L71's question is trivial as it will cause pain no matter which answer might be the truth.

  8. Plenty - easily seen by doing a simply search instead of spouting off before you truly know something. I just choose not to engage you. B)

And what have you contributed to any of the religious posts, eh?
  9. I didn't work during the school year nor during the summer because of the cheerleading I was involved in. With such a short time frame to work, I couldn't find a place where they would allow me to work peacemeal; most places wanted a firm committment to days and hours and I couldn't do that. Luckily, my parents undersood and footed the bill for it. I don't think it made me "entitled." BTW, I earned a full college scholarship for cheering.

In another thread I suggested that teens who wanted to raise money to participate in varsity sports

could go out and do odd jobs over the summer to at least help pay part of the costs...

Well I was informed that that is not an option for these teens...

And I have noticed the ever increasing number of teens who have no need for a summer job,

because everything they desire will be provided by the parents...

As a teen I worked every summer from 14-18 and so did all of my friends,

we understood that had to earn the money to buy the extra things that teens want...

(cars, gas, music, movies, clothes, fast food, etc.)

Today's group of teens have been called the Entitlement generation

because of the perception that they deserve to be given what they want without earning it...

    So a few questions...

Will your teen be working this summer ? (regular or odd jobs) Why or why not ?

Do you feel that today's teens have a sense of entitlement ?

Do you feel it is important for teens to earn money themselves to buy "extras" ?

  10. See, I think that went right over his head. I chuckled when DW agreed with that statement because that tends to be his MO around here.

You do realize that applies to you as much, maybe even more, than anyone else
  11. My guess will be that things will get better once a new gym is built. But, these situations are not new. Sometimes, the middle school sports have to move to an elementary school for practice. Everyone has to compete for space and I wouldn't want to be a high school AD because someone's feelings will always be hurt.

Then how about wrestling in this county. Two of our High school don't even have a place to practice. They have to go off campas just to practice. Hiram High school wrestlers had to find their own place last year. Yes the school said they would try to find a place at the school but they would have to share with basketball and cheerleading and volleyball. Well lets see wrestlers have to watch their weight its better for them to practice right after school so when the get home they can study eat a little then go to bed.I am not saying that they work harder then any other sport but it is a little more demanding on their bodys. Second going off campas the school system is putting these young people in danger. They don't give them a bus to get them back and forth to practice they hop in each others car to get there if one gets in a accendent you are looking at about 4 or 5 boys in that car. They build a new field house for the football players and yes I am glad they got one but they already had a place to practice and a place for their equipment but the wrestlers don't why not help them get a small place to practice on campus. Oh I forgot they are not important. same goes for other sports. In this county in the last 4 years wrestling has had 3 to 4 state champs and at least 15 state placers has are football teams done that latley Why punish the sport that is moving forward every year iam sorry these things were on my mind. :(
  12. P.S. That ain't funny, Pointy. Maybe that is why she looks at you like you have three heads.

Every time I get my Driver's License renewed the old bat that types up the forms, asks me "Do you want to be an Organ Donor?"

Every time, I say "No, but I've got an old piano you can have."

Every time, she looks at me like I've got three heads.

Some people just can't take a joke.

  13. This is why I am an organ donor. I would much rather give life to another than have someone make me into a man.

While thinking about the epithets one would leave behind (and yes, contrary to the beliefs of a couple of posters, I do happen to excogitate to great lengths at times) I began to wonder; how many are planning to leave his or her body to science?

I am reading, or I was reading before I left it at a hotel room in Savannah, an intriguing book called STIFF, by Mary Roach. It cronicles the lives of bodies postmordem. There are many uses for these bodies, from testing new ammuntion, to sex-change operations. It's a good book and I plan to get another copy to finish the read.

So, who will be making a mark on our society, even after you're dead?

  14. That is actually the city of Dallas.

If they're in the Hiram city limits, talk to the city about it. They can do their own thing without consulting the county.

Alrighty then. What rules? What do you tighten without threat of legal action? What can you make strict enough to make developers move to Polk and Haralson County?

You don't have to deny anything if you make the rules strict enough to where builders don't what to build...
  15. Dude, I hope you realize that some of us were here before the four lane, my family included. At some point, the leaders of this county will have to realize that more growth is not in the best interest of all Paulding Countians. Quite frankly, you sound like a horse's behind and I hope I don't know you.

I know I will get bashed for my comments but here they are anyway. When YOU moved to Paulding YOUR child was another student adding to the school system. It was OK for you to move in but nobody else is as special as you? Your child didn’t impact the school system? You don’t drive your car on the public roads adding to traffic?

Yes, I am a developer. I know that every house adds to the overcrowding of the school system and adds to the traffic problem. Who do you think pays for the schools? It is the tax payer. The same tax payer who moves into a new house. It is the builder who builds the houses that MUST pay a tax on EVERY LOT they have to the SCHOOL SYSTEM. That isn’t counting the land they donate to the county for schools. The green space they lose for the environmentalist.

I know something must be done but it REALLY gets to me when people cry “ Us 4 and no more “ ( you, your spouse, and 2 kids ) can live here. I bought my first house here 10 years ago and things have really changed over the years. It is part of life.

I understand everyone’s concerns about the schools. If you don’t like how the system it put your kids in a private school. Both of mine are in private school. It isn’t cheap but then my kids aren’t cheap in my eyes. I will do everything I can to give my kids the most I can. I know the public schools have some GREAT TEACHERS but these teachers must follow the same program a crappy teacher uses.

Most teachers in the public system are there because they really want to change a kids life and TEACH but it only takes one bad apple in the class to destroy everything a teacher does. I chose to place my kids in private school where the bad apple can be removed. I pay taxes for my children to attend public school even though they do not. Your kids get to use the money I pay.

OK, I feel MUCH better now. Start throwing things at me now.

  16. Well, a group of coaches tried starting a middle school baseball league via the rec program and was told to stop by the board.

We are about to leave Middle school sports..... But why do the Middle School girls get softball and the middle school boys not baseball? Doesn't seem like a fair system to me....
  17. Most places will open an account for a new school with one or two years to pay the debt off.

let me know what I can do to help LJ :D

Where does the money come from to help "start up"?

I know the school gets {or teachers] get the gate $ right

and a percent goes to the expense's for jersey's, paint for the field, travel exp. for the team to get to away games,

gosh, there is a boat load of exp. goes into it ;)

  18. The only reason is because there is not a male equivalent to cheerleading unless a guy wants to cheer.

Doodlebug is correct. The system really doesn't give any decent money for athletics. It is up to the schools to stay updated or get new items.

I wasn't trying to pick a fight. but if you call the middle school. Cheerleading is NOT considered an athletic sport. I didn't know if it was the same in high school.

    In Middle school
