  1. Sounds good. However, I wonder how many of you use the "slow cooker" liners that came out a couple of years ago. We love them, clean up is Soooooo much easier. Especially for something with cheese in it like this recipe.
  2. Dang, where was this guy when I had my 72 pinto!! I bet it would have worked for my crank open sunroof too!!
  3. Not all of them, just some of them.
  4. Lighting all around and NOTHING on the ground. No rain now for about 3 weeks...
  5. Very Interesting and pertinent questions you raise. I'm curious, let's do the math. (anybody want to check my math, please do) Don't have any numbers from this year, so I'll have to use last year as a guide. I'll use the 1% LOST as a reference since it's listed directly on the tax bill. The Bill states that the LOST reduced the mills needed by the county by 3.080 mills. So, the taxes saved last year for certain homes were: Property..Assessed...Taxes.. Value.....Value......Saved.. $50,000..$20,000....$61.... $100,000..$40,000...$123.... $200,000..$80,000...$246....
  6. Well, I've been talking about getting a HDTV finally and I guess it set off the Tech bug in my dad also. He called this afternoon saying he'd seen a deal (it really is) on a LED LCD 46" TV for $900 at Brand Smart and picked up one. He asked if I'd come over and help him hook it and said not to worry, the Sales guy had sold him all the overpriced cables and extras he needed. Oh boy, I bet he did. So I get there, nice TV, and then look at the receipt on the accessories.... 2 6' MONSTER HDMI Cables - Holy CRAP! $98 APIECE!! 1 MONSTER Power Strip - $88 !!! 1 MONSTER Screen cleaning
  7. Also, New mowers, power equipment, etc that can make the existing workers more efficient (faster) as well as reducing the cost for spare parts and expensive repairs for the equipment they have now. So their will be some general fund cost reducing items covered also. I would prefer myself that they be placed at the head of the list, but can't have everything.
  8. Dunno, I didn't make an official count, but looked like just as many Barnett signs as Crowe signs between Northside Elem and Dabbs Bridge on 61. Jason was wayyyyyyy behind on the count.
  9. Guess we'll see when the campaign disclosures come out. The one thing I know for sure is that I will NOT be voting for anyone that has not released their disclosure no matter how much I like them.
  10. LOL, rumors and opinions, that's all you have? Well, if we're going to talk rumors, I can make some up too: I wonder how many of those "large TONY CROWE" signs were paid for with money from the same developers and "Boss Hog" types that gave us the Jerry Disaster Years? Guess we'll have to take a look at the finance reports when they are filed. Will Mr Crowe be filing his funding report on time? Will Mr. Anavitarte? This should be interesting to see. All having a lot of signs out means is that the money machines are behind that candidate, doesn't have anything to do
  11. In some cases I agree that would make sense. It's actually done in some cases: Right now, for many activities, any out of county people that are using a county program supported by property taxes in the county are charged an out-of-county fee to pay their share. Cobb does this also, I had to pay an additional $25 a year to the CCRC flying club once I moved to Paulding because it was a Cobb owned park. I don't have a problem with that. I FULLY support an impact fee on new housing built that would go towards capital building in the county needed by an increasing population, such as t
  12. I'm undecided on this one also. I see Donovan's years on the police side of law enforcement as a positive. I suspect he knows what it's like to arrest someone and then wait and wait for justice to be done. I would think that this might give him a 'hunger' to get the cases tried that the others might not have. I am leaning toward him at this time, but not totally committed. I have to say that I don't know a lot about Drew's activities, however, I will say that wins/losses in prosecuting a case are not all based on the actions of the DA's office. My wife was on a jury case in Pauldi
  13. From the chart I saw, I believe Cobb has a SPLOST (Special Purpose) and ELOST (Educational). What they don't have is a plain LOST. The Paulding LOST was instituted in 1978 to help reduce the millage rate. All proceeds from the LOST go to the general fund. If you look at your property tax bill from last year, in the lower left corner is the Actual mil rate the county General fund needs, the mils that the LOST paid and the remainder that we see on our Bills. As I recall, it was about 3 mils last year. (from 9.xx down to 6.65) So figuring that both the ELOST and SPLOST bring in t
  14. That fountain is the City of Dallas that has nothing to do with the rest of the county. I asked in the other thread, what specific items do you see in the budget that is "waste"? Ok, you lost me. The old one is expiring and the new one has been modified to meet the higher DOT and PS needs. This SPLOST is totally independent of the last one. The only constant is the county's needs.
  15. They are bees and not Yellow Jackets? Never heard of that. I always poured a quart of gasoline down the Yellow Jacket holes I found after dark when most had returned to the nest. Usually did the trick.
  16. Now wait a minute. Mowing is not a capital item, it is a maintenance item that MUST BE PAID OUT OF THE GENERAL FUND. In fact, its part of the 50% or the general fund that you and *your* commission candidate want to have REDUCED even more!! A little double standard here isn't it? You complain about the lack of services, then complain about having to pay taxes for those services!!! Make up your mind. < Credibility hit -5 >
  17. For the county, those percentages are locked by the vote that was made for the previous SPLOST five years ago. Those voters approved the split. Until the current SPLOST runs out, the split cannot be changed by law. Not sure what rules the cities use for the split, the only thing I remember on the SPLOST vote was the total percentage that goes to the city (based on population or area?). I guess the city councils decide on the internal split, you'd have to ask them why they spent the money as they did. However, it's obvious that the current BOC realizes that the situation is MUCH differ
  18. I would just like to throw out the idea that in this age of overweight kids and adults who spend all their time in front of video games and TV and add to the price of medical care, I would think that it is in society's best interest to make sure that kids have safe places to exercise and play. Team sports also teach a reliance on your team mates and self confidence that can really amaze. I know it has with my kids.
  19. I'd give it a little while (you may have done that already) Some freezers go into a self defrost mode where the compressor shuts down for a while on it's own, then cranks back up.
  20. Ours jumped to $319.. not sure what happened, but we have to figure it out. On top of that, had a $195 water bill, had to have pool liner replaced and tried to get some grass to grow. Of course, since then the rain quit completely, we haven't have a soaking rain here in 2 weeks, the storms go north and south of us.
  21. I believe the BOC realizes this point above. That is why the percentage going to P&R has been cut considerably (50%?) compared to the last time (down to 17% I read?) and the percentage upped going to DOT and Public Safety. They are giving P&R just enough to keep going. The wish list is just in case the county happens to pull out of this economic mess Washington has left us with. Even if it passes, don't hold your breath waiting for anything new to open, they will be hard pressed to keep up with what there is already for a while.
  22. Wow. First I've heard of this recall, thanks.
  23. I talked with one contractor and he told me the BS and paperwork as well as the biased bids in Paulding are such a pain in the rear he doesn't even both trying for Paulding county government work any more.
