I think it would help in situations to make them be accountable, and possibly deter from making bigger mistakes in the future. -

Imagine being a man in Smyrna driving a white van last night. -
So yesterday a 13 year old girl went "missing" in Smyrna. The media got the word out immediately. When talking to the police, the girl claimed that she had been abducted by a man in a white van, and taken to a basement where she was kept until she was able to escape. It turns out the abduction was a lie. Should she be charged for giving false statements to police? A week or so ago three adults in Cherokee County were charged with a felony for making a false police report.
