  1. I have been told the Grogans Store Building will be moved to a different location :-)
  2. Speaking of snow.... when is the Board of Edu. going to let Paulding teachers and parents know about make up days from our last weather related events? Being able to plan would be nice.
  3. Glad to see that there will be flexibility in the crct testing. If we don't make up the days we really need to push back the crct. The kids are two weeks behind on standards. If they don't push back the test, the kids need to make up at least some of those missed days.
  4. Wish we could find out soon. Son has been studying for tests that will remain on schedule for Friday. If we won't be back for a week, I would like to give him a reprieve today.
  5. North Paulding/Cedarcrest Area has seen heavy snow and sleet most of the morning. Currently there is a light winter mix. Although roads are passable there have been reports of slick areas and accidents.
  6. To the older gentleman that lives across from Paulding Meadows (I think off Northside Church Rd) who offered me a warm place to stay and food ... thank you. Thankfully I made it home (5 hours later). I know all across this county people opened their homes and their cars to many a stranded driver.
  7. Cedarcrest Rd in North West Paulding. Kids are still at Shelton, Burnt Hickory, McClure, and North Paulding. Lots of neighbors helping with 4 wheelers but cars everywhere.
  8. Good snow shower off Cedarcrest in North West Paulding:-)
  9. Cobb County Closing early as well: https://www.facebook.com/CobbCountySchools
  10. Looks like the DOJ and the Department of Education are looking different at zero tolerance.... at least based on race. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2014/01/10/education-experts-blast-obama-administration-call-for-race-based-punishment/?intcmp=latestnews "The memo, jointly released by the departments of Justice and Education on Wednesday, urges public schools to ditch so-called "zero tolerance" policies the feds claim disproportionately affect minority students. The letter, which was sent to all public schools, said even well-intentioned policies are discriminatory if they end up being app
  11. I would at the very least call the health department in Pigeon Forge and also whatever governmental department regulates rentals in TN and file reports.
  12. North Paulding -21 Paulding - 0 End of First. Dont have east vs south.... sorry
  13. Accident at the soccer field curve. Car missed the curve and flipped. I think everyone is alright but cops were only letting one lane go through at a time
  14. Dabbs Bridge is really close to Cobb and Bartow.
  15. There are actually two funds set up. You can go to the link above and get the contact information of the lady who is handling that particular fund. I know she is in close contact with the funeral home. All funds will go to pay any remaining funeral expenses, tombstone, etc. and I believe any remaining funds after that will go to a trust for the sister. I think all the services have already been planned:-( It will be at Williamson's Mortuary in Riverdale GA next week.
  16. Tonight (10/17) our community plans on coming together to raise funds for Eric Forbes a former Shelton Elementary student who was a 6th grader at McClure Middle. Eric was an energetic sixth grader with a love for football who died tragically this past weekend from suspected severe child abuse. The following locations will have events and fundraisers tonight: ~Crossroads Grille: fundraiser and raffle for some great donations made by local companies including a membership to Governors Gun Club ~Cedarcrest Pizza Shack: In memory of Eric Forbes, the Pizza Shack will donate a percentage of Thursd
  17. "Meanwhile, the unemployment rate fell to 7.3%, but the decline came for the wrong reasons, as 312,000 people dropped out of the labor force. Only 63.2% of Americans now participate in the labor force -- meaning they have a job or are looking for one. That's the lowest rate since August 1978." http://money.cnn.com/2013/09/06/news/economy/august-jobs-report/index.html?hpt=hp_t2
  18. The elementary school that I volunteer at has this system in place already and has for several years. Pubby is correct in what the system is checking for. All parents who would like to enter the building past the receptionist must enter their name and date of birth during sign in. It then asks where you will be in the building. The system prints out a name badge and guests are required to wear it. Upon exiting the building, you also must sign OUT. I think this is a good way of allowing the school to track who is in their building as well.
  19. This was a domestic/hostage situation that ended when the husband committed suicide.
  20. I wasn't talking about federal spending. I was just responding to those who think that charter schools are only for the wealthy suburbanites. The stats I was posting say the opposite.
  21. "Because they (Charter Schools) tend to be located in urban areas, charter schools serve a relatively higher percentage of minority and low-income students. Nationally, roughly 43 percent of charter school students are eligible for the federal free or reduced-price lunch program, compared with 40 percent in non-charter schools. In the 2009-2010 school year, charter schools nationally had a student body that was 56 percent black and Hispanic, compared with 38 percent in non-charter schools." http://www.occ.gov/static/community-affairs/community-developments-investments/spring11/articles/why
  22. Local school tax money will NOT go to state authorized charter schools. Local School boards can still authorize charter schools like they have always been able to do. Charter schools do not pick and choose students. They are required to go to a lottery if more students than seats request to go to the charter school. If the charter school does not meet testing standards and shows financial instability, it will be shut down... unlike our current Georgia schools. If a charter school has poor teachers, poor test scores, parents will not send their students there and it will be shut down
  23. Not sure if all the schools are doing this, but I just got a note home from my child's elementary school saying that they will now be weighed and measured as part of a Fit program and these results are sent to the state along with a report to the parents...... no permission needed. Seems a bit overreaching.
  24. We knew Jeff from Rotary. He was a man devoted to his family and community. He always made you laugh and smile. Thoughts and prayers to the Israel family.
