  1. Teacher's unions oppose Merit pay This is where the Georgia Educators Association stands right now on the Governor's proposal and this is why it probably won't happen. http://jacksonville....erit_pay_option The Georgia Educators Association is waiting for the details before it decides whether to support or oppose his idea, according to president Jeff Hubbard. For instance, he suggests the achievement be measured by the student's classroom participation and work on projects rather than just on standardized tests. "If they are going to base it just on a standardized test score, that
  2. One in 5 schools in Georgia is a problem no matter where the schools are. We shall see where the investigation leads. Drop out rates in Georgia is a huge problem and I think you know it is.
  3. Excuse me, I am not following your thoughts here. I thought the question Jughaid asked was about the possible cheating on tests in GA. What does that have to do with Merit Pay. If you want to discuss that though, I do believe the Governor has made that proposal. It is part of the effort he is making to get more funding from the Feds for Georgia schools. The Teacher's Union is opposed to it.
  4. I would say one in five is a high number! This is really disgraceful and I hope it does not prove to be true. http://www.ajc.com/news/suspicious-test-scores-widespread-296490.html One in five Georgia public schools faces accusations of tampering with student answers on last spring’s state standardized tests, officials said Wednesday, throwing the state’s main academic measure into turmoil. The Atlanta district is home to 58 of the 191 schools statewide that are likely to undergo investigations into potential cheating. Another 178 schools will probably see new test security mandates, su
  5. When there are more folks who feel the way you do about this than there are who want to adhere to the Constitution, then the freedom of American will be forever lost!
  6. You left out the fact that a good many of Georgia's schools are being looked at for (possibly) erasing and changing answers to make AYP. Thank goodness Paulding does not have that problem.
  7. I don't need to read that book to know what is happening in our schools. All I have to do is look at Georgia's drop out rate and the number of kids who still can't read. Test scores do help to tell the story too. I don't blame the teachers. I blame the system that has replaced real subjects and real books with standards and NCLB.
  8. That is more spin as far as I can tell. Cathy Cox has been terrible in the job she has and she has gotten very good at spinning test results.
  9. Oops, I think the teacher posting just before your post believes she knows what's best for all school children. I am not going to say you are not good at what you do but I will say the system is failing the kids. It isn't working or we would not be at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to test scores. I really don't think that has anything to do with the school calender either.
  10. Today's methods in education do not appear to be working. I plan to watch John Stossel tomorrow evening at 8:00 to see what new info he has about education in America. I think he is going to say vouchers are the answer. Parents could then send their children to the school that best fit their needs.
  11. You want to see this done even if it is unconstitutional?
  12. Convicted felons are already on the list for those who can be tested upon arrest. They shouldn't have to test you if they already have your DNA. If they have some from the crime in question it should have flagged you already.
  13. We are pretty much on the same page with this. If you are convicted you lose a lot of your rights, and should
  14. As I understood the Bill it requires anyone who is arrested for a felony to have their DNA taken. This is before any conviction. Maybe I missed something.
  15. I will vote for sticking with the Constitution every time. It is what has made America different and made her great! I will change one word in my previous statement, I am not in favor of giving up our Constitutional rights for the PERCEPTION of safety.
  16. Can't explain it to you then. Yep, I'm assuming! Slippery slope!
  17. That would never happen. Once they had it in there it would not be removed without a petition and then it might not be.
  18. I would agree with you except for one thing. It is a slippery slope and it would not end there. I am not willing to give up our rights under the Constitution, for safety. That is why I don't agree with the Patriot Act. I am seeing that most on this board are willing to give it up though. I agree as far as convicted felons are concerned but not for every person arrested.
  19. Yes, it is removing bodily fluids! It is decidedly different from finger prints. And I will restate this: Sensitive genetic information, such as family relationships and disease susceptibility, can be obtained from DNA samples. Police, forensic science services, and researchers using the database have access to people’s DNA without their consent. This can be seen as an intrusion of personal privacy and a violation of civil liberties. Even the most secure database has a chance of being compromised. http://www.ornl.gov/...forensics.shtml
  20. These are some of the differences. DNA gives far far more personal information and you are right it never goes away if put in the database unless there is a petition to have it removed if the person is found innocent. I see it as different. http://www.ornl.gov/sci/techresources/Human_Genome/elsi/forensics.shtml Sensitive genetic information, such as family relationships and disease susceptibility, can be obtained from DNA samples. Police, forensic science services, and researchers using the database have access to people’s DNA without their consent. This can be seen as an
  21. Fingerprints are not the same. I don't think they tell anyone the things DNA can tell. Your finger prints can be taken without removing part of your body!
  22. 3 seats changed last election and 3 are up this election. Why don't you actively seek qualified folks to run. I know posts 2 and 6 are up not sure of the other one. Cathy West, Sammy McClure, and Kim Curl! In this economy you could not pay me enough to take this job. There is not enough money to come close to covering the budget and it is going to get worse in my opinion.
  23. I don't think it had much to do with racial profiling or loitering. I would not want to be told in my neighborhood that I could not stand on the corner and speak with my neighbor. I would not want to be pegged as a dealer or a criminal for standing with my friends either. That is happening is some neighborhoods. It is the behavior of the police officer that is the problem here. He was found to be wrong in what he did in this case. He has had 18 complaints filed against him. If I read this correctly 3 were found to have cause and 3 are still pending. I think he needs to learn some commu
