Yep, I remember Cousin It. The Adams Family was a favorite at our house. Had great hair! In fact I think he was hair.

I am glad he is doing well with it. I know of a lot of kids who aren't. He must be in the 10 or 15% that Dr. Barge was speaking of. -
I wondered about that too. Some folks just keep these things secret. ng why didn't you share?

After all of the opinions I have seen on p.com about this I really thought there would be at least one comment about it. -
I think if Pubby thinks folks need to move on he will be the one to say so. I like P.com and have no intention of leaving. I have a paid membership to prove it. I want this site to stay alive and continue to succeed. I think you may be assuming way too much.

I am pleased to see that as promised some of our newly elected officials are talking about change. I am concerned about what other areas may have funding cuts though. This article from the AJC addresses all of this. I don't call the new math tougher, I call it disjointed and a failure. http://www.ajc.com/news/georgia-politics-elections/hope-pre-k-funds-794544.html Normally, legislators leave it to the state Board of Education and superintendent to establish school curriculum. But on the campaign trail, many of them heard an earful about the tougher math. Some lawmakers recently sat dow

I will! Who picks the numbers? -
I miss your opinions in the topics about school issues and the new proposals that are coming down the road. I miss them in all topics but you and a few other teachers and BOE staff members really have what I consider to be valuable insights on education issues. Pop in more often please. P.com is a one of a kind site and I have always thought it was an asset to the Paulding community.

Hope you feel better soon! What she said!

Of course they should not be rubber stamped. Can you prove they always have been. I know some mistakes were made but Obama is not doing what needs to be done. If the well that blew had been closer to shore it could have been capped with far less trouble. Regulations have led to some of these problems.

Apparently Obama has cut our production. I can understand why oil prices are rising. Today's story: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970204204004576050451696859780.html?ru=yahoo&mod=yahoo_hs The slowdown also has long-term implications for U.S. oil production. The Energy Information Administration, the research arm of the Department of Energy, last month predicted that domestic offshore oil production will fall 13% this year from 2010 due to the moratorium and the slow return to drilling; a year ago, the agency predicted offshore production would rise 6% in 2011. The differ

Thank you TP. That is very sweet of you. -
Americans with Disabilities. ADD. They will pick up at the door.

This is a link to another AJC article on this subject. The comments by one of the teachers was very interesting. http://blogs.ajc.com/get-schooled-blog/2010/12/29/prospect-of-teacher-ratings-spark-debate-criticisms/

I don't usually refer to links like this one but this is video of the parents and students involved. I thought it had merit. I think John Stossel has some good ideas on this issue. He seems to think the teacher's unions have something to do with poor performance in some schools. Must We Not Say Anything Important Enough To Arouse Enthusiasm

Just like you TP. You don't even know me or what is in my heart. -
No, I fully understand this thread. We happen to agree that the planned grading system will not work We just don't have the same reasons for our opinions. You still need to find some trustworthy info on the voucher system the President killed in Washington DC. It worked, and the students and their parents who were affected by the loss of it were devastated.
-
You are wrong, it did work. You need to do more research on it. You are also equating money to school performance. That is not the thing that is most important. There are a lot of different elements that make up a successful system. Money is not the most important one. There was a recent study done on the results of Harvard and other Ivy league colleges to others (such as state colleges) they found there was no real difference when they took into account the SAT scores of the students. Just one example of money not being the most important factor.

Been there too LPPT. I wish I could be as sweet as you are about it. I am trying though. -
I don't see this creating a system of haves and have nots. I just mentioned the National Standards that are coming in a previous post. When you speak of private schools for politician's children I think you should start with the current President and the voucher system he killed in Washington DC that allowed disadvantaged children to go where his kids go. I do see this as a possible way for the government to eventually control what is taught in the classroom and who teaches though.
-
I agree with you. I think this is the beginning of National Standards and I am very leery of those. Unfortunately I believe Georgia signed on with that program. I hope there is a way to get out of it. I am glad that our local BOE was wise enough to opt out of "Race to the Top".
-
I could agree if the Federal government was not involved. NCLB is a perfect example of something that sounded good and turned out to be full of unintended consequences. There is more afoot here than meets the eye I am afraid.
