  3. meh. we made 4 trips to the dump last weekend and are done with it.
  4. why not just pm the OP when it's moved?
  5. as far as insurance, our policy doesn't cover floods. i had to have the policy's declarations page on hand when the gentleman from fema came, for him to verify our lack of coverage. i don't know what happens if you do have flood coverage. yes to your second question, the way it was explained to me, in this instance. i can't say whether of not this is standard for all disasters. i don't know much about fema and/or how they work. i just know that in this situation i was told that the loss in/of my basement wasn't going to be considered an emergency by fema because there were enough bedrooms
  6. perhaps so that you can't later claim damage to the upper floors? or so they can prove there's adequate living space for the amount of folks living in your home? i'm not sure. if it's emergent, or structural, i'd take pictures of the damage then make the repairs that you have to.
  7. yep, including the room where my oldest was trying to sleep off a broken ankle. sounds like we won't be getting anything from fema except reimbursement for our dehumidifier. our affected space wasn't anyone's primary living space, so it's not considered an emergency. there's a packet coming in the mail that we'll need to go through. we were advised to apply for a grant to cover the loss of our a/c and furnace.
  8. i got a guy from maine or some place else up there. called thursday, he was here today.
  9. please rest and take care of yourself so that you have the strength to take care of everyone else!

  12. unfortunately, this is what the world has come to.
  13. plus adult admission. plus 2-3 vehicles to tote them there. how long does the hayride last?
  14. ask the teacher to provide you with a list of books that "count".
  15. invest in a plastic owl or two.
  16. yep. interested me enough to set up a recording on my dvr.
  17. crossing my fingers that your hard work will pay off and you won't have any more flooding in the future!
  18. i called and registered with fema on thursday. i'm doubtful that we'll get much help. there are so many others that have lost so much more, i'd rather the help go to them. rumor is that they're offering 2% interest loans to those less impacted. not sure that i want to be in debt to the govt. gotta go take a cake to my neighbors. they were harder hit than us.
  19. you're more than welcome to come help with clean up here. wait. we're already done. it's been 5 days since the flood we've worked til after midnight every night, and been back up and at it at 5:30 every morning before going off to work for 8 hours each. our kids used their week off of school to rip out carpet, man the shop vacs, and empty the dehumidifiers, every hour, on th hour, all the while looking at and tripping over their ruined possessions. they spent their friday night helping to load up the salvageable stuff and tote it to storage where it will sit for a month or more until we ca
