Bystander Apathy (The Bystander Effect)
dawneykids replied to DomesticViolenceByProxy's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I agree and you never actually know what any situation is that you happen upon at random. We've happened upon several situations where we've offered help when the problem is clear, but I'd be hard pressed to get involved where I think danger is involved. I'll cal 911 all day long, but there is a limit. And I'll tell you something else, for these dumba$$es who pull these fake stunts, it's just a matter of time before one of them is hurt or even killed because someone IS going to get involved and try to stop something that isn't really happening anyway. It's a stupid set up and it's not surp -
Bystander Apathy (The Bystander Effect)
dawneykids replied to DomesticViolenceByProxy's topic in RECENT TOPICS
So, contrary to what some would like you to believe is apathy and simply not caring, it's actually human nature? I don't believe for a second that just because someone doesn't get 'involved' in a situation they see on the street, that it makes them bad OR apathetic. -
We're drilling long division too because he's not good in math at all. GAD, he make not like me when he gets older!!

Remember the bad wreck on 278 with a truck and fatality?
dawneykids replied to J'smom's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I was with my daughter on 278 yesterday going between 50 and 60, when a girl passed us in the RIGHT lane while putting on eyeliner. It's not just texting that is a bad idea while driving and unfortunately, you can't outlaw S-T-U-P-I-D. -
Yea....not expecting that phone call in the future!

I hope so! And it's not the memory, 'OMG. I remember when my mom made me learn cursive'!! He's a good kid and at 12, he still likes me a lot, so I don't think we'll have too much of a problem. Fingers crossed.

It's appalling to me that penmanship isn't taught in school anymore. When I see my own sons handwriting, I'm shocked that his teachers can grade his work sometimes. Well, I've had it and have decided to make it my mission to teach him neat penmanship and cursive writing. I've printed the entire cursive alphabet including words and practice paragraphs, made him a notebook and broke it him to that we were starting something new. He's tried to convince me that cursive won't benefit him throughout his life except for maybe needing a signature at some point, I listened to his arguement and then

What is the deal?? Crazy Mother Nature!! HUbby has a 16 hour day tomorrow and is looking to have his hands full with the soggy ground and high winds. Trees tend to 'give up the ghost' as he calls it.

I hate that. Of course it was 35 years ago, but I learned to count with no electronic help and to this day, it kills me when a cashier hands me back a hand full of chage and instead of counting it out like 'thirteen, fourteen and five makes twenty', they say '$6.15 is your change'. I can't count on two hands the number of times I've been given too much or too little change and when you hand back too much change, they look at you like you have two heads.

No kiddin'. However in our house, we insisted that our kids learn to tell time with an analog clock/watch first and we have never used digital watches. Ever. We had a kid here for a birthday party once and I told him that his Mom would be here in 10 minutes to pick him up and he wanted to know where the real clock was and how I knew that. Yea, kid, the real clockes are all over my house, ya' know, the ones with the numbers. The only clocks that are digital in our house are our two alarm clocks. Hubby HATES the Kindle I bought him a few years ago. He likes books. Real books with real cov

It seems that every time I click on the 'Recent Topics' button, the topics page is practically the same as it was 3 or 4 days in a row with nothing new at all. Am I going to the wrong place, am I missing the new content somehow? On the old board when you clicked 'Recent Topics' everything that had been newly posted popped up.
