  1. I think we have had more than our fair share of "politicians"...I'd like to see what somebody with some character and discipline can do.
  2. Had Dave not resigned in Nov, 90 days prior to a regular already scheduled state-wide election, the County would have to have held a special election for that seat. That election, by law, would have to have been "separate and apart" from any of the political parties' primaries and run-offs. By him doing what he did when he did it, the taxpayers of Paulding didn't have to spend about $100K on a special election that would have had to be held apart from the local county-wide primaries . Since Dave retired as a bird colonel from the USMC, he wasn't taking a LOT of orders from his supe
  3. All I know is what Dave told me face to face while I was standing in his kitchen at his home. (That scenario was later repeated by his daughter who lives down the street from me.) I don't think Dave knew at the time of our conversation that anyone had filed to seek the Post 1 seat, because he asked me if I would consider the race. His words to me were something like "I'm sure somebody will file and you would have some competition, but I think you would do a great job." I honestly wasn't paying attention to the whole thing about the timing.
  4. Ok, Whitey. You are obviously the resident "expert" on everything political in Paulding County. Have a good time.
  5. I don't remember all the exact dates, but this is my understanding of the timing as Dave's daughter explained it to me. There was a "sweet spot" ( so to speak) in the timing. I seem to recall something about 100 days notice to get a candidate on a ballot. His resignation was just a little more than 100 days prior to 3/1 which would have been the next election. Had he waited to resign Post 1 until he qualified for Chair when that filing opened in Feb (?), there would have had to be a special election for Post 1, unless it happened that it would have met the date requirements for a p
  6. I think I know the reason for that. As a sitting Commissioner, had he won the Chairman's spot in this spring's elections, he would have had to vacate the Post 1 spot upon assuming the new office. That would have meant a special election would have had to be held for Post 1 sometime after January 1, 2017. By resigning when he did, it gave candidates for his replacement time to get on the next upcoming election, which was this past "super Tuesday". Had he not done what he did, exactly when he did it, the County would have had to held a special election next spring, and at some pretty
  7. There are some endorsements that are a kiss of death to a campaign.
  8. You ain't from around these here parts, is ya?
  9. On the topic of gasoline... Have any of you noticed that the Marathon stations are advertising two prices for the same grade, one for cash and another for credit/debit? It was always my understanding that credit card processing companies prohibited that practice. In every business I have ever had, the card processing agreement I signed prohibited me from offering discounts for cash or charging a premium for card usage.
  10. Those who have CCW's aren't the ones the cops should be worrying about. Edited to add: Your vehicle is an extension of your home. You do not need a permit to carry a gun in your car.
  11. All true. But Hartsfield and Lambert and O'Hare all have runways much wider and 50% longer than PuddleJumpInconvenient.
  12. I am not an aviator. But it seems to me that almost every commercial airport capable of handling large passenger aircraft has more than one runway to be able to deal with cross winds. Maybe I missed it, but doesn't SCF just have one runway?
  13. Almost. SWMBO couldn't get out because she was sick. I tried to vote twice, once for her, but they said that wasn't possible, since I had already selected a GOP ballot. Had I chosen a Dem ballot, hell, just wear the machine out. Vote all you want.
  14. The turnout yesterday was about equal to the total votes cast in the other 3 posts in last year's elections, and if I recall, Davis' margin was about the same as Pownall's over Patti.
  15. WTF? Must be some sort of Bernie-speak.
  16. Anybody got any election returns?
  17. That's the definition of an honest attorney; "once bought, stays bought".
  18. Hummh. Davis told me that the Post race to fill Carmichael's seat for the rest of '16 was only on the GOP ballot. That's what I was going off of. Maybe I misunderstood him? These major state primaries like GA and FL will be interesting to see what the total volume of votes is on each side. In a state like FL that is usually somewhat of a toss-up, I'm thinking that Trump by himself will get more votes than HRC, nevermind what Cruz and Rubio do.
  19. Just had an interesting conversation about this with one of the Post 1 candidates, Ron Davis. I can say that he is upset about the lack of pro-activity on the part of the Marshal's office. He said to me that many people have asked him about this trash/litter issue during his campaign. I think a vote for him on Tuesday might be in our best interests.......
  20. The only thing local on the Tuesday election is to fill the unexpired term of Carmichael in Post 1. Davis vs. Fields on the GOP ballot. If you are voting Dem on Tues, you get to pick Hilla the Hun or Crazy Bernie. The local elections start again March 24 for Commission Chair and Post 1 again.
  21. Choosing between Hilla the Hun and Kookie Bernie must be really tough.
  22. I posted on their FB page a while back, asking why they weren't proactive in enforcing the codes. They deleted my post without answering it. (Sort of like another social medial source we all know about.)
