say YES to a Road you are paying NOTHING for
Cathyhelms replied to Deepgreenlighting's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Water, sewer, tax incentives are needed before businesses will want to move to any area. Instead of telling us how this will help bring business to Paulding, how about we talk to some businesses that can bring jobs first. What do they want?? Is a toll road an option they are looking for. I find it amazing Polk County, being even further away from an interstate than we are has several large corporations right there in down town Rockmart. Douglas County has I 20, the rail yards and a quick trip to Atlanta and Birmingham, yet businesses aren't falling over themselves to get there. So if -

So who's going to pay for the toll collectors?? Who's going to pay for the security?? Who's going to pay for repairs?? Don't tell us "again" that progress won't cost the people of Paulding anything, I've heard this lie too many times before. My link -
Who has ever lived around toll roads/interstates

Yea, I was broke down on I 24 in Murfreesboro about 22 years ago. Had to stay in a sleezy hotel, I spent a night wondering if the broken lock on the door would keep the drunks I passed on the way in, out of my room. Oh yea, Murfreesboro was a lot of fun. Such a nice place to be. -
Yes, exactly!! Promises only cost all of us more. I want to see something "concrete" before we go down this "road" again. Good to see you back fellip.
-
I assure you this is no invitation to industry. I say boo, boo!! Yea, tolls slow you down, a lot...............and how long have you been in Paulding?? Don't know about you but I'm sick and tired of all the promises on my dime.

Remember you don't have to hit the deer to cause damage, they have been known to run right into you. So far so good, but I've seen lots of damage to other vehicles and hurt folks. You never know when they will jump out at you.

This makes me truly sad, they were so bonded. Poor Tarra.

Pubby, Perhaps you think I'm going overboard but I don't think I'm alone. Just read the link about the Florida toll roads and get back to me. They talk about privatizing the toll roads and bridges and how awful it will be for the state. If they abandon this, I might re-think my opinion of the knuckleheads running this county.

Who has ever lived around toll roads/interstates

DGP we do need more business I agree but every time we're promised the elected officials are bringing industry to Paulding it ends up costing all of us a lot more and we loose more precious green space. I'm sorry there isn't anybody I know that's promoting this thing that has a lick of sense. Think about it, the 4 lane would be a straight shot to the Atlanta airport, build it and the businesses will come. The Paulding Airport will bring a lot of business to Paulding, it won't cost the taxpayers a dime, build it and they will come. Pass the Splost for the kids, build the schools and th -
Thank you ButterflyLion...................only Paulding would even consider such nonsense. Well mostly those that would make lots of money off it so they can retire in the Florida Keys. Has anyone looked to see if this encompasses that large plot of land the Austin's own?? I know Jerry will be all for it.

Why yes, I did. How did you ever guess?? -
Well Lisa, that's only one of the problems. There are several others.

Who has ever lived around toll roads/interstates

Georgia doesn't have many toll roads, yet. However, the exits aren't that much different from interstates. Though they are farther between (usually), they are pretty much the same. -
Just curious. I grew up in an area that had a very high amount of toll roads and interstates. The closer you got to the exits the scarier the neighborhoods became. The traffic is always horrible and the roads are constantly lined with pot holes from the massive amount of traffic. It's not a fun experience. If you have, please share your experiences.

It's sort of a LONG bypass around Atlanta from 75 South of Atlanta and it will reconnect to 75 North of Atlanta at Cartersville or a little further North. Yes, it's a PIA living in the boonies but I can almost guarantee this toll road won't bring us a grocery store.

Here's the link from thecleaner's other thread. toll road click on the maps tab, then click on the map, it will zoom in.

The yellow route takes it right through our back yards. It's in Paulding, how close are you to the Haralson county line?? It's not in Haralson or Polk either. That's OK, I'm honored to be called NJ. However, I can understand the confusion with BS and BS.

:clapping:

Are you saying it could contaminate our drinking water?? On that note, doesn't anyone think the reservoir should be completed first?? Oh snap, that's right it won't bring industry here.
-
Having grown up in an area with lots and lots of toll roads, the delays involved going through a toll plaza are painstakingly slow. The era of cheap tolls is long gone, how many people are resisting the toll lanes through Atlanta already. If they won't use a toll road in Atlanta during rush hour, why do you think they'll use it here?? Anybody ever exited a highway in a rural area?? Lets see, there are probably 14 gas stations, 5 chain restaurants and nothing beyond a 1/4 mile from the exit. What makes you think Paulding will be any different???
-
What would give you that idea?? LOL Seriously, it's the same BS we heard in the 80's about the 4 lane, it's all BS and a way for our politicians to make money pillaging more land. They'll take off to their retirement homes in the keys while our kids sit here with the burden of paying for this mistake.
-
I cannot believe some of those very people that bitch*d and moaned about the residential rape and pillage of our land think this is a good thing. Truckers won't use a Toll road when there is another route, without tolls, going to the same place. Not only will this desecrate even more land, the pollution from the cars will increase. Those of us that lived here before they 4 laned 278 heard these same arguments. 4 lane with limited access, straight shot to the Atlanta Airport, great access to the city. Build it and they will come. So tell me why Shaw left?? Tell me why the businesses

Craziness just continues, the rape and pillage of Paulding County continues. I agree with News Junky, if you want to be closer to work and the malls, why don't you just move there. I'm sick and tired of all the "in the name of progress" junkies that thrive on building Paulding to the Max. Douglasville has rail yards, an interstate and industrial parks, do you see companies jumping all over themselves to move to Douglasville?? Wonder why. This will not bring more industry to the county. We must bring industry first. Cartersville doesn't have a big interstate in some of their main i
