  1. You would think, when someone has managed to get themselves elected to the legislature, that they would have a good solid foundation in what it takes to run a business, and what it takes to attract industry. During the past 10 years of being active with the politicians in Paulding, the Chamber, the IBA, etc., I found the opposite. Many times I had discussions with prvious commission and IBA and Chamber directors and I learned they did not have a clue, nor could they really care. Hence, little to no effort was put forward to set goals and work to accomplish them. During my conversations
  2. We like the Wishbone fried chicken from Kroger. And since we happen to prefer the drumsticks and thighs, the 16 piece darkmeat deal is a DEAL at $8.00. You will use that much oil frying your own. I always have gravy that I have canned in half pints and pints on the shelf. Some steamed basmati rice, cole slaw, and green beans from the garden make a hell of a meal for 4 or more for less than $10.00 total.
  3. SBS, Which brings us to the General election in less than 3 weeks. Our representation under the gold dome for the next 2 years is at stake here, along with our 10 year reapportionment where we should get a new seat. We have had little in the way of Representation for many years now. The Speaker had too much on his plate and kind of just let his constituents fall by the wayside. Faced with the fact we have Paulette Braddock, "R"; and Will Avery, "D", who are you going to vote for ? I, along with many others who generally vote Republican are going to vote for Will Avery. And we are
  4. They are drawn by the demographics of the census every 10 years. the 2011 Legislature will redraw them again. Paulding should pick up a 3rd Legislature seat and if they will use some common sense for the State Senate, we should have our own Senator instead of sharing part of one with Harralson to the west and part of one with Cobb to the East. Neither of our Senators resides in Paulding. Best I know the actual lines are drawn trying to use creeks, railroad tracks and highways as dividers, but it does not always work out that way. If you were to bring up a map showing the population in 2000
  5. The Vote Smart website will show what distict you live in: My link vote smart
  6. When an individual decides to enter the political arena, they owe the voters the transparency of divulging pertinent data as it relates to their personal history, work record, previous time in politics and their character in general. Paulette has made an issue out of running on her "21 years of entreprenurial experience as a business person". That makes the bankruptcy of her business pertinent to her candidacy. And personnally, a bankruptcy of the magnitude when looking at assests versus liabilities something to consider. When we closed down our business in 2003, the primary reason was
  7. Unfortunately, not enough will see or inform themselves on any of the pertinent issues in this election. I can only hope enough WILL stop to take a few moments and learn about the candidates to make an informed decision instead of just pushing the button next to the "R" with no thought or reason behind their actions. We have a very good and viable candidate in Will Avery for the district 19 seat. And then we have Paulette Braddock running as the annointed "R". And I can assure you that is why we are not seeing Paulette out in the public eye at the forum with the Chamber last week, or w
  8. Like you Whitey, I thought the wording was pretty succinct. The first $57 millions serves the bond. If the bond payment has been serviced, the BOE cannot bill us for it, at least for the 5 years of this SPLOST unless the proceeds collected are insufficient to pay the bond. I know from past SPLOSTS, the money must be used as outlined in the language on the referendum.
  9. I believe a NOLO plead exempts you from the convicted felon history, but it does make you go "HUH-WTH?".
  10. Not entirely true. SPLOST funds must be used as specified in the referendum, and the wording is pretty clear they will use the fist $57million collected to pay the bonds for 5 years. They have to be accountable on this.
  11. DAYAM, $818,000 to Xerox ?!?! And it appears they are serious about collecting what they can via the Federal courts.
  12. I still find it hard to believe Paulette has the supporters she does. After watching Will Avery's replies at the Chamber function last week it is obvious he is light years ahead of his opponent in grasping the realities and challenges facing state government.
  13. Can't help remember how terrible the braves were before Cox and Shuerholtz arrived in town. We had the 1969 division playoff against the Mets and I believe it was 1982 against St Louise. Took Cox and company a couple of years to build up the pitching staff, but once they got going it was a hell of a roll. It definitely was more fun rooting for them to WIN the division, instead of just not finishing last. You will be missed Bobby, that is for certain.
  14. The former BOC chairman had direct ties to Premier and its ownership. Lots of promises if he were to be re-elected 2 years ago. And an ax to grind against Sam Clark. Go check who one of the deputy corners was prior to when Premier started up.
  15. And doing the job with less personnel, and the same antiquated system they have used for 50 years. All they are going to do is change it to the local level where the local tax commissioners office will take over the duties collecting these on a regular basis, and those in arrearsalong with the ad valorum tax they collect for the state now. They will be financially motivated to do a good job as they will get the use of their portion as soon as they collect it instead of having to wait for the state to collect it [or not] and send the county THEIR portion. And they are local. Last time I ha
  16. Does your "source" have any association or tie in to another ambulance service by chance ?
  17. I have to assume either the OP, or someone close to them, is well aware of how Sam runs his business. It appears their are a bunch of sour grapes. And if it is the individual I am thinking it is, I can guarran-damn-tee you we will be much better off subsidizing Sam Clark than the scumbag I am thinking started this thread. Thanks for what you do Sam, and stay out of the helicopter and real-estate business. You are too honest.
  18. I think Will Avery has made some very clear proposals of possible ways in increase state revenue without raising property or income tax. I know when we were operating our business here, we were continually flagged by some DOR guy named Denis. We would be showing monthly sales of $250,000, but only pay sales tax of less than $100 for 1 little customer we had with a backyard hatchery who did not have a sales tax exemption form. All our other Georgia customers had exemptions, and those outside of Georgia and the USA did not have to pay Ga. Sales tax. We would have to go down and show him our
  19. We have know and been acqaintances with Sam for many a year, and have nothing but great things to say about him, both with the ambulance service and the funeral home. We heard all the goings on with that last ambulance service which, I believe another post in another thead said went belly up. There was a failed political connection at play there as well, by some of our "former" politicians. Free Enterprise is great. But as we all know, when it comes o healthcare, there will be subisidies needed to provide the services, both for reasonable ambulance care and indegent care. I believe if
  20. The "Honor" system as it has been for many years, is just too antiquated to enforce. The number of book keepers needed to review every monthly Sales tax form MANUALLY filled out with an arbitrary number on it. For large companies they basically could pay what they wanted. Sales to out of state cusomers are exmept, and many would use that excuse to not pay the state sales tax collected from Georgia customers but stating otherside on the forms. Same for exports, which was half of my business. Unless some one at the DOR compared the gross receipts on the corporate income taxes with the annua
  21. I don't feel this is "Mud" flying around. Seems to me Paulette's Pandora's Box in her closet full of skeletons has been opened. She should spend more time over at East Paulding High.....at the Boneyard! The attendence and voting records for her tenure on the BOE are available for anyone to view and research via the BOE website. 250 missed votes from the 40+ meetings she missed, arrived late, or left early. But I am sure we will hear how hard she will strive to make it to her seat under the Gold Dome and be there to vote EVERYTIME it matters. Her BOE voting records showing her
  22. And he can keep his shoes on his feet while at the Capitol qualifying to run for the district 19 seat. Something Paulette had a problem doing last April.
  23. Other than in a handful of the rather new technology industries [solar power and that kind of stuff] most of the chinese manufacturing, along with India is trinket junk. Injection molded throw away consumer products. The USA and the EEC is still the high tech manufacturing of the world. For my industry, it is the EEC who is taking the bulk of the manufacturing and there is virtually nothing coming out of china as machinery itself, or even major components other than some of the stainless steel itself. And we cannot compete with that pricewise if we are to meet EPA regulations. Virtuall
  24. Or even scarier....will she use that office to do what her handlers want her to do ? I agree with the lack of remorse, and I think she will regret taking that approach. Instead of admitting what she did was wrong, AND illegal, she tries to flip it, and deny she made an error in judgement, pleaded NOLO, signed off on it, and did the community service [i am assuming she did her community service as per the plea bargain.]. Reminds me a bit of the arrogance shown by a former commission chairman when confronted with a rather incriminating email about a sneaky tax increase. We have
