  1. Guard Dad: It is either a callout in its original placement or it is not. If it was not taken that way initially then the act of separating because it was off-topic wouldn't change its character. Now had I used more specific language in the new topic's headline ... I.e. defined it as a callout, or said so and so questions someone about such and such ... I could have transformed it. Obviously I didn't choose to put that kind of title on the topic. I mean I can't imagine a less controversial yet accurate title than "Dana asks a question". pubby
  2. It is stories like this: http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/06/11/ok-gop-candidate-let-cities-decide-whether-gays-should-be-stoned-to-death/ - where politicians say that communities should be free to enact and enforce biblical law allowing the stoning to death of gays, for instance, that 'informed' my statement: Those who favor stoning to death - capital punishment by the 'state' or 'community' - but otherwise don't want the government to do anything have an agenda that harkens to ancient times ... like these folks are so conservative and averse to change that they like the 'old' law ...
  3. TP: I'm far from dead ... now pcom ... if things don't turn around, I'll expect it will end relatively soon for lack of support. Had I been successful at the polls, I suspect it would continue. pubby
  4. In another topic, this question was posed. First, a post commissioner has virtually no political power. The post commissioner is a legislator and ought to be keeping an eye on things. I figured that the incumbent was doing a lousy job at that and needed to be replaced. Since I've been keeping an eye on things for decades, I figured that I might as well get paid for that. Besides, considering how well you folks pay, I needed another job 'cause you guys don't pay often or enough. Does that answer your question? pubby
  5. They are advisory committees whose power is in persuasion. FYI, and you probably didn't know this either NJ - they have the same status as does the Planning and zoning commission whose decisions are also wholly advisory to the commission which is not formally obligated to accept the recommendations, lists of stipulations or other elements of their views on zoning decisions in the county. The decisions of the planning and zoning commission are generally accepted, however. Presumably, this would be so for the airport and IBA citizen commissions as well. The unwritten understandin
  6. Actually cmorg ... I suspect with the police holding on to the identity - he was well known in the cycle racing community - the local press guy got a 'tip' from someone that may have gotten it wrong. I went to the cycle racing community web site and bulletin board and that is where I got it. You can see things like this (where a local social network like Pcom gets it right sooner) here as well as there. Here's the link: http://forums.13x.com/showthread.php?t=316389 The deadlines passed and they'll get notice of it tomorrow but I don't think it would sell a single paper by saying it w
  7. Mrs. G. ... I think that the error ... if there is an error ... would fall on the AJC/Atlanta TV stations. If you listened to the Cobb Commission Chairman, the Atlanta press would lie to sell newspapers. Whether it was their fault or the fault of someone associated with the Fire/Police in the area - the home town of the victim was not released at the time the story was initially being reporter meaning they got that info third hand most likely. They will probably correct the error if and when they report the name ... or they'll see the location wrong, note the person was a resident
  8. I went to check this out and it may not be a Dallas GA man that died today at the WERA Motorcycle races. There are Dallas and Hiram participants in this motorcycle racing group - I found about 13 folks showing Paulding as their hometown - but when I went to the WERA website and message board they were expressing condolences about an expert rider named Andy White of St. Augustine, FL I did see where it was reported in the Atlanta newspaper that the man was from Georgia and lived in Dallas and it is possible that he had moved here from Florida recently and had not changed his racing r
  9. The act of offer and counter-offer is the essence of negotiation. It is like this: They may an offer - you rejected the offer and made a counter-offer. Their silence is their rejection of your counter offer and depending on what they said, their original offer may still stand. You could and maybe should reject their offer outright ... which you will also do 'automatically' by continuing to reject their offer as originally made. You could formally reject it, however. pubby
  10. I find it sad but understandable. What we have here is a blurring of fact and fiction. The young girls found themselves, for whatever reason, enthralled and under the power of the imagination - conjured by clever people writing fiction, which is by definition a 'lie.' It is a very confusing world out there for virtually everyone and developing 12 year old minds are no exception. Were these girls 'mentally healthy?' Does anyone wish to claim they are? Are we incapable of identifying kids who veer off the path - sometimes lured by crime, drugs or even religious cults, until they've
  11. And tundra, I guess you decided to complain simply because they didn't do it your way. What else is new .... because the complaints certainly aren't. pubby
  12. Have you changed emails ? pubby
  13. Yes, this is one of many 5-4 decisions by the SCOTUS that remain controversial. Funny how you accept some, reject others and on the subject of this topic, some on the right applaud those who break them ... you know like fudging on death penalty cases where the IQ of the killer is so low as to make the concept of deterrent meaningless. pubby
  14. I know you like to lie glassdogs but that one is a whopper ... There are lots and lots and lots of big governments I don't like. The one of Louis XVI, for one; King George III was not my favorite even if everyone thought his power was absolute (save the magna carta) and endorsed by God. Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini all headed 'big intrusive governments' and spawned many more that I didn't like. Throw in Hirohito, Chiang Kai-shek, Mao Tse tung, Pol Pot and don't forget Pinochet and Spain's Franco as among those who were liberal in their use of the government sanctioned death penalty to crush t
  15. I'm not particularly enthralled with the death penalty and the reason is going to surprise most of the folks on the right. See, my reluctance to embrace it is not based on vengeance or punishment or exercising the karma of the state in defense of the victims. In a real sense the death penalty is just killing and there is plenty of that going on. Certainly my reluctance has nothing to do with exigent situations where someone kills another in a desperate act of self-defense. The death penalty is however the statement of the power of the state to take life.. My question is whethe
  16. Actually, cmorg, I did read comments and commentary in favor of Bundy after the bigotry was revealed. Beyond that, over time - and I can say this without fear of contradiction - I've read numerous racist and bigoted remarks on paulding.com. I suspect many of them are among the posts set invisible by the moderators or myself and those acts of moderation are among teh reasons that I've been accused of censorship by many on the right. Beyond that, I've certainly witnessed crosses burning in fields here accompanied by people with shaven heads and others in sheets. So pardon me if I d
  17. Why would the gent at the spectator even go there? Lets just say his opinion, basically that slavery was no so bad a situation, is one that is held by others with a similar world view like ... well Cliven Bundy. I think TP, that the record will show there were some supporters of Mr. Bundy here as well. For those who might have forgotten Mr. Bundy's story ... he was a big deal a month or so ago. Still here is a short youtube that I found fascinating. pubby
  18. Yes, Obama regularly ends his speeches and tv appearances with " God Bless America" ... of course I don't expect you ever made it to the end of any of them. pubby
  19. Your logic sucks surepip: really, just because Sidley-Austin makes the allegation doesn't make it so. Bottom line, the FAA is in the position of power on this and if they feel as Sidley-Austin says they should, I'm sure they are more than capable of making their concerns known. However, you're saying that Sidley-Austin is right in their judgment is just showing your prejudice. Their letter is an opinion; your statement is an opinion. Their opinion doesn't count, your opinion doesn't count and if the county, acting on their opinion, screwed up; we'll all know soon enough. But t
  20. First there is no specific charge of a violation here so with no official action there can be no hearing, no ruling, and no fine. Second, on the fire truck, the reality is it was purchased in fulfillment of the contract. While it may be a requirement for a commercial operation at the airport it remains a viable and useful piece of firefighting equipment regardless. Further as it is a piece of capital equipment that as of yet has not been used to any great degree, it has a long life ahead of it and as such, retains a large percentage of its initial cost if worst comes to worst and its
  21. They may yet be there. It is also possible they are in an alternate file folder. I would recommend first going to file manager in windows and look in every one of the "folders" ... If it asks whether to repair the card decline ... that may further corrupt any 'deleted files' I've not had to do it in along time - and I remember using the function only in XP a long time ago - but there were file recovery options in the windows recycle bin (and they may still be there). Open recycle bin and see if they seem to show there and if so, recover them immediately. pubby
  22. You guys sound like a bad boss. You suggest the boss can demean and berate you all he wants and you can't say anything back to him because of his authority and power to fire you. That is the power that you're ascribing to the so-called voters (actually a very small percentage of the population - like less than 15 percent in this last election) largely because the voters have the power to fire the elected officials. The real point is that the we all know that first slap came from the citizen wishing to speak. I've seen the Chairman take much abuse over the course of the last eight
  23. Don't worry about being a pest ... the folks who are talking here are just being negative and nasty toward another member. I've had the thought that they may have invented this as an opportunity to complain again about the member and his posts again as the ignore function has not changed. pubby
  24. Because I won't ignore anyone with my pubby (admin) account, I did try using the ignore feature on another 'paid' member. I'll not state who it was but they are a premium member as I didn't want their paid status to over-ride the ignore feature. Needless to say, the ignore feature does appear to be working. pubby I did check another setting. It will not hide the topic title in recent topic view. If you choose to try and look at the topic it will remind you that you are ignoring the member and ask if you want to view the post anyway. It does not, however, hide topics which may
