  1. Zorro: I simply said that he is smarter than Bill Heath. I also said that Nathan Dean was smarter. As far as the parody, lets put it this context ... it is not a joke 'till you get to the punch line.' George Patton Hughes (aka: pubby)
  2. They don't call our society a litigious society for nothing, surepip. I personally think that the legislatures back in the 1950s should have doubled the number of medical schools and cut funding for the law schools and we'd have all been a lot happier and healthier. Now, we have too many lawyers and not nearly enough doctors. George Patton "Pat" Hughes PS: I'm waiting for Mei Lan to again agree with me... I think I'm on a roll.
  3. NO - absolutely not ... you might say it was my hair-brained idea ... that is if I had any hair George Patton "Pat" Hughes (aka: pubby) PS: I did see that I might get support of some elected officials if I ran but that is me surveying the landscape ... but no, no one suggested or encouraged me to run at all. I have to take 100 percent of the responsibility.
  4. I think one of the first things we need to do is elect smarter legislators. And if you look at the progression from Tom Murphy to Bill Heath, Nathan Dean to Bill Heath and even Glenn Richardson to Paulette Braddock - we've not been doing too well at that. George Patton Hughes (aka: pubby)
  5. I think using parody to make a point more or less covers it from a factual standpoint. George Patton "Pat" Hughes
  6. I think there has to be a bond ... you know the one that was blocked by the suits for them to make the payments on tundra and when plan B - having the IBA pay for them was blocked by another suit and then, they heard Todd say he just wanted to fill in and waste $1 million in dirt work expanding the taxiway that the county had to come up with the cash for plan C. I know you're ROTFLYAO ... but I wouldn't be proud of costing the county - NEEDLESSLY costing the county the delays as well as the costs of litigation and embarrassment - but hey, it's all in service to the mighty folks capable of
  7. From what I saw from the video of the AA meeting, they are. Beyond that, are you suggesting that there is a willingness on the part of the litigants to drop their suits if they are? I will say that I imagine prudence is appropriate, given the willingness of those opposing this effort to litigate. pubby
  8. Solo: I see plenty of things that are wrong. What I don't do is look at people as somehow bad, incompetent or criminal because I disagree with them on this or that issue. Disagreement to me is a process that involves research, discussion, compromise, negotiation and resolution. Because I see these other folks as partners in progress instead of flawed humans who must be rebuked and discarded, I think I can be more effective in discussion, compromise, negotiation and resolution. The thing I think you fail to grasp is that negotiation, discussion, compromise are paths to resolution th
  9. Whitey: The board of commissioners already have title to the airport. If your plan is to turn it into a county department, say so. There is precedent for such things. Look at the county water department. It used to be an independent board just like the airport authority. It was called the Paulding County Water Authority and I used to attend its meetings. If you wanted that, why you didn't say that you wanted to turn it into a county department. For the most part you want to dump the airport and the authority and the whole thing. Why would you want the county to have it? If yo
  10. Actually, the main idea behind Paulding.com from the beginning was that routine notices of this nature would be posted by those interested in sharing these events with the community and I would no longer have to spend my time doing the routine and mundane. But since I am going to be appearing, I'm guessing that even under my extended reasoning, it was left to me George Patton 'Pat' Hughes (aka: pubby) ... posting as an interested candidate wanting folks to hear the candidates in general
  11. Mojo: I appreciate your criticisms. Let me try again. I would have gotten the change that was proposed by Tom Cable through on the IBA to let them do the job they were created to do this past session but I would have insisted that the change include the requirement that we have a public bond issue on the second runway for my support. It is called forging a compromise. But things like that don't happen if you are totally opposed to compromise. My experience over a bunch of years in regard to all or nothing approaches tell me to be suspicious. Reasonable people are able, willin
  12. Why not run as an independent? That's silly Zorro and you know it. To run as an independent because of the laws regarding parties and politics in Georgia means that you'd have to organize a petition drive between a certain date in June or July and you'd have less than 30 days to collect what would be five or ten percent of the number of total voters in the state (if you were running for senate.) - I'm guessing a half-million verified signatures of registered voters that have to sign their names exactly as they are listed on the voter registration roles or they don't count. That, of
  13. tundra: I thought it was commercial passengers on an aircraft that bothered you. Certainly as presently configured the airport couldn't handle a plane the size of a 777 with more than just a skeleton crew and near empty fuel tanks ... which might be arranged if you were going to redo the interior at a MRO operation ... and you've been on the record favoring those for some time. I mean it would be a task of bringing one in one week and then, after a refurbishing - which may take two weeks - they'd fly it out - also with no passengers, a skeleton crew and a short on fuel but plenty of
  14. That is kind of silly Solo. First it presumes that the issue with the airport is still an issue come January 2015. Second, I consider the current administration on net a positive in terms of growth and progress but with problems with transparency based largely on their adoption of the tradition that is a part of Paulding government going back years. Third it assumes that my simple plan, which takes assent by the rest of the post commissioners to change the tradition that dates to the time of sole commissioners, that ordinances, rules and even purchases are announced and then passed
  15. I don't wish that; I just wish that instead of dividing and polarizing as the first reaction - and I think we know who is expert at that - folks would look around and see that there are folks who are actually putting out olive branches and making an effort to unite use as people. And in that context, actions speak louder than words and Michelle Nunn's actions here start with the action that she was an executive director of the George Herman Walker Bush created "Points of Light" Foundation that was initially chaired in Georgia by current US Senator Johnny Isakson. If you look at the p
  16. My take on the meeting was quite different. I was quite interested in the portion of the meeting that was oriented toward policy and openness and not middle school rants, taunts, rudeness and silliness, I was quite surprised at the discussion on changes in the citizens wishing to speak discussion. While nothing whatsoever was decided, this meeting was a milestone in that in all the past 25 years this is the first time that the changes suggested did not seem directed at shutting off debate and silencing critics. Instead, the commission discussed approaches that were an effort to make
  17. Actually, the process sounds a lot like what I suggested. This should not come as a surprise as none of this are ideas that haven't existed for centuries; what is different is the political awareness that when specific issues become problems, there are a variety of ways to address those issues. That some of those approaches enhance engagement and others tend toward rolling back freedoms are the choices. In the past the acts of the commission in this regard has been to restrict citizens wishing to speak. This current proposal actually is very similar to that which I presented above.
  18. Years ago, Jerry Shearin suggested that come over to the Republican Party and I politely declined. There is a bit of logic that is not immediately apparent in my choosing the "D" though DallasRed. First is the knowledge that I wouldn't insult all my Republican friends by running as a Republican. It would be such a singular contrived and dishonest act that I would have absolutely no chance or credibility running as such. Second, as a supporter of the airport and recognizing the efforts hyping the electorate on the local scene to vote against everyone associated with the airport 'ju
  19. This bit appears on tomorrows' work session agenda: REPORTSFROM COMMITTEES & DEPARTMENTS: Jason Phillips re: Ordinance on Citizens wishing to speak at Board of Commissioners Meetings. I hope we are not looking at another slam-bam moment. As I look at the citizens wishing to speak policy, what I do see is a direct advantage of the incumbents in each race as candidates or their spokespersons are prohibited from speaking. Incumbents, as they sit on the board are able to apparently talk to their hearts content. Now I don't hold out any real hope that the commission will expand the
  20. I think I'll stick with the name on my birth certificate: George Patton Hughes. And that is your right, Newsjunky. The funny thing though is I think I'm the only candidate in post 2 that is standing up for honoring contracts, promoting a change in process that will bring new openness and involvement to the public and suggesting a real way to limit the expansion of the airport to potentially monstrous proportions by establishing a process and time when a public vote would be required. The incumbent, on the other hand, wants to stop works in progress, throw away a million dollars in
  21. Thank you subby: I must say I know you a lot better than some of the folks who've been around a while. Ditto Guard Dad: As far as solo's comments ... I think her name may say it all. George Patton 'Pat' Hughes (aka: pubby)
  22. Thanks I like you too, rockysmom ... and you got to know - both of you - have to know that some of this is really tongue in cheek For you, Stradial, I'll use Willie's version instead of Ray's
  23. Interesting how this topic has gone. It actually appears to me there is more than one topic here including the one that raised at the end of the topic asking if candidates are who they say they are and also the allegation that folks are beating around the bush. Of course the first topic involved the posting of links of dubious credibility and we didn't beat around the bush about them, we deleted the links as quickly as we saw them because we didn't think they were true. The second involves this most bizarre thought that somehow someone is pregnant as well as a passel of women being
  24. Well ceejay ... I can see you've been hitting the bottle too, huh? Oh, you're not. I thought for sure you were considering how rudely and with zero solid information you felt compelled to throw out that slanderous observation against a friend of mine. Yes, I know it is an absurd and baseless accusation and I apologize for leveling it at you even if I did so only to show that I will stand up for my friends too. I would recommend that you stay on topic. Also, please try, if you can to be more truthful. I mean if you're going to lie about being clueless, don't come back and say:
  25. I think folks should remember a couple of things. Being the owner and having moderation responsibilities on pcom are not going to go away because I'm running for office. I am not going to be a pushover in this job - my full time pursuit - because I am seeking a second job as a post commissioner. I actually think winning the post would allow me to do both better but the task I have here, by its very nature, requires that I state what I think and do what I do with the important element being the the truth of the news presented. I'm sure perfection has eluded me but I do try to do w
