  1. Target defends Black Friday hours amid protest Now I read this story and a few thoughts come to mind: * How is 11 p.m. on Thanksgiving "too early" of a start time to workers who want to spend Thanksgiving with their families? * Why does this Target employee think that "All Americans should be able to break bread with loved ones and get a good night's rest on Thanksgiving"? To me, if you can't handle working on holidays, you either need to find a job where you're not going to work on holidays, or not work at all. I wonder what this guy (and others) would think if all cops, f
  2. I'm not going to argue against you, but I wanted to throw this at you: So Occupy Wall Street is angry because CEOs are making millions. Let's say a CEO makes $4.5 million. One could argue that if they'd just work for half a million, that difference of $4 million could fund 100 jobs with $40,000 salaries a piece. In your scenario, you'd refuse to get out of the way to allow a company to create "a few hundred" jobs. Aren't both scenarios here a case of "the needs of the many" outweighing "the needs of the few"? If you compare the two scenarios, you'd be losing a whole lot less th
  3. I don't see how limiting someone's term would be conducive to our form of democracy as it stands now. Shouldn't one have the freedom to serve the public as long as he/she wants and is able to? Yes, the longer you're in the system, perhaps the more likely you are to learn how to game it, or the more likely you're in someone's pocket. But that doesn't mean newcomers can't be owned in the same way. If you have term limits, you're still going to have political parties and community and business leaders grooming their next candidates. So you still have candidates that can be or are influenced
  4. I guess that's why Tom Brokaw calls boomers the "Greatest Generation," right? Way to pigeonhole an entire generation of Americans, many of whom are much more hard working than a great deal of today's adults.
  5. It's great you cited your source, but you really should put quoted material in quotes and attribute it to the author.
  6. Is it just me, or is TP so intent on imaging Obama getting frisky with millionaires? Maybe he really wants to see some HOT DEMOCRAT ON REPUBLICAN ACTION.
  7. I've never stayed in a hostel, nor am I trying to be hostile. I'm just telling it like it is.
  8. He just gave you one of his greatest hits—his oft-used quote from William T. Sherman. What more do you want?
  9. TP, since I OBVIOUSLY know less about economics than you do, tell me what the personal savings rate is, because I read that term and it implies to me that the rate is what people choose to put into savings, not a measure of how much money they have to save. If I'm on the money, so to speak, then how can you say that Reaganomics is the culprit if individuals are choosing to save less?
  10. You've brought nothing to the table to refute, because: a. You continue to show us a chart which does not source where its statistics came from, and if they are facts as you call them, then you should easily be able to provide the source that provided them. And b. If these are indeed true, then there is no need to refute them. They're statistics. You can't really refute them, unless you're able to refute how they were calculated. Again, if this is the truth, BIG DEAL. Show us proof that all the top earners are cheating the American people and we'll talk. People complain over w
  11. There's nothing to debate or refute when you still can't provide a chart that cites its sources. For all I know, someone made up this chart.
  12. Oh, you do get debate over what you post, but with those who disagree (like me) you just tend to accuse of ignoring your "facts" (which, at least with your pie chart, remain unsourced) or responding with our emotions instead of logic and "U-N-D-E-R-S-T-A-N-D-I-N-G."
  13. The issue we're talking about here isn't driving—it's freedom of speech. A law could be passed to make flashing illegal, sure, but that doesn't mean it's absolute and free from any legal challenge. And even today, the free speech defense is being used in cases where people are ticketed for warning other drivers of speed traps by flashing their lights. From the Orlando Sentinel, Aug. 26, 2011 (http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/2011-08-26/news/os-headlight-flash-cop-warning-20110826_1_speed-trap-florida-cops-ticket): Alexis Cason was on her way to school one morning when she spotted
  14. Yes, but a state government can't create an unconstitutional law, nor can they violate the rights and freedoms given to you by the U.S. Constitution.
  15. I'm just hoping someone out there will receive some U-N-D-E-R-S-T-A-N-D-I-N-G one of these days.
  16. What I've always heard argued, and I believe it, is that this is truly a First Amendment issue. Yes, flashing your lights is an action, but it's an action with an implied message; hence, it's speech. Therefore, under the First Amendment, your right to warn others of an officer running radar is, or at least should be, protected speech. Others may argue that it's not protected speech because it can be dangerous, perhaps comparing it to yelling "fire" in a crowded movie theatre. But if anything, flashing your lights is just the opposite, as it's promoting greater safety rather than panic.
  17. If they're not smart enough to vote for their own best interests, why should we be surprised that they're in the bottom 50 percent, as you're always so quick to point out? And are you arguing here that poor people shouldn't vote?
  18. So are lobbyists who fight for higher teacher pay or more funding for cancer research evil? Wouldn't many in your bottom 50 percent benefit from the efforts of those lobbyists?
  19. Yeah, like Starbucks has a bulletin board where people can post stuff.
  20. Looking for suggestions of places to go in Paulding that have physical bulletin boards on which community members can post flyers, business cards, etc.
  21. Not sure if this works with carriers other than AT&T, but I forwarded the message to SPAM (7726), which then asks you for the phone number that sent the text. That's probably the best think you can do with phone-based text. Now texts from the internet to your phone, you'd probably have to pursue other avenues for reporting that,
  22. I've considered what you've written in this or any other thread because it's the same thing over and over—the rich are evil and somehow keeping the middle and lower class down. Your metaphor utilizing piranha and barracuda is just another attempt to take digs at the rich in this country and your argument that they're somehow keeping the cost of education high. It looks like you're able to edit your posts after you make them, so why not add your additional comments to your original comment instead of replying to your own material? Or perhaps you can gather all your thoughts before making a
