  1. Of course all groups lose funding at times. My assertion is that it only seems to become news when a conservative person group is losing money because of their beliefs (like advertisers dropping Limbaugh) or when conservative groups taking money from a liberal group (like the Komen-Planned Parenthood debacle). If you can find an example of the mainstream media highlighting the reverse of either situation, I'm all ears. Yes, I see the connection with the Trayvon Martin case. The fact is that seemingly is the only case at this point that has led some to raise a stink about the law. Does
  2. Love it when the media reports that so-and-so is pulling funding for X like it's some big news. But of course it's news, right? Because X is almost always a conservative person or cause and they're absolutely, positively wrong—someone pulling their funding totally proves it. Or on the flip side, it's someone or something pulling funding for a liberal cause, like Planned Parenthood, and so whomever's cutting the funding is in the wrong.
  3. Is the outdoor antenna a necessity? I was in Radio Shack today and saw a small antenna that could pick up VHF/UHF and HD FM for $25. I'm looking into it because I don't have a cable outlet in the study and can't get one installed since the cable system is somewhat old. If the small antenna alone could pick up Atlanta stations, that's all I really want.
  4. If you can't defend your opinions after you offer them, maybe you shouldn't make them in a public forum. And maybe you shouldn't get butthurt when people call you on your BS.
  5. But don't you remember Zoo telling us that this will lead to strip searches of all those leash law offenders? If you're wanting to change the title of the topic, you're going to need to cite some experts there, buddy.
  6. The story quoted, what, two professors? That's two out of thousands of professors. How is their opinion worth any more than any other professor's? And how is their opinion worthy of overturning a Supreme Court decision? If granting law enforcement this power was so bad, why did a majority of justices rule in favor of it? The fact is that anything can be abused. Cops could use their firearms willy nilly, but do they? No, because there is a system of checks and balances. If an officer uses a gun, he/she has to document its use and justify it to their superiors. The same would, I think,
  7. What does this have to do with the thread at hand? Stop trying to threadjack. I'd be interested to see how much these machines cost.
  8. And who are these so-called experts you're referring to?
  9. Groundbreakings nowadays don't often precede work being started. Not sure if there's some logistical reason behind that or just that they end up being scheduled later.
  10. I'm not really following your argument that enacting a FairTax would increase fuel, home and other prices, and essentially cause this doom-and-gloom scenario you're preaching. Even if prices on computers went up, companies would likely step in to subsidize them. Did you straight-up buy your cell phone? Probably not. Your $400-$600 phone (it is, of course, essentially a very small computer) was likely subsidized by your carrier.
  11. To use Warhol's art as an example is ridiculous—few people can buy "high art" now anyway, and it's not a necessity. The same can be said for high fashion—yes, it's crazy how much some people pay for clothing just because it has a certain name on it, but if you're willing to buy clothing without a designer tag on it, it's fairly affordable. Now if you'll excuse me, I have some Fabergé eggs to polish.
  12. When you eliminate the cost of adhering to the current system of tax laws, prices will go down—maybe not immediately, but they will. So the cost of things shouldn't change too much. As for the argument of penalizing the act of purchasing, perhaps if we as a country had the mindset of setting aside money instead of spending it at will to get what we want, we'd probably all be in a much better place (and that goes for individuals as well as government). Are credit cards a necessity in this country? I'd argue they're not. If you're having to use them to "get by," then there are probably some
  13. That's another thing the people who denounce profits don't understand. Profits don't always mean CEOs are bringing in more hundreds to light up their cigars with, or more millions for another yacht—everyday people rely on those profits for the reasons you mention and more.
  14. I can't disagree with you here. I mean, how would you do it if you had to pay state sales tax for online purchases. Do you pay the full sales taxes to two states—yours and the state the company is based in (if they have a sales tax)? Do you pay a sales tax to the state the item(s) are shipped from? Do you pay half the rates of the two states? While the story says we really should be reporting to the IRS the sales tax we're not paying on internet purchases, I think it's an undue burden on consumers and businesses. Why should I be forced to keep track of the taxes I'm not paying if there's n
  15. While the argument of "taking jobs away" might have merit, the money I may save by shopping online I could easily spend by eating out at a local restaurant or spending elsewhere locally, so in that sense, I could be creating jobs or "breaking even" in the grand scheme of things. Outsourcing takes jobs away from Americans, too, but for the company, that could mean better wages for workers stateside, or more money for innovation, etc. Not to get all Neal Boortz on you, but jobs don't belong to anyone but the company.
  16. While I don't know if he's ever denied it and there's plenty of evidence to support that, in his world, you're totally in the wrong for pointing that out because you're obviously trying the maintain the status quo, destroy individuality, put down the proletariat, and really, really hate babies and puppies. And do you believe that to be the case with law enforcement and active duty military personnel?
  17. I'm definitely not defending Zimmerman, and I'm sure you're trying to either be sarcastic or tongue-in-cheek, but when you're calling this story "funny as hell" and making numerous comments with smiley faces when there's A DEAD TEENAGER involved, you're being crass, insensitive, and downright disrespectful of the dead. Maybe everyone else has you on ignore, and maybe someone will respond to me to defend your right to say anything on here, but I found it amiss that no one has called you out on this.
  18. Man, just think of how awesome the last school board meeting would have been if anyone had had the huevos to tell administrators and board members in a public meeting how they thought about the situation instead of hiding behind a screen name and avatar and mouthing off.
  19. Can't believe no one's shared this news: Arrest Made in Macland Road Murder Case: http://dallas-hiram.patch.com/articles/arrest-made-in-macland-road-murder-case

  21. I'm still trying to figure out that point of that whole topic.
  22. I don't know what your basing your assertion that people would work in such a place on, and minimum wage laws make $0.21/hour pay rates impossible in America.
  23. You have a point, but I still have to see the same recycled topics in the Recent Topics page, topics where he tells me to "stand up and talk back." Isn't it ironic that he tells us not to let anyone control us, yet he consistently commands us to do something? And when he has a viewpoint to preach, if you happen to disagree with him, you're wrong, a bigot, or something else. People should be free to express their viewpoints, but they should also respect the viewpoints of others. And if one expresses their viewpoint, they have to be prepared to defend it. If TP wants to tell me to stand
  24. Van Heusen shirts aren't necessarily cheap, but being sold at The Gap of Kohl's doesn't make them a draw for millionaires either. I've never paid more than $25 for a VH dress shirt. Not sure if that means I'm avoiding any high-end lines they have, though. I don't know how many people in America would be satisfied for working for such a company for 21 cents an hour. And that wage, though low to us, might be a lot to someone in Southeast Asia. I wish companies would have all their jobs here, but I realize that outsourcing makes prices here much lower. Look at Apple. If their iPads weren'
  25. So what's your take on it? Do you think there should be an allowance for senior pranks?
