  1. I don't know about early ballots, but everyone that has ever worked at a poll knows that the electronic results are known at about 7:15pm at which time they are posted on the door of the precinct so that everyone can see - so it's 8:30 now...what gives? when is Paulette going to let us see the results?
  2. wait, what? they had to remark the ballots? um, is Paulette helping to 'remark" the ballots?
  3. K - but the point remains. No means no.
  4. I'm still a little iffy on the legality of requiring a county that voted "no" to a tax to be taxed anyway because other larger counties voted yes. I understand they are calling us a "region" but we didn't agree to be a "region" either. I vaguely recall that we once went to war to prevent one government from taxing us against our will - yet here we are in Paulding about to be taxed by Fulton and Dekalb even if we say "no". Is it just me or does this seem illegal?
  5. I think the difference between performing the legal service that any client would expect of a defense attorney and shady back room deals are evident to most.
  6. wow. are you Valbuena? that is an interesting twist. well, you are right - it's all public record - I hope people read the record rather than your bizarre summation.
  7. thanks for the link - after reading into pages 2-3 I can see that Valbuena is worse than I first suspected. As for the charges/sanctions being dropped - that is merely the result of an "out of court settlement". He was clearly wrong in the opinion of the court and had to hand over some cash to stop the printing of the public records that would be career ending. Or, maybe you're right - the appeals court spent pages on detailing how crooked Valbuena and the other guy are as judges and then stated that the complainant was going to be due damages in further court hearings - but the complainant
  8. ******** I was at that graduation. You would have thought it was held in a third world country --but one of the student speakers was from (nearly) a third world country and her family was properly dressed and quiet during the ceremony.
  9. we buy from these folks and tip a dollar. anybody know how they make their money? Should we be tipping more or are they making money on the sales? if so, it can't be much.
  10. Maybe he didn't do anything technically wrong, who cares? A court of people outside the realm of Paulding said it looked fishy. I don't want a judge that is so close to crossing the line of "fishy" that it takes a year to sort it out. Let's find someone that stays far away from crossing that line. Such a person might not even be running this time around, but I'll be glad to spend the next few elections throwing out incumbents until a suitable one is found.
  11. It cost him my vote...so that's one. From the looks of this thread, mine will be the only lost vote so I think he'll be ok. From what I understand, the court did not say that the facts as stated in the news story were false. The court said there was enough evidence supporting those facts to warrant another hearing of the matter. I do not know the outcome of the second hearing; and don't care, if it was questionable enough to smell fishy to a court of outsiders I'd just rather have someone else in that office.
  12. Pubby: What is being complained about is progress. They see the county spending that money ... in the case of the airport in total ... at least as much as has been cut from local spending over the past four years ($30+ million). They'd rather have their jobs than an airport; they'd rather have their jobs than a sidewalk and they'd rather than have their jobs than a fountain. ************************************************************************************************************* Well, said..."they" are the truly selfish, self-centered and just mean spirited people to rather have
  13. You have unwittingly made the point of very many...why are my tax dollars in use to improve the life of the residents of Dallas and not me (by remaining in my pocket for me to spend)? Why not have the citizens of Dallas band together and pay themselves for whatever it is that they want - thereby making it none of my business? Let's use your math here: I would like a new car, why don't we do a SLOST to pay for that? It would benefit the community and society in general because it would cut down on the use of foreign oil because it would be more fuel efficient. It would polute less because
  14. LPPT: okay smarties....name one so-called waste of money...blah, blah, blah Forum: The sidewalk to nowhereThe fountain on the Square The New Courthouse The Airport Several NEW parks New Library LPPT: Okay, but other than those...those don't count. Just name something specific...but not those. Okay? not those. now, see if you can name one...see if you can
  15. oh, I thought you meant something like child labor rentals. Because, really, who in the world wants to "feel like a parent"? I think child labor is a better idea.
  16. hey it's not too late - that list is old - they are still handing it out. I got a kid or three that you could use for a small fee.
  17. There is nothing wrong with SBA; however, 7a loans are most often used for businesses with inadequate collateral. Loans with association to "stimulus spending" are these special program loans. I could "enlighten" you more about how great there are - but it's just too depressing.
  18. ************************************************************************************************************** I understand completely that it is a "loan" - there were both loans and grants made as part of the stimulus - as well as some other type HUD or SS program not called either a loan or a grant - I think it's called "here's some money". Whatever, most of us understand "newspeak" and know the score - call it what you want, that money's gone.
  19. O-M-G you've hit on the solution! We'll do public service announcements reminding everyone that murder is a crime!!! overnight fix! well done.
  20. it's old, from this past spring, so there's a lot missing, but it's still interesting: http://projects.propublica.org/recovery/locale/georgia/paulding go to site above and scroll to bottom to see the listings. Just so you're clear...if you end up smashing something at your house after seeing the list...it's not my fault. Some of the businesses are hidden amongst confusing names, LLC's and such - but it's all public info if you've got a few minutes to search it out. The 1.9 million was given to a guy named "Hemant Patel" spend a minute on the web and you'll find him at the Pauldi
  21. what's with the giant blue font? you're killin' me over here. Use your "indoor voice" or go outside.
  22. Out of curiosity, I spent a few minutes to find local companies that had taken stimulus money. You remember - the money that was supposed to save jobs or create them. I was shocked. $1.9 million to a Hiram hotel. Nearly $800,000 was given to the company that owns a Hiram gym, $300K+ to a gymnastics school. Just picking out those three, representing 3 million of your tax dollars, I bet we didn't get 10 new jobs - and those were probably minimum wage.
