  1. There are mandatory divorce classes if kids are involved. Maybe an ounce of pervention should be in order...
  2. That's interesting. I'd be curious to know which one and how well it's working out.
  3. Do you have a link for this deal? Our Feb break trip is veing rescheduled
  4. Lunch and connections classes aren't a waste of time, they're simply non-academic (if you consider academics to be reading, social studies, science, and math). Connections consists of gym, band, chorus, art, computer, spanish, home ec, and whatever else the school system offers (they vary by school and by system). I'm sure that, to an extent, these are required by the state and every middle school in GA (and probably the country) spends about this much time in connections.
  5. All Paulding county middle schools run that schedule.
  6. School starts at 8:40am and ends at 3:35pm. Right off the bat you only have 6 hours and 55 minutes that the students are in school. 20 minutes is lunch (+ 5 minutes to walk 30+ kids there and back). 90 minutes is connections/specials/electives. That knocks you down to 5 hours. Then you have class change transitions, locker breaks, and restroom breaks.
  7. Since when? About 4 1/2 of it is spent on academics....before you take away time for class disruptions, mandatory fire drills, visitors, attendance, etc. I'm okay with students not doing homework.....but my concequences are fairly immediate and misrable. It would suck for your kid to have a lunch detention with me because their parent told them they didn't have to do their homework because it was a weekend or because something else was more important. Zeros are meaningless, so I don't give them. My work gets done....whether it's on the student's terms or on my terms. I've had students refu
  8. This thread makes me want to work harder on my reading comprehension skills. I hope I inspire others.
  9. I left a few minutes before 6 today.....with a bag full of work.
  10. Wow, this thread is mean spirited. But I guess it's not talking about someone behind their back if you do it out in the open. For shame.
  11. Well, I gave homework today too. I don't think it's busy work. We did something new yesterday and today and I need to know that the kids can do it without me standing over their shoulder.
  12. Oh, and if you want to talk about "disgusting" in tv.......wtf is up with the testicular cancer commercial on CBS? It's about V-day and the dude says, "why give diamonds, when you can give the family jewels?" creep.me.out. http://www.cbs.com/cbs_cares/testicular_cancer/
  13. I don't see where they failed their children.....this must be the difference in our view points. I've also not raised children, as you have, and this [driving] is beyond the scope of my parenting experience. I just want my kid to wipe her own ass after she uses the bathroom. And, like you, I would rather have my small, over-mortgaged house than have to suffer the tragedy that these people went through. I'm sure they feel the same way.
  14. Who ABC chooses to be worthy of a new house is between the network and their advertisers. IMO, this family doesn't 'deserve' a house any more than any other families aired on the show. Texting and driving laws have gone into effect in the last 6 months or so in GA. Texas has no such law in effect, though it's on the docket for this legislative session. As far as spending their money on awareness, my experience with teens is that they generally don’t listen unless they can make an emotional connection. We can talk to them until we’re blue in the face, but there needs to be something t
  15. The house came after they started the BUST program. Their service to the community most likely isn't contingent on the building of this house. And, before their daughter died, they didn't have a reason to raise awareness. I don't go around raising awareness for Morgellons Disease. When I know someone with it or have it myself, I may be more inclined to raise awareness. In the meantime... And I wish more people would learn lessons from life's mistakes and try to keep others from making similar mistakes.
  16. The family launched a campaign to stop this type of behavior. I think they're trying to make the best out of a tragedy. http://www.kcbd.com/Global/story.asp?S=13511848 I don't watch for other reasons, the least of which is the stories of the families being "helped."
  17. Judgmental much? Is every party that you (and all the commentators in this thread) consider extravagant really all about the parents? My daughter wants a particular party for her upcoming birthday. It’s not cheap, but I’m letting her have it anyway. Why? Because I can afford it. I have attended parties that I KNOW cost $1000. The parents were well within their rights to throw that party. The kid wanted certain things for their birthdays. Sure, it’s a lot of money, but the parents could afford it. Who are you, or who is anyone, to tell someone how to spend their money
  18. There are 32 kids in my 2nd period class. I would be PISSED if I found out they were out of district COUNTY without consent. There isn't enough room for all of the kids who BELONG in the buildings. Paulding taxpayers shouldn't have to bare the burdens of family drama.
  19. I may or may not have been visiting facebook pages
  20. I'm going to write a book some day..... This is mild.
  21. I wonder if they're going to put it on a timed delay for Steven Tyler
  22. Some places have party rooms, but they're not cheap. There's a pavillion at Paulding Meadows that's nice.
  23. How much are we talking in fees? I can help him out.
