Open question, What will be the next crisis in Paulding?

Thanks for the info. I think I will keep my thoughts on the specifics to myself. That debate has been rehashed too many times on here already. -
Open question, What will be the next crisis in Paulding?

After a little more thinking on this voting garbage, it's obvious. The decision was made by the same person who can't get my voting rights fixed. You ask fixed, yep, recently found out I live in the city of Hiram, not unincorporated Paulding. I brought this fact up to the city folks and they said they would contact the county elections office and get it corrected. Well it's been over a month, but no new voters registration card. Yeah I know it's the government, nothing happens quickly. Still grumpy, but how hard could it be to change my info. I guess the elections office is too busy mak -

Boy, I hope you are wrong, but I don't see any evidence that you are. I will say our homes values are improving considerably, thus the increased values will stall the transition somewhat. -

I just read about the screening on-line. Sorry, I find this to be really stupid. Given the size of that building, I find it quite ridiculous that they cannot find a location that does not require the screening. I understand that it is a government building, but this is horse manure. Sorry, bad night of sleep, thus grumpy, but I repeat this is stupid. -
I know many of you are very active in the community, whether you attend council meetings, commission meetings, chamber meetings, sit on steering committees, and many other insider types of events. I am just wondering what may be the next crisis topic. As for this thread, please leave the airport out of it. From the outside looking in, I still see a need for higher priced subdivisions (especially in the southern portion of the county). I am not sure the economy out here is conducive yet, but I have always contended that the higher the home price, the more affluent and the more potential

PAULDING RESIDENTS SCORE HUGE WIN!
bigplay replied to Concerned Pldg Resident's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Ok! I really don't know all the details, but here is what I know. WE have an airport. Why not utilize the asset to its utmost potential. Commercializing the asset is an option. Stealing clients from McCollum is an option, or simply run it like a backwoods landing strip is an option and is the current function. It is my understanding our current backwoods landing strip is not profitable. So why not look at the other options? Oh because you the public got this airport shoved down your throat. Well, someone was elected, these elected folks followed procedure according to the courts, and no -
Just think, 180+ years later the Indians of GA can recoup their land and become the richest people in the state. I find that quite comforting!
-
That's why the Indians plan makes so much sense. We pay a much smaller portion. Of course GA has to approve the compact. Gov Deal's middle name is Monty.

Heck yeah! Runway for a huge parking lot exhibition area, hangar for maintenance and lots of green space to build the casino and Paulding Conference Center. Just not sure who will build the tunnel for all the conservatives to sneak in and drink, gamble, and watch partially naked ladies serve drinks. Oops, I know the cousins of the teetotalers.
-
Pretty much agree. Only and only if they could somehow steal a good number of McCollum patrons. Of course then the grumpies would think it sucks because of the air traffic. Some kind of commercialization is the only way to let it prosper without our money bailing it out.
-
Well I guarantee we can recruit the kids who fly down Nebo to race there.
-
Now that is a good idea. Let's use the hangar for the garages and the runway for the drag strip. We are in business.
-
Well Whitey, that is quite an oxymoronic statement in your post. You call the airport our largest asset, but you oppose expansion. What? Assets are meant to be utilized, so if no expansion, I guess we can use the current runways for a huge flea market. Without expansion, do you really think our largest asset will continue to operate without additional tax dollars to subsidize the losses? Probably not, thus you will complain about these subsidies too. Expansion provides a possibility towards moving this asset as you say into an asset, otherwise all I see it as is a future liability.

It may be time for something light and fun.

Light and fun you say, all I can say is, wives of football geeks get their annual five month vacation in two weeks. Take the kids and run to Stone Mountain. Don't look back, do not check the bank account (he paid his fantasy football dues so charge it), and don't come home until each Tuesday after all football games are over. -

My son is mad at Mrs. Obama's Healthy Hunger garbage
bigplay replied to bigplay's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Funny thing happened earlier, my son dumped a few bags of reduced fat chips out of his book bag. What a pathetic looking bag of chips. I think ants would even turn them down. This program is bullcheeze. Sorry if that's a George Carlin bad word, but I have lots more if allowable. Oh yeah I will eat these same chips, but I am 100 pounds overweight based on guidelines so I do it for my own health. My son is 35 pounds under where he should be so why would he want a baked chip that tastes like another Carlin word! -

I agree those bitching should look in the mirror. My son bitched and we are taking care of that. My issue is related to the kids who normally got their best meal of the day at school. From the sounds of many so far, these are the kids getting screwed. Their home life is partially broken already, so now the government changes one of their luxuries. Yeah school lunch a luxury, but for these kids, a full belly was something to look forward to. Not sure that is happening or allowed nowadays. I have seen numerous articles discussing this issue. I hope these kids are not left out. -
My son and I had an interesting conversation yesterday. He claimed to be tired a lot lately. I mentioned he needs to eat more to provide his body energy. At that point he shocked me and went on a rant about the Healthy Hunger program. Basically he said lunches suck and there are no avenues for snacks. My son is an active kid who needs snacks healthy or not to get through the day. Plus, he is complaining that lunch cannot be more than 300 calories. We will be sending snacks with him to get him through the day, but this program cannot be meeting the needs of active poor kids who are und

Who else got annexed into Hiram and didn't know?
bigplay replied to bigplay's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Here is a website that shows the actual boundaries for the city of Hiram. http://www.maptechnica.com/us-city-boundary-map/city/Hiram/state/GA/cityid/1339076 Portions of Creekside were annexed in around 1996 so the clubhouse could sell alcohol, thus the annexation is not new. The funny thing is, most of us early residents of Creekside thought we knew the imaginary line. Boy were we wrong. Plus the city didn't know the line either. I have never had the chance to vote in city elections. I have passed this info on to the City Clerk. Now I have to inform my neighbors they need to registe -
Who else got annexed into Hiram and didn't know?
bigplay replied to bigplay's topic in RECENT TOPICS
It is starting to look like the county and the city have no clue who is in Hiram at least around the Creekside area. Doing some more research online, it appears I am in the city from a 1996 annexation, but I have never received the right to vote for my new fair city of Hiram. My voters registration was always simply Paulding County. The end result should be interesting. -
Ok, just got a letter saying I have not signed up for city of Hiram's waste program. Well, as far as I know, I live in unincorporated Dallas, but the city border is only 500 yards away. My neighbor comes over bitching about the same thing. She calls and the lady says, you would have known if you attended the meetings. We look at each other What F'ing meetings. I call the city and they say the Paulding tax assessor identifies us as Hiram. I call Paulding county tax office and they say it is happening a lot. They tell me to talk with community development. Called them, no answer yet.

Ok, asking for reconsideration, which means appeal is simply BS. Why, the decision was unanimous. There is no leg to stand on and beg. Talk about a waste of county money. If these folks appeal, then the citizens involved should be charged the county cost of defending the appeal. Sure the elections will change the leadership of the county, but obviously these decisions actual proved the past elected officials acted within the boundaries of their role, whether some believe it or not. Given this revelation, the new elected officials should take a long look at the numbers associated with
