  1. The reports now are that the shooter was just mentally unstable and the whole Islamic thing was not his motivation. He even claimed allegiance to competing Muslim groups that are fighting each other when he called 911. Don't know if this is the official idea but it looks like he was just crazy and not an Islamic terrorist.
  2. I'm in Fort Walton Beach and the forecast is no rain tomorrow. Let's hope. I've not gotten any sun in the 2 days we've been here.
  3. Shrimp three ways from the hotel restaurant, and it is surprisingly good. Fried, boiled and stuffed. Cole slaw and fries. The margaritas made everything taste much better. Hoping tomorrow will be calmer seas and the rain will be gone. Finally. Flordia needs to be better to me.
  4. Not. The storms are nonstop. I was hoping for some sun and rest on the beach before I start my planning for next year's classes. Florida is not the fun I was hoping for.
  5. Shrimp and some veggies. The shrimp was on sale at Kroger and on my budget, I grab it while I can.
  6. Yes, I make mistakes when in a hurry, and am using cell phone. It happens. I won't say anything about the name calling because most see the character it shows on your part. I don't have to defend my classes or the textbooks either because the end result is that most will understand that. It is like my grandparents and parents said about the segregationists back in their day. They didn't have to convince those people of the truth to make the world a better place because they only had to outlive them. The extreme views you hold are dying out. America is getting more brown, more aware, more glob
  7. Kansas is not doing very well. http://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/business/national-business/article78035277.html Cutting education is disasterous and mortgages the future.
  8. Our educational system is good. Is it the best? Well, no. When factored all extraneous things, we're right there at the top. Other nations don't educate everyone like we do, and they "track" kids. Most nations' formal education as we have stops at 8th grade and then those that can hack college go into prep work and those that can't go into some sort of apprentice program. Your nephew may not be suited for college level math and science but is probably better suited for other areas. That doesn't mean the school system did poorly but it does mean his area is just not college level in science and
  9. I wish I had a Smacked Head emoticon. The cost of the resevoir is to have a water supply.
  10. Taxes are not always a bad thing. Having clean water and an educational system require taxes, for example.
  11. I did mean it as a compliment! He did some good stuff. I'm just saying that a lot of what he did is pretty mainstream now, but when he first did it, I'm sure everyone thought he was some kind of crazy.
  12. While I consider Prince's music "old school" by modern standards, I don't think anyone can deny he knew how to do cool and sexy. Hot! I overheard a few much older folk talking about his passing this morning at the grocery store and one of them said he was "weird and even changed his name to that funny sign at one point." Uh, excuse me. That "funny sign" was a business move of pure genius because it put Warner Brothers on the spot when trying to promote his music, music that he and the label disagreed on the process. Genius! It gave him control by lowering his revenue for the label, making his
  13. You have a right not to be discriminated against because of your religion. Unless this was a private placement agency that gets no government funding whatsoever, they broke the law. My neighbor just went through this and was denied an adoption because of his religion. He had to hire an attorney but when he did, the agency changed their tune. Just like the article I read in Colorado where a couple was denied an adoption because they were gay and the judge ruled that is not allowed.
  14. That's why we have laws against perverts in the restrooms already. That makes this new law in NC so unnecessary except to make it as difficult as possible on trans people.
  15. How quaint. Ignoring the constitution is not the same as life not being fair. To each their own.
  16. How is an adoption agency exercising religion by refusing to adopt a child to someone who doesn't believe like they do? That is discrimination against you because of your religion and adoption is not practicing religion. You should have sued. Changing a birth certificate is a barrier put up by NC.
  17. Why should a trans person have to do that just to go to the restroom? That is a barrier to life other people don't have to do.
  18. I have looked it up. There are no instances like you've said where the existing laws didn't already cover it. Not a single one. So why are you applauding a law that was only passed to make life difficult for trans people, who only want to go to the bathroom and not be harassed? Who were the people that told you the votes were there? I just saw the news report that said the votes were not there so someone is lying.
  19. Why should have to go through that process to change their birth certificate? Looks to me like NC is just trying to throw up barriers to trans people.
  20. You're giving an example of a pervert in CA. Please explain how the current law about perverts in NC is inadequate to deal with your example, and make this new law needed to deal with such situations.
  21. For the fourth time. If the current law already protects people from perverts doing what you say will happen, then why do we need this new law? Your example showed that current law already protects. So why is there a need for this law except to marginalize trans people?
  22. Let me say this a different way. It looks like the current laws dealing with perverts (in your example of a CA law) works just fine. I am asking how this new law is needed to correct any problems with the old law in NC. Said a different way, why is this new law needed since the old law dealt with any problems just fine. I am asking for you to give an example where the old laws did not work and made this new law necessary. Your example is hurting your point, not helping it.
  23. You're giving an example of a pervert in CA. Please explain how the current law about perverts in NC is inadequate to deal with your example, and make this new law needed to deal with such situations.
  24. You have linked to two questionable shock sites. You're deflecting the topic to a side issue. None of this has to do with North Carolina giving in to the bigotry and legalizing discrimination of a class of people. This is not helping your credibility.
  25. Maybe you just missed my question above, but could you give some examples where there have been "pretenders" who have been causing problems?
