They are events NOT results. It is simply a raw data clearinghouse. Those deaths could have been from a car accident, and if it got reported to the VAERS group, they would still add it as an adverse event. My point stands in that the argument of "if we don't use it someone will" is facetious at best. But the problem is that those on the "religious right" vote for politicians that oppose gay marriage, and thus they impose themselves in others bedroom. So if true Christians felt the way you do, they would not vote for politicians that ran on any type of gay marriage platform. Government has absolutely no place in the bedroom period. Unfortunately, that IS the state of the world. I don't think it is fair to automatically point fingers at those that want the ability to carry concealed anywhere and accuse them of being "bloodthirsty" or wanting to kill someone.
