operating a business that is losing money is totally unacceptable to me. If it's losing money, cut it loose, take a job somewhere. I don't have money to throw at it hoping to make it better. Even now, if it were costing me more to do what I do, I'd quit it. And we don't want that!!

Never have operated a business in the negative. Never plan to.

Sending out Christmas cards with a personal note in them. Plus got one client gift today. Note to Deewee: sorry, no convertible in my purchases today.

The first business my hubby and I had showed a profit the first year and every year after that. The second business we had did the same, even the year when he had ONE job all year. My business is showing a profit as well. Were we getting rich? Not at all. Keep in mind, during the time we had the first business we had three kids at home and a mortgage. I only worked part-time PART of that time and none at all the rest of the time. We still made a profit. And now, my income is a supplement to hubby's Social Security. It's still profitable. You might not see it that way.

Us, too. Except saving for kids college tuition. We were planning to put away enough that both youngest grandkids could go to college without having to get a single penny of student loans. You don't do taxes, do you?

http://www.epi.org/publication/growing-trade-deficit-china-cost-2-8-million/ According to the Economic Policy Institute, nearly 2.8 million US jobs have been eliminated or displaced since 2001 due to the widening US-China trade deficit. Of that number, 1.9 million of them were in manufacturing, a figure that represents nearly half of all US manufacturing jobs lost between 2001 and 2010. I still have to wonder why US automakers are filing for bankruptcy while foreign automakers are building plants in the US. What do they know that the US automakers don't? sales, service and consul

It was a great ride.

Hmmmm. $85 an hour and $115 an hour? Hubby used to make $1500 a day, regardless of how much he worked. The last job he went on he got $3500, $1500 a day for work which consisted of less than 2 hours during which time he didn't do as much as hit a lick at a snake and $1000 a day for two days travel. Sure wish he had been able to stick with it another 3-5 years. But he wasn't.

I guess I'm a bit different. I met LPPT's hubby long before I met her. And I used to see Pubby at lunch long before he ever knew who I was. But I do remember the first time I met LPPT.

Hmmmmm. Are ALL the offices decorated? Beautiful!

I hate to hear that. I've shipped things to Pensacola recently and USPS got there faster and cheaper than Fedex. I mailed something on a Friday with a requested Monday delivery. It got there on Saturday! At about 1/3 the cost of Fedex which would not have delivered until Monday. Oh well, I guess now I'll just hand deliver those papers to Pensacola.

Pcom rules: 7. Public posting of Private Messages is a no-no. The moderators do have discretion in this area but the general rule is keep Private Messages private. So, why and HOW would WE, the general viewing public of Pcom be able to read the messages that were sent to you. Not only is it against Pcom rules to post private messages, it is also very poor Internet etiquette to do so. BTW, it is fairly simple to block someone from sending you PMs and to ignore their posts on Pcom. Other than simply IGNORING them. And really??? Beach Bum? I've known her for almo

Laurie, not EVERY business is paying its executives outrageous amounts. Megacorporations perhaps but the small business person, like your hubby and Mr Dis and King Tux and Pubby and myself, barely show a profit if one at all. And these are the types of businesses that need to succeed in order to rebuild the economy. Certainly not the megacorporations and DEFINITELY not the government jobs. Small businesses have got to succeed in order for this country to succeed. It may not seem like it would be helpful to the overall economy to have a business like Mr Dis has. But a lawn care service

WOW! The first two posts from people who are among the best gifts to me. Great post Laurie!

it might be here: The Federal Reserve lends dollars to the European Central Bank which would in turn lend to European banks. The challenge was the rate at which the Fed and therefore the ECB lent was fairly high so banks were not taking advantage of this lending program. This new move reduces the cost it takes for European banks to borrow indirectly from the Fed by about a half percent. WTH are we bailing out EUROPE?

Your Phone Knows If You Have Been Naughty or Nice

one more reason to have a "dumb phone". Heck, T-Mobile (and Verizon and AT&T and Sprint) can't give us good enough coverage here at home for us to use a cell phone much. -

I try to leave coupons that I won't use, too. Don't get that many like we were given, so haven't ever done that. I will in the future, though. -
When my hubby and I started our first business, a machine shop, we were far, far from wealthy. We had three kids at home and I was a stay-at-home mom. We had a mortgage and bills like everyone else and lived paycheck to paycheck. We had been in our house for about 8 years so we had some equity. We got a home equity line of credit and used that to purchase our equipment, almost all of it very used. There were weeks our employees got paid but we didn't. There were times we would race each other to the mailbox to see if a check had come in. And many, many times I left out of Hiram like a b

She said she had spent a lot of money last week and got a lot of the coupons. We really appreciated it! Hope the inversion table helps both of us. I'd been wanting one for about a year but about two weeks ago my hubby decided he wanted to try it for his back pain. At this point, he's willing to try ANYTHING. Now, to get it out of the car, up the stairs and assembled.
