  1. OK, who's with me on a move to Alaska?
  2. And PLEASE people, don't believe the doctors when they tell you that you will NOT get addicted to narcotics. You have almost zero chance of not. My husband's pain specialist told him he would NOT get addicted to morphine and hydrocodone. He took them for almost two years. She also told him that if he ran out of the medication or decided not to take it any longer that it "wouldn't be bad". Look up "withdrawal symptoms" . You'll see what "not bad" is like. Much better to use pain medications for the short term only and in as low a dosage as possible. It's possible that you may just have
  3. The really sad thing is this is happening all around us with prescription drugs! Thanks Kittycat! Great post.
  4. Don't work in the medical field now. Just got back from my orthopaedist but he isn't hiring.
  5. The TOP of one of our trees is dead and in a neighbor's tree. It got blown off our tree during what we think was a tornado that went overhead but didn't touch down. It has been there for over two years and we have had several powerful winds come through just this year alone. It is STILL there (yes, we have looked in the last 24 hours). NOBODY can predict when a dead limb will fall out of a tree. It was a tragic accident. Trees fall, limbs fall and you can't predict when or where they will fall. Like I said, if the person who owned the daycare could have predicted that the limb woul
  6. ANYTHING to take the focus off the election.
  7. Kids are really resilient. Praying for a good outcome. Modern medicine and science have made great strides in helping brain injury patients, too.
  8. That karma is a real b**ch isn't it?
  9. It is a tragic accident. There is NO way in the world anyone could have envisioned that a tree limb would fall and hit a toddler playing on the playground. If the daycare owner could have predicted that, they need to get out of the daycare business and start buying and selling stocks as a daytrader because that pays a lot better than owning a daycare. NOBODY could have imagined what happened. I hope the little guy makes a full recovery. I haven't listened to the new today to know.
  10. Halloween is a movable holiday. Whatever day October 31 falls on is the day it falls on. Just like Christmas, New Year's, Fourth of July. We don't change them to suit a schedule. I grew up in the "Bible belt" (Smyrna) and we always had trick or treating on October 31 no matter what day of the week it happened to fall on. We just had to be finished earlier if it happened to be a school day the next day.
  11. Had a patient do the EXACT same thing to me when I was receptionist. She demanded that we see her son in spite of the fact that we only had two doctors to begin with and one was out of town and the other was trying to get finished with patients so he could make rounds and then go out of town. It was the day before Thanksgiving. Doc in the office gave me strict orders that if anyone called wanting to be seen that afternoon was to be told we were booked up, leaving early and that they would need to go to the ER. This patient's MOTHER was livid. So, I put her on hold, asked the doctor AGAIN
  12. Hubby and I don't need the candy but we always buy some in case we have trick or treaters. We had one last year. ONE kid not one group. I have nice cast iron pumpkins that I use inside in the windows on Halloween. Haven't bought a real pumpkin in probably 15 years. Maybe even longer. Oh, and stopping by Kroger to buy the candy today.
  13. That is something that causes more job loss than you would ever imagine! Sorry it happened.
  14. I was only fired once. I had just turned 22 (literally, like 2 days earlier) and it was my first job in a medical office. I was told when they fired me that it was because they decided, four and a half months later, that they wanted someone with experience. I was told "off the record" that they let me go to keep someone from disclosing the fact that the doctors had been in multiple affairs. The person who wanted my job knew the facts about the affairs, as did everyone in the office and likely the wives. She threatened to tell the wives if the doctors didn't fire me and give her the job.
  15. In a way, yes you are paying it but since federal unemployment taxes went up for all Georgia employers AND the state is not giving rate reductions, only a small amount of funding may come from general funds. And yep, the state blew unemployment funds on something else and had to borrow from the feds in order to pay unemployment.
  16. Giving or serving a two week notice has no bearing on whether or not one is eligible for unemployment. Unless one has access to the actual separation notice and the actual determination from the DOL, anything else is a guess as to what happened and why. Hubby and I had an employee who decided he wanted a paycheck but not to work for it, so he quit. Filed for unemployment which he would likely have been eligible for had we dismissed him due to lack of work (he had worked enough weeks to be eligible). It was denied because we stated on the separation notice as well as the information requ
  17. Laurie, you're not the one paying the taxes on that. The employer is the one doing that.
  18. It's a fact that trees lose limbs and on a regular basis. Some trees are worse than others. Pecans seem to be the worst. I expect my daughter will be cleaning up limbs and pecans for a week or more after the winds we have been having.
  19. Yep, it's all considered "payroll expense" one way or the other.
  20. Actually you can quit and be eligible if you have quit for a good cause, such as the company was doing something illegal and you refused to be part of it.
  21. It was a BEAUTIFUL day. Why shouldn't kids have been outside?
  22. It depends. A lot of what it depends on is how her employment terminates. If she is let go because there is no work for her, then yes she SHOULD be able to get unemployment. If she refuses work that is offered, she MIGHT not get it. Just depends on how the separation notice is worded and what, if anything, the employer says when they are contacted about her employment. Also, it depends on whether or not she is an EMPLOYEE. If she was there as a subcontractor, which happens a LOT in that particular type of job, she isn't eligible for it unless she can show that she was an employee and
  23. The rainfall during the flood here was more along the lines of 20 inches and not 8. And yes, that was scary!! My daughter lives in downtown Austell and was essentially stranded because ALL of the roads were flooded. It took me an hour to go from her house to mine and that's usually a 4 minute drive. Only one way possible to get from her house to mine for almost a week.
  24. Likely there won't be any issued because it really won't be a hurricane but more of a winter storm, like a nor'easter. Hurricanes and tropical storms are just that--tropical in nature. If the storm comes on shore as less than a tropical storm, there won't be any warnings for TROPICAL storms.
  25. The thing that really puzzles me is there are no active warnings or watches for the area it is "predicted" to hit, namely New Jersey. NONE. Only active warning is a tropical storm warning along the Carolina coast. They should have issued a watch if they expected it to make landfall along New Jersey tomorrow evening. Watches are issued 48 hours in advance of expected landfall or impact. Warnings are issued 36 hours in advance of expected impact. Hurricane Sandy does not have a discernible eye. It's more of a disorganized storm. Florida and Georgia played their cocktail pa
