I have been in similar situations a few times where someone was concerned about why I was where I was. I have always been able to communicate why I was there and make the other person feel somewhat less threatened.

So we are paying taxes every time we buy a ticket on Delta but Delta is doing the Paulette thing (with the blessing of the crooked politicians) and not paying their fair share. I smell a rat.
