  1. I assume a number of factors influence life expectancy. Not sure to what extent the available healthcare or its cost influences life expectancy. You may know more about this than I. Just for fun, I took a life expectancy test on the internet and it says I'll probably cause my children grief for another 36 years or so. I may live to be 98 which is how old my grandfather was. It did not ask me any questions related to my healthcare program. It just asked about the frequency of prostate exams.
  2. TJB, I sympathize about your Dad. However, I would hope that the situation would be different if he were ill today. But, is the government the solution? No way, in my opinion. Here is a link to a video by Dick Morris, whose new book has a chapter about healthcare: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUGrfKXDsSE
  3. Much of what you say makes sense. I strongly agree that the government should stay out of the healthcare business. Your suggestion that the private insurers come up with coverage for the uninsured has merit but I think this will be a complex solution. As you said, let the experts handle it. I agree, and the government is not the expert. Don't forget that a significant cost that doctors and insurance companies must pass along to patients is the cost of malpractice and other lawsuits against hospitals and doctors. Let's be sure to include serious tort reform in your list.
  4. My biggest issue is the government getting involved at all. As has been pointed out, they are the least efficient organization and have demonstrated incompetence in the handling of Medicare/Medicaid and Social Security. The government would cover the cost of any program they design using taxpayer's money rather than offering coverage based on what it costs. I think that there have been several suggestions about how to make health insurance less expensive and the one I like is to limit the amounts awarded in law suits and to make the losers pay all court costs. 5. I guess that you could shop the various companies online but you might benefit from one of the local agents on the board, Caped Crusader. As I recall, he is an independent agent.
  6. What kind of insurance?
  7. A straight lift from: http://www.aarpmagazine.org/health/8_myths...are_reform.html Myth 5: "I won't be able to visit my favorite doctor."
  8. Great guy. Johnny Carson would not have been as successful on the Tonight Show without Ed.
  9. Not sure WT cares. What he wants is healthcare paid by taxes on others. He, like many other Democrats, perceives that he will be paying less for better care than he gets today, which is a total fallacy.
  10. If you read many of his threads, WT is bitter about far more than healthcare...what a waste of energy it is to be bitter.
  11. Flush it by connecting the hose to the drain.
  12. Quite likely, yes, but give HD a call and ask to speak to whoever does the rekeying.
  13. I wondered about the pressure valve too but he did not mention a problem with cold water pressure.
  14. Is water pressure on the cold side fine? Is the outlet hot water tap from the tank wide open? (just askin'). Is pressure for hot water low everywhere? We had to replace ours this spring and we're pleased with it. I had Skyline do it for me. You can e-mail your questions to skylineseptic@aol.com and Lindsey, who installed our heater, will answer.
  15. Depends on the condition of the hardware. When we bought our house, the door hardware was tarnished and tacky. I bought all new hardware, had Home Depot rekey all the locks to match and then installed the ned door hardware myself. I am not sure what a locksmith would charge to rekey all your locks...depends on the number of locks and whether you would save a few bucks by removing all the locks yourself before he arrives.
  16. We have one of their "potholes" in the oval office.
  17. I-90 west of Illinois can be bouncy, especially in Minnesota - at least it was when I used to travel that route.
  18. I'll tell ya that you don't want to mess with the Gip. Noooo...
  19. I am tempted. I love to sing. Tonight is movie night at Acworth Beach. Gotta watch "Grease" from beside the 67 Coronet. Hey, can someone please record the Gip ringing a few and put it on YouTube?
  20. I'd love to go and see everyone but Saturday is cruise night for me and I've been addicted for years.
  21. What's the deal with the high notes? I just want her to hit them and stay on pitch.
  22. Darn, I am going to miss your sweet voice. I'll be watching "Grease" at Acworth Beach tonight. Do you know "Mac the Knife"? - Bobby Darin
