  1. I agree with this and have supported a tax based on consumption for many years.
  2. I understand what you are saying; however, our President and his administration play a large part in economic and other policy. Current economic policy is killing us and must be changed.
  3. Especially the ravager-in-chief in our White House....
  4. Replacing Obama in 2012 will be the beginning of the recovery.
  5. I am retired and do some contracting which has enabled me to buy some things I want and to postpone drawing social security. I have been saving and living beneath my means for many years and have accumulated a sizable nest egg from which we have drawn nothing so far. If my contract work went away, I would start drawing my SS and would begin planning timed withdrawals from my savings.
  6. Yes, but you live by the rules of common sense. Tim Geithner and his boss, P-BO, have no common sense.
  7. ...assuming there's an egg to fry.
  8. TP plagiarizes on a regular basis although I note that he copied the promo text at the bottom of Mr. Gray's article: Michael Gray on Win-Win
  9. My experience is that it is always less expensive to repair what you have than to buy another car. Also, most people will avoid a car that has a mechanical problem and most dealers will heavily discount what they will pay for a car with a problem in trade. If you do want to sell it, you have to get it fixed before you will get what it is worth. So fix it, and then if you still want to replace it, do so.
  10. Me...I sat beside you at a coffee at Audry's last year.
  11. SEP: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SEP-IRA You really might be ok to roll your money into a Roth. You are at your lowest earning years and your tax would be minimal.
  12. Carol!!! This is fantastic. Do you want a job in DC?
  13. I have rolled money into traditional IRAs several times. It is very straightforward. Sice you already have an IRA with Merrill, just roll it into that account unless you're unhappy with them and plan to make a change. You have a 90 day window to roll over your money once you withdraw it. I do not know whether you can do this but see whether you can open a SEP IRA. I opened one to minimize my taxes last year as a self employed / semi retired individual. Let me congratulate you for being responsible with your money and for saving when you are so young. Keep it up and you will be a multi
  14. My question regarding many of today's groups is this - is what they record actually singing or just different varieties of noise - esp. true of ©rap. Excellent selection of groups above!!
  15. Ugh. I can only imagine. Would not failing them have some impact?
  16. Most cars had no seat belts - yet, we survived. Both my parents and many of their friends smoked - we survived. There was no school bus - we walked. The vast majority of people worked and never thought of expecting a handout from the government. Sunday was a true day of rest. If you wanted something for yourself, you worked and saved for it. I cut lawns, painted houses, shoveled snow, washed and waxed cars, babysat and delivered newspapers at 5am (on my bike). My parents didn't buy me everything and anything I wanted. Yes, I got an allowance. I remember a dollar a week and
  17. I remember great cars, fantastic music, good friends. Ah, the good old days.
  18. I am in Cobb. It's great to be over 62 and exempt from school tax. I am waiting for a decision re my appeal of my assessment at this point. While not thrilled about the tax increase, it's effect on my taxes will be minimized.
