I am no constitutional scholar but, I think you would be hard pressed to stretch the role of government to include social programs such as SS and healthcare. I do agree re national defense. That is a key responsibility of the federal government. Police and fire services are local.

TP's copied quote was probably meant to insult you but he always copies and pastes them as though they are a general insult. Unless he mentions your name, he believes he can avoid responsibility for insulting an individual. TP specializes in general insults which in general target conservative ideology. I'm sure he means to direct most of them to the man in the mirror. When you read anything from TP, just consider the source. It is not the job of government to take care of us. All they should do is enable us to take care of ourselves. Just wait for the disaster that is Obamaca

Re the change to #5: If it was totally optional, would you opt totally out and not contribute to ANY retirement accounts I'd opt out of SS and manage my own private account. The reason we're in SS is because some of us do not trust others to be responsible. Whether others are or are not fiscally responsible is not only none of my business, it is ABSOLUTELY none of the government's business.

Now I see the poll.

If SS was an option, I would avoid it.
