  1. Pip, I'm just adding my condolences. I'm completely fed up with this situation, and like you I'm lost as to what to do. I would have hoped that the situation would have changed after the new board took office. And Zoo, you know full well what is going on and your attempt to paint corruption as a "Republican" problem is completely transparent and uncalled for in this thread. Everybody is aware of the party affiliation of the board, thank you for your concern.
  2. Check ypur skirt. Your ignorance is showing.
  3. People don't have an unlimited amount of money. Most will have to "stop" some things, and they always have. The decrease in spending on durables and consumables will slow the recovery dramatically.
  4. That would be -.7, and price elasticity only relates to the declining demand for gasoline vs. price increases. It's not even part of this conversation. Nobody is saying that people would stop buying gasoline at $4 per gallon. What we are saying is that they will stop spending on other things, and the price increase will force increased prices on everything transported by truck.
  5. Source? Or are you still making up "facts" like the price of gas not keeping up with inflation. Every dollar increase in the price of gas costs the average family #500 per year, and they reeduce other spending by $250. (UofF study). On top of that, groceries and other consumables would increase in price due to transportation costs. $4 gas could kill or at least stagnate an already fragile recovery.
  6. And the price of gaso;line has kept up with inflation.
  7. Bull. Gasoline has averaged around $2.39 in 2010 dollars (inflationdata.com) since 1918. So in 2008 it was extremely expensive on an historical basis.
  8. Good Luck Surepip, go get them us. I wish we could take that million out of their personal pockets.
  9. I reread my post again, and funny, I don't see anywhere that I said "no regulation or safety reviews or anything." Yup, a typical Pubby post, the Progressive agenda or nothing, the same false choice and ridicule instead of facts. Facts like the President's appointed panel of experts that said that there was no practical benefit to the environment or to safety in the imposition of a drilling moratorium. Facts that said that EXISTING safety regulations and industry standards were violated in a chain of events unrelated to the location. Facts that say that both BP and Transunion are likely no
  10. Americans spend about 9% of their income on energy and 13% on food. Both of these are not included in the "core" inflation figures posted by the government, but they will inevitably be paid for out of pocket long before any "stimulative" spending on cars, TV's, houses, or restaurants. If you want to kill a recovery or insure a recession, just raise gas prices dramatically. The price of everything that is transported will go up, and food prices are largely dependent on energy pricing. $$120 bbl X 2 mo. = a serious economic downturn. $125+ bbl X 3+ mo. double dip and a worldwide economic col
  11. I couldn't agree more, NG. The old guard apparently still doesn't quite get it. They keep running the same tired old hag through the auction barn and wonder why they can't get a decent bid. They have a little less than 2 years to prove themselves or face an angry electorate.
  12. Obama vs. Gingrich would lead to a second term for Obama Unfortunately, I would probably indirectly aid Obama, because I would vote for a third party libertarian candidate long before I would vote for Newt. I actually remember 1994. That's kinda like baby Doc's recent return to Haiti. He's still the same charlatan, the only thing is that nobody remembers. On September 30, 2005, the last day of the last FY Budget authored by the 103rd congress, the total national debt was $7.932 Trillion. On September 28, 2007, the last day of the last FY budget authored by the 104th Congres
  13. I would hope for Tom Coburn or Paul Ryan, but I imagine it will be Romney or some other recycled relic of the past.
  14. Simple solution: do not adopt any social apps on FB. The collection of information and the ability to spam your FB Home page has been their purpose all along. All that has changed, and it's pretty big, I admit, is that they can now get your address phone number. Just block all FB apps in the security section, or never give in to the urge to see who's looking for you, what your stripper name is, or play Farmville.
  15. I don't think that it's ever right to steal from a mortgage company. It's one thing to get in trouble and go into foreclosure, it's another entirely to buy 2 cars and intentionally stick somebody else with the bills, which is theft by conversion in my book.
  16. In certain cultures within the United States, a stint in prison, regardless of it's reality, is a badge of honor. Shooting a rival gang member is grounds for promotion, while snitching will get you killed. Membership in a gang or criminal group is valued over a job or family. Baby mamas and daddys that have little or nothing to do with their offspring whom are for the most part raised by relatives or the state are more common than two parent households, and unemployment reaches 40%. There is a greater chance of getting shot than of getting into an automobile accident, and a greater chan
  17. Stricter laws are needed? Are they not breaking the law now? Prosecute the little twerps. It isn't a system problem, it's a social problem. Bill Cosby has an honest and very convincing point of view on the subject.
  18. I hope that your mother gets well soon. We have always had good experiences at Paulding Hospital, and I can't wait until they give that wonderful staff a new modern facility to work in.
  19. I love it! She went straight to FB. Thanks for posting.
  20. Good Luck Mike! I'm sure you will do quite well in whatever endeavor you choose. I'm sure you'll be busy, but don't be a stranger. We all enjoy your posts.
  21. ...and we the taxpayers make up the difference. Ethanol is not even environmentally neutral when you figure in the land use. It is actually more harmful to the environment than gasoline. Ethanol (E-85) also reduces fuel mileage by 26.5% (edmonds). In 2007 Purdue University attributed a $130 per year per household increase in food costs directly to the ethanol mandate. I am certain it has risen since then. All of this doesn't even mention the humanitarian consideration of converting massive amounts of food to fuel with nearly a billion people at risk for hunger and malnutrition worldwide
  22. So here we go on a big day for economic data. Hold on to your hats. First of all, we have heard about the producer price index and the manufacturing report. Both show about 17 months of pent up wholesale inflation that can not be passed on to the consumer because of soft demand. The obvious result will be that when demand picks up, we will be playing catch-up with this inflationary trend. Also on current and potential future inflation, there are no surprises in either the core or headline Consumer Price index. Rising fuel costs (8.5%) are chiefly behind the recent spike, and this is
  23. I was sorry to see it go, but it had just become another badge on a chevy. The 55 to 59 Star Chief Convertible was another head turner. Even though I've always been a Ford guy, you have to respect the designers and engineers at Pontiac. They turned out some great Detroit iron.
